Removing unarmed andadding Exploration or Survival makes good sense from a real world perspective. If brawler unarmed were to remain then some moves should be added for Commandos, or at least increase the unarmed tougness mod in the commando tree.

Well I don't like it haveing to have unarmed, but I am certainly glad we don't have the requirements listed in the manual: Master Marksman, Master Brawler, Engineer;

But imo I don't see why we have unarmed, unless the devs thought we needed a skill points sink, and if thats the case, I would say give us something like exploration 4 like many people said, its easily obtainable in an hour, just a hunt on endor.

1. I don't mind if its takes an effort to get to, I just don't think unarmed 4 should be a requirement.

2. Don't take the cheap way out and change it for another requirement . . . If you want to go up Exploration 4 with your points, ok, do it. But if you do not, that should not be required. Besides, terain negotiation should be in the commando profession, you should not have to WASTE your skills in a different profession if yours should already have it.

I certainly wouldn't mind removing the Unarmed requirement, though I seriously doubt the Devs will consider that option.

Changing the Unarmed requirement to something else is not an option. Imagine if it were changed from Unarmed to Exploration. What would happen to the current Master Commando / Teras Kasi Masters? They don't have the points to spend on Exploration and they can't give up Unarmed 4.

Every commando I've seen in a movie had a combat knife in his boot, so I would love to have one too. Alas knives have clearly been established as falling under 1-Handed Sword in this game, not Unarmed.

Unarmed specials would be nice. I note we are the only advanced combat class that lacks a knockdown attack (maybe Riflemen too, I'd have to check).

We almost had a justification for the Unarmed requirement in the form of Melee damage mitigation, but those changes to the combat system have been put off for now.

In all honesty, this isn't a big issue for me. Other professions have prerequisites that make no sense. Bounty Hunters hunt people, yet they must learn Trapping 4 when traps don't work on people. Hunting 4 sounds like a skill Bounty Hunters should have, but once again Hunting has no affect on people. Try as I may, I am unable to harvest jack from Opo Epopnomei.

yeah you have a point with the unarmed being too hard to remove.. although in programming, theres no impossibilities, just unwillingness.

so if we keep the unarmed.. what then? we cant get damage specials or the tka will be screaming bloody murder. we cant get better specials than them... for the same reason.

i can see the unarmed commando specials now...

sarlacc finger ... our special taunt *flick* _Il_

interrogation slap .. a fluid, graceful, left to right slap on the incapacitated player/npc. causes them to reveal one set of coordinates stored in their datapad. spammable. each slap increases commando's mind bar regeneration rate.

bazooka joe : commando pops a stick of gum in mouth, chews loudly, kicks arse.

and other interesting things...

Currently the Unarmed IV makes little sense. I can hardly get why it's there, exept as a skill point sink, which is good, cause it has to be there as balance.

I'd never switch to hand-to-hand combat when I can use high powered weapons instead. So I don't think unarmed would do us any good, exept if they gave us a Knockdown, but that would make us too good.

Exploration IV would make sense, since Commandos need to survive out in the fields. On the other hand we have a skill branch called Field tactics, which doesn't give us a **edit** thing besided grenades.

Aside from those two mentioned I don't know. Engieering IV don't make sense unless we get to craft our own weapons.

Something has to be there, and whatever that is has to give us some benefits.

I think the amount of skill points we have to invest to become a commando is appropriate for the power of the profession.

With the flame specials being close range I don't think we need any more close range moves. I want some long range specials with the LP, and some medium range chemicalburn specials with the HAR.

The unarmed 4 requirement should make us a lot tougher against melee combat, irrespective of what weapon we are using.

A commando by it's very definition is an elite solider who is very versatile, trained to not only be deadly with guns but also be deadly when unarmed. That is why the commando requires the unarmed tree at the moment however they haven't followed it through. If you remove the fact that a commando is supposed to be deadly also in unarmed combat you end up with someone who is a basic marine or solider. (and even then a solider is trained in unarmed combat)

The commando's originally were started by the British during the first world war and they were considered to be 'thugs' by the rest of the military forces because they were trained in dirty fighting and the fact they were trained to use a specially designed combat knife for close combat. The fact is that this singular trait is why many commando insignia's have the dagger on them. Plus the fact is that not only are knifes more likely to kill someone but they save ammo and are silent.

Look up the origins of the commando for yourself, aside from it being interesting you'll see just why unarmed combat is integeral to what a commando is.

Exactly Tal-N. That is why I think we should get some type of melee move knockdown, either with the heavyweapon we are holding(LP,Flamethrower,HAR), or maybe a knife of some sort. Either one would be our "Dirty Fighting" technique in and of itself.

Doesn't even need to be a knockdown, something which delays the enemies attack by 7 seconds and causing temporary blinding would be enough. Usually smacking someone in the face with the butt of your rifle is enough to daze them for a few moments and i'd call that a dirty fighting trick

I like exploration 4. Exploration 3 alone is a must, and almost everyone gets it. So I think it'd make sense to have that be a prerequisite.
