makes me wish i had never dropped commando.

i got sick of commando only being good for PvE support so i dropped it. right before i did, i did a little PvP. i only won one 1 on 1 fight, but i was very useful in group fights. i would just let the melee def stackers in my group lock up the FOTMers of the rebel group and then throw out a flame cone and run like hell. once i got far enough back, i would pop some rockets and overcharge shot 2's from my FT up thier hind ends until the snipers got me. i always took out 3 or 4 people before i died. sadly though i dropped it as PvP wasnt that much fun for me and i wanted a template that would insure more independance in PvE.

/salute to all the master commandos out there

if you are jedi and you complain, i have one question for you. how many remember permadeth, kenetic damage lightsabers, and lightsaber TEFs?

You know.. its funny. If I go into PvP with my Master Commando tag up, people tend not to target me as much.
I can practically run around only having to worry about AOE attacks. Its a stealth perk to being commando. Everyone assumes you suck. Exploit that.

I'm curious how you got in close enough for the DBs. I can't seem to get in close enough as a commando without getting jumped by some melee FOTM guys, so I stick with my rifleman range DB to rack up my kill count.

I'm getting my first PvP experiences as Commando, and as said Commando in group rules....you can also really make it better with good weapons

(as of yesterday I have a 2.5s FT).

I lost the WS who was doing my heavies too two days ago (aghk, he made all consumables with over 70 accuracy), so I am a bit gimped right now...but if you're in group, and your defense stacking melee buds can get someone flopping on his back, they're dead. (putting maximum healthwounds on someone is fun too)

the HPBC seems to be the highest DPS heavy...but I have all to cover all ranges I have all (<16m = FT, 16m = ASL, 32m HLC, 48m= HPBC, 48-65m= RL)

Personally I'm grinding some carbine boxes to use when I go solo (which still is a lot), as carbines seem to be fit will to dizzy/kd/lunge while out of melee range...

This is very challenging to PvP with, but I really like it

Another thing to remember too...don't just get a WS in your pocket...get yourself a smuggler too. The consumables can be sliced. Not a big deal for pve....but a good spd or damage slice on a rocket or hpc really make a difference. Oh, and don't forget about pu's for the grenades.

I never stopped moving around, I hit the snipers then moved up closer (for the db), in the particular battle the Imperials were gettin' torn up, I only ever had to back track over gained ground once.

I straight up admitted to the kills that were assists. (the 2 snipers I mentioned were mine and mine alone)

After I made this post I've seen a proliferation of Commando weapons popping up on Naritus.

Our profession has value, it's just not a FOTM profession that allows you to use 3 moves on everything. It's not a lazy mans/womens profession.

I enjoy it, and I won't drop it for anything but Jedi. The only other profession I've found that requires as much thought and planning (no bum rushing and spamming kd/dizzy)is maybe the BE, I haven't tried that yet(read tons about it on the BE forum though)but as soon as I get my alt slot Its (Bio Engineer)mine.

I honestly don't see what the problem is, so you can't go 1 on 1, I don't believe that every profession and their uncle should be able to

I'm just curious, but would you object to the notion that a profession that takes 169 skillpoints, all of which are combat skills, would be good in a one on one scenario and support role?

Some of the harsher replies witnessed are because of a couple things:

  • Rifleman can fill said support role better, for less than half the required skillpoints. They can hitalmost as hardon single targets (per shot, no less)more accurately and more often than we can from just as far off as we can. Except they can move while they do this without pausing for the firing animationtoo. They also have the perk of not having to replace their gun after 30 shots.

  • Aside from DPS support, we're useless in a PvP scenario.

  • The flame DoT, in the situations where it is actually useful in PvP, can easily be cured by a doctor.

  • We can't do anything but support roles at this point. These roles are already filled better by other classes that cost less skillpoints.

I'm glad you enjoying the profession and that you've found a positive outlet in regards to what a commando can do, but please try to keep things in perspective here. Until the combat revamp there is no reason whatesoever to pick up commando, save the LP, the cool graphics on explosions, or sentimental value.

I've never once said the profession worked just fine. I never once said it wasn't broken or didn't have problems.

I just want people to stop whining that you can NOT do anything because you can't win a 1 vs. 1 fight. The fact is you can win in PvP, it's just not the kind that most people think is "cool" or "leet", whatever it is you think is cool to say.

On my FOTM template, I was nearly unstoppable in PvP, as were any other stackers. Fact is that required NO SKILL WHAT SO EVER TO PVP WITH. All that boiled down to was whomever hit the kd/dizzy macro first, 99% of the time, that's who won the fight.

At least with Commando, I have to think some. I know not everyone wants to think (think period, I'm so leet I hit my kd/dizzy combobefore you har d har har)of alternate ways of fighting. Everyone wants to be uber and leet. I just don't see that as being a Commando, we shouldn't take a backseat to the other classes like we do now obviously.

Commando has it's strengths, use what they have.

The negative posters have been right, but they've been so blinded by their own tears that it's gotten kinda silly.

I'm sorry though, but just because you can or can't 1 vs. 1 pvp should NOT define you. That's just a small minded way of thinking personally.

PvP shouldn't define you at all anyway. Especially considering the average MMORPG has a very small (20%) pvp base. (fact)

I'm done, not enough positive posts here, to much crying.

Don't let us run you off! I like hearing other people's viewpoints and how they use Commando effectively. Just yesterday, I helped a couple friends of mine take down some Tuskan Observers and an Executioner by using my rocket launchers. I was at the best range and the weapons had fairly decent accuracy (and my friends kept him intimidated)so I only missed twice out of ~60 shots. I didn't do nearly as much dps as them, but I did manage to get about 100k damage output with those rockets over a couple minutes. Unfortunately, I had to stop using them because I don't have much money left to buy some more and wanted to save my others, lol.

I don't know the status of heavy weapons on other servers, but so far it has been my experience on Naritus that they're rare, but not hard to find. It was harder to find a flamethrower with less than 5 speed unsliced actually.

troll carries a large assortment of less than 5 speed unsliced FTs, i've had little trouble finding those at all.. i HAVE, however, had ALOT of trouble finding consumables... so, i was wondering, where was it that you found the HPBCs you used to kill those 2 snipers withthree hits, because the HPBCs i've seen (which isn't many) don't seem like they could do that much damage, accounting in armour and PvP damage reduction and all...

I guess its all been said allready but anyway...

I have had a similar experience when a bunch of NPC imps were spawned on Coronet on the Chimera server and a big battle broke out. I ran out a bit away from the main combat area and started launching my heavies big time (especialy rocket launchers which i always carry a couple of crates of). I only killed one player before they (other players)noticed me and took me out but in that time I had donethe most damage to the two ATST's and cleared a large swathe through the NPC's to let the other reb players around clean up.

Now I know thats mostly pve not pvp but its a similar occurence a bigbattle and theMC laying it down thick.

The only reason I rarely pvp is not because Commandos and Smugglers suck (my classes) its because combat in SWG is really boring pvp or pve its completely utterly boring. It doesnt help that theres no reward for killing another player or penalty for dieing to one but meh im going off on a tangent...

I think Commando is one of the most fun of all the combat based proffesions (and bear in mind I hate the combat, just to belabour the point) and a lot more colourfull and versitile than most people realise.
