Unless there remains no answer on this issue to StarNick's inquiries, let's give Helios the benefit of the doubt. He's done some nice things so far for us, and unlike so many before him, has shown some follow through on the promise to lend us a hand.

Maybe, just maybe...thats the root of the problem with our damage specials and why folks are thinking the AoE also gets enhanced? Maybe, a bug is in the code where they're not properly modifying the damages and rather, the AoE secondary damage is dictating what the primary damage should be in order for the AoE damage to be true.
So if with overkill, it must be 500 AoE damage...then the special would have to produce 1500 damage, even if at the advanced level it should produce twice that but still have 500 AoE damage?
Or simply, the specials are so low-damage that we're not seeing the whole picture at the moment.
One thing's for certain, things are still screwy as both deadbang and focus fire don't do what they're suppoused to do with the AoE (shortening range, narrowing cone respectively) in the first place...

Ironically, those are the three of my favorite developers too...
Whoops. Didn't mean to slight anyone else that is colaborating on this, but Helios has certianly been the most visible developer pushing this forward. Hopefully the three of them (sorry Keldarin and Jfreeman) had more in mind for us than 2 clones of overchargeshot and a 15 second criticalshot.

We tested & gave feedback. We were told that the specials would get some tweaks in the next patch 11 days ago on TC2...theres most likely more to come, it's just now out yet...much to our dismay.
But for a note the attack that do more damage to driods and building i can see a diffence, but with only by 300 damage to level 53 siver bars. but a AOE is ****ing off the hook. I'm commando/pistols 2-0-0-0 CM and the rest in FS and i was fighting 2 level 82 imps. their was some cloes calls but once i killed the first one the secend guy was a little below half health. the DOTs work better and even if it only 64% it is still a huge help.
EDIT: and sorry about what i said about the crafter, i didn't know he sopport commando with weapions on that sever. all i saw was sumggler and i know from the past their a liltle jaded.
