Thread: Just an Idea for a different Profession more like a Commando
Grey Ghost:
Nice idea, but why Pistol specials?
As for the defense Modifers:
I'd like to reduce it to +2 melee and ranged defense per tier and keep the +10 on master. would that be more balanced?
As for the hefty combat xp costs:
I had to decide wether to introduce a new set of xp (SAW xp) or to have it combat xp. Given the immense crowd control ability of the saw tree i decided to make it a combat xp tree, so that it is harder to advance in it. The other possibility would be to introduce Infiltration xp.. But how to give infiltration xp....
I simply thought making it combat xp as well would balance it out against the SAW tree and therefore slow down the advancement, so that the skills are only attained after you really earned them.
As for Damage:
I envisioned it to have average damage output, below rifle, about slightly below carbine and a bit higher than Pistol on the TAC.
I wanted to have moderate Frepower on the SAW (hence the total lack of high power moves besides the one wich i envisioned to have a huge delay to make up for it). The SAW was mainly meant for Crowd control and not be the prime source of Damage. The SAW should also suffer on medium range and be adequate on close and Long range (as like the Flamethrower mods)
Let the input flow. I greatly appreciate the input you gave me so far. mayn thanx,
Dogg
in order to get to master spec op, you require 880,000 combat experience or roughly 8,800,000 weapons experience to get there.
Now we can earn 1,225,000 of the experience through our carbine line, so that only leaves us with having to grind out an additional 7,575,000 more points of experience with our weapons....think it's a bit much don't you?
Bal-renco:
Thanx for the feedback. I thought, given the possibilities of the profession, it should be hard to master, but yu are right, it may be too much.
Should i only reduce the combat xp amount on the SAW line, or also on the infiltration line?
How does that sound:
Infiltration
- 40.000 (combat xp)
- 60.000
- 80.000
- 110.000
SAW
- 60.000
- 85.000
- 120.000
- 150.000
Please keep the feedback coming. You really help me much. It is hard to find weak spots in balancing issues in such a thing.
Killduce:
Also for you: Thanx for the feedback =)
But i do not understand why you think Exploration 4 and Hunting 4 would be more applicable than Trapping 4 and Survival 4.
A special Forces troper has to learn extensive Survival skills. As part pf those skills, he learns how to craft traps and encampments to survive in the wilderness. In my opinion 0404 is more fiting than 4040. Anyone else disagree/agree with me?
Thanx,
Dogg
This sounds more like the profession I wanted when I first started...I wanted to do a SpecOps kind of character, and after playing Rebellion and seeing the cool black armored Imperial Commandos, I thought that's what this class was aimed at...
Obviously I was wrong.
The class you've put together more closely matches my original character idea. Good work.
TT
Wannabe Master Commando, Master Smuggler who is doing Pistoleer until Commando is fixed.
P.S. Bit heavy on the Combat XP... put in the weapon specific XP, and make sure all the cool stuff is closer to the top so we don't get all the one-discipline lusers (aka the flamethrower bandwagon).
Defense mods: yes, I think the +5 on master would be perfect. This is supposed to be a really **edit** good combat class, and it should have the proper defense mods to back this up.
Combat XP: That's still a TON of combat xp to get to complete any of those skills. Maybe the infiltration xpcan be given like scouting xp with mask scent. ie, you walk by an enemy, undetected, and the game gives you the xp for it depending on the level of the enemy. or if you successfully /blend and drop aggro. Things like that should constitute infiltration xp, I think.
Of course, this is just my opinion![]()
Ok, on infiltration, give novice a small modifier, like the scout class. They get a small modifier for camoflauge right away, and you have a small chance of success from the start. Because right now, the combat xp is just too high. That much combat xp is currently unheard of, and I think it should stay that way. Either that, or you'll have to lower the combat xp costs. I realize that this is a problem with allowing people to get the higher skillsa littletoo fast, but it's reallyjust toohigh at the current level of design.
For the SAW, I really don't think that making a unique kind of xp and giving a modifier at novicewould take the prime weapon role away from the TAC. The TAC is fast, has good damage, and some really nice specials. The SAWshould bea little faster thanthe TAC,but has weaker specials, and not as high of normaldamage, as it's intended to be a supression and squad support weapon. As a result, the TAC can still be used as a primary weapon, but I really think that the primary weaponshould be decided by the player's style of gameplay, rather than its modifiers.
PS Please don't call me Palpatine...I'll have to break your legs![]()
dang it all man thats wat i went commando for is the saposed hw versitality thing but ensted we got slaped with melee attacks and costly weps

Sh** i am sorry, man! Bad, bad typo. Need... more.... coffee!
I will have to think about the Infiltration Line and Novice a bit more. We would need a special at Novice level (currently not available). But i have no clue what to put there.... As ever, feedback is more than only welcome.
If i switch Infiltration to an own xp set, i could keep SAW at it's original level...
Still have to ponder over it. personally, i would have no problem with the combat xp. Would me take probably a week to master that profession, but you are right, in that i have to think about casual Players as well...
Anyone else has some more thoughts on it?
