Okay - real n00b question...but I am a n00b, so I suppose it's forgivable!
How do I know if I am certified for a particular weapon?
Say (for example) I look on the bazaar, and I see 'Chewie's fabulous limb-chopper'. It looks kind of like a sword. So, can I safely assume I can use it, as I have sword certification?
Sounds pretty unreliable...maybe it's really a dagger. Hard to tell.
You see my point? Is there a reliable way to tell if I can use it?
Thanks for any input,
DF

If you are looking at it on the bazaar, on the left side where it lists the stats of the weapon. It has a line that says "Certified" and it will say yes or no. If it says yes than you can use it.
But if its on a player vendor it can say "certified: no" even if you are certified. So the more reliable way, is weapons named other then the default name will say "variation of : xxxx" check your skill sheet, under certs, and see if you are certed for the real name. A few certs are named differnt then thier real name tho. Such as C-22 gernades (or something like that) are certed as light fragmentation gernades. And quite a few weapons have differnt models. (laser carbine/laser rifle/DH17/DH17 Snub nose)
Also there are certs that don't work at all, I belive most have been fixed, but there are still a few, King Tusken rifle (a tusken rifle) does not work with its cert, and wookies C-22 gernade cert has never worked since release (all other races C-22 cert does work)

Very confusing!
I was looking on a bazaar terminal, and saw the certified flag, but thought it must be for something else, as even CDEF pistol said 'no'!
So there's really no totally reliable way to know?

Experience and verification with your skills listing are the only reliable methods. As for some of the special weapons (geo-pistol, dxr-6b rifle, etc) they will say at the bottom of the weapon what skill you need to have to be able to use it 'effectively'.

Are there some weapons that don't need any Cert ?
To my knowledge all weapons need certs, but even when you first start your certed for about 10-15 (crappy) weapons.

There are still a few pre-nerf republic blasters floating around (I have a few still), those didn't used to require a cert and still do not for the ones crafted before the cert went into place(I have one on my dancer alt for any pesky nuna's that get in my way). And any of the base artisan made weapons do not require you to have specific skills (dagger, survival knife, cdef weapons), as in you don't even need to have novice brawler or marksman to use them; but of course you have no specials or modifiers either, but they'll still list as a certification.
The only true weapon that I know of that doesn't require a certification skill entry or a specific combat skill tree box to use are the pre-nerfed republic blasters.

Wow. That sounds to me like something that needs work. I can believe that this ambiguity is by design.
Well, thanks for the info folks - I'm off to buy a weapon that I may or may not be able to use!

They just change stuff on the fly and don't put thru the necessary changes to the cert listing db. Republic blasters weren't an issue until people with pistols 3/4 started pwning others with it's light armor piercing and damage type. Even then it wasn't a big deal to me, the range modifier on even a good one sucks. 1 out of 5 shots hitting, etc....But they thought it was, so now you have to be a pistoleer for any of the new ones.
There really isn't that much that's ambigious about the system considering the amount of shuffling and nerfing that has gone on, scythes, geonosian pistols, dxr-6b rifles, and like maybe 1 or 2 others actually require you to look at the weapon itself to see what is needed to weild it. Rest will show up as a certification in your skills listing. If it means they just list the cert on the gun and give us all new toys faster I'm all for it.

Hmm I should try and find one of the pre-nerf ones then. My CDEFs just don't work well enough for me to live through anything.

Now that the download has finally completed....
Has anyone compiled a list of the certifications for each weapon?
I can understand why it isn't in the skill box anymore, but customers no longer know what weapons they can use.

This was the exact reason i came to the WS forums. With all the weapons added and the large amount of combat lvl not skill lvl weapons i have no clue what i can and cant use anymore.

I know. The same, or close to it, question is being asked on most forums.
