Getting the Flame skill tree completed first is my advice. This is how I leveled. I used to be a Master Bio-Engineer/Pistoleer/CH. Not a very good combat combo. What I did was drop the BE and Pistoleer skills first and kept my CH 4/4/0/0. I used the pets to tank for me while I raised my Flame Thrower skill tree. Once I got to Flame 4, I was able to get the rest of the profession easily. Little by little I dropped my CHskills until I could get plenty of unarmed experience. Having a pet tank for you really helps. Try getting a combat droid to tank for you while you level. Helps alot since Commandos don't have alot of defense anyway.

Well, I don't remember but I did and do use a non-krayt FT. I have two right now which do their job. Their not as good as a krayt but I'm happy with them.
First FT:
686-1176 dmg/ 5.2 speed
Second FT:
480-885 dmg/ 3.4 speed
Not great weapons but their doing their job for me.

i have 2 non krayt one that i'm using to grind. a 5.0 speed 550-1100 sliced for damage, and a 4.6 450-880 sliced for speed. I use the damage sliced one on Mobs I think I can one hit kill with it, and the speed sliced ones it might take more than one.
