Thread: Commando: The most elite profession in SWG

Lately this forum has been full of posts about "I can't level with the launcher pistol", "all heavy weapons do mass aggro", "I get kicked out of groups because of AOE weapons." Still more posts on how broken the profession is, master weapon not working, not living up to our 5 in damage.A while ago, I read a post by one of the old timer commandos saying "I sure feel bad for any noob commandos trying to level up, it's gonna be impossible."
Yet every time I log into my character on Starsider, I'm constantly reminded of a story my Marine friend once told me. Often times in basic training he was not given all the equipment needed to do his job. When he brought this up to his superiors, he was told "adapt and overcome Marine!" No phrase could better describe SWG Commandos. We are constantly ignored with regards to fixes and left to find our own ways tobe successful. Spend a little time with the Vode Inya guild on Starsider and you'll see that Commandos have found ways to overcome every setback, and become an amazingly strong profession. I've seen all commando hunting parties, using all (or mostly all) heavy weapons with no fear of aggro. We pull withheavy weapons, we apply states with heavy weapons, and we do our damage with heavy weaopns. I've been in groups that stand within 20m of the lair and fearlesslyblast away with launcher pistols, Rocket launchers, flamethrowers, and HPBCs. I remember hunting with non-commando groups and being told "If the puller aggros a bunch of creatures, just focus on the origional target and let the rest incap him, then they'll leave us alone." I enjoyed helping out when afellow commandoaggroed more than he could handle, I'd attack one of the full health creatures and pull it onto myself. Several other group members would do the same, all taking one or 2 of the creature upon themselves. We'd useroots, snares, and KDs to slow down their attacks long enough tohelp eachother out. When the explosions ceaced, and the smoke cleared, a group of damaged, but conscious commandos stood proud, surrounded by corpses. I believe no profession uderstands their inner workings like we do. Nobody has been able to overcome broken features like we have. We are not the best profession in the game, we are the best players.
So to all the commandos I say, learn your profession, learn how to overcome the setbacks, learn to optimize what you have, and learn to be among the best players in the game. Wear your commando tags with pride, and do not fear being kicked from groups. Remember that if a group won't let you in, it's because they don't undrstand how useful you really are.
My new Commando motto: Adapt and overcome!
Ahh good story, now back to reality.
A marine would be devoid of everything except one thing and be told to adapt and overcome, and thats his ability to fight. If a marine cant fight he isnt a marine, hes a target. SWG commandos cannot fight, our weapons are broke, our draw is broke, our everything is broken. Buttering it up with run and gun philosophy and hurah marinecore ethics dont fix things. An optomistic prison bizch is still a prison bizch, if you get what I mean.
and I know this may offend a marine or two, but it reminds me of a joke. How is a marine like a bannana? They hit beaches in bunches turn yellow then die. SEMPER FI!

Aaah spoken like a person that doesn't know what the heck they are talking about!
I went through Boot with a weapon that rattled because the fit between the upper and lower receiver was bad but I still got Expert. Why because you OVERCOME and ADAPT. When I got to the fleet as an INFANTRY MARINE the M249 SAW (squad automatic weapon) had to be lubed up with a ton of CLP just to fire so I learned to make sure I had a large supply on hand at all times. ADAPTED! When you lost your gear you went out in town and bought some more to replace it. OVERCAME! When in Jungle Survival school I learned that a green scratch pad really gets the rust off the SAW since it rusts so badly and yes I know you are not supposed to do that
. ADAPTED! The Marines have done so much with so little for so long that now they can do anything with nothing. Do I think we are getting a raw deal as a Profession yes I do but the person that submitted this post has a point we should overcome and adapt. Look at Mos Syn on Flurry they use tatics and put houses around there rebel bases with only one entrance to cover with turrets and players. Boy did the Imps moan and groan about that "Exploit". I say they OVERCAME and ADAPTED. What makes all elite forces great and memorable is the ability to OVERCOME adversity and to ADAPT to any given situation. I like the motto it reminds me of the SAS "Who Dares Wins" or the Marines "Semper Fidelis" (always faithful). And something tells me that if there was a different generation playing this game there would be more than 1 or 2 Marines upset with your comment just look at the IWO JIMA memorial.

While I agree with what you said.
I and many others have adapted very much.
I use to be only be a Master Comamndo Pre CU, yet I did many things, and did stuff that many probably couldn't do in my position. It took practice, skill, and devotion.
That's not the case now.
We are actually broken. And unless you Sploiting AoEs for Mass Roots, which I'm sure will help keep AoEs nerfed, actually AoEs is just bad in general.
And when they do nothing there isn't much you can do. I'm not stupid. I was one of the few who actually knew when a Grenade could be useful, aand no not Combat XP Grinding. I actually used my 34 Ammo Rocket Launchers Pre CU quite often. I actually used them as I went and killed every Rebel NPC at a Base by myself without Buffs and garbage. I even used my RL to kill NPCs on missions.
Commando was much more useful, and worked before.
Now it doesn't.
There is nothing to adapt or overcome. This is non sense since it seems using Weapons with Broken AoEs as a no AoE Weapon is kind of an exploit, and Rooting everything with oversized AoEs that do no Damage, just to Root is lame. So besides some effects and such not really much you can do unless you only PvP these days, cause in PvE by yourself is suicide and will tick off groups your with any way.
People have the right to complain that Commando is broke. People especially have the right to do so when then can't even Level on their own. Don't think yourself better just because you Mastered and have held Commando before they have.
I see little honor in being a Commando, except for being loyal enough to stick with a broken Profession and others who do the same. Though I expect the loyalty to push us to make Commando a Respectable Working Profession. If you give up on that you are giving up on many others dream of being a Real Commando. A Real Commando is someone not only loyal to their Profession, but will be a true threat because of their ability to take things beyond. I suppose if we were made on par with every other Combat Profession we'd probably all be a lot better then them especially!

You call placing non destroyable houses "Adapting" rather then "exploiting". So if I was to clone camp you after I beat you in a duel, that wouldnt be griefing, that would be me adapting and overcoming? And every military branch has the hardships and crap. But this reminds meof a joke.
three generals and an admiral are sitting around a base trying to decide what the base will be dedicated to, AIR, LAND, OR SEA power. The group decides that whoever has the bravest soldiers in the entire military will earn the right to dedicate the base to his particular branch. The army general stands up "Gentlemen, I know my infantry are the bravest, let me demonstrate" He motions for a private to come over "Private, stick this granade in your mouth and pull the pin" the private hesitates but does as the general says, blowing his own head off. The general smiles and says "Army wins!"
The navy admiral looks at the general "not so fast general!" he says, he motions a seaman over "Son, I want you to swim out to that battle cruiser and sink it to the bottom of the sea." the seaman hesitates a moment, then reluctantly does as the admiral says. A few moments later the cruser lies at the bottom of the ocean. The admiral smirks "That seaman just lost his family all binifits for an act of treason, he knew it, and he did it anyway, thats the bravest soldier the military has to offer".
The marine core general snorts "Thats pathetic, Gunny get your self over here!" the general barked. Soon the gunnery sargent marched up "YES SIR!". The general barked out "get as many granades as you can and strap them to your body, go stand in formation with your platoon and pull every pin!" the sargent shouted "YES SIR!" and did as ordered. Running back to his formation and detonating every granade killing the entire platoon. "You see, not a single man flinched! They looked death strait in the eye and remained at attention! SEMPER FI! Marines are the bravest! THIS BASE IS OURS!'
The entire time the air force general is laughing his head off. They all look at him "You dont mean to tell me the CHAIR force thinks they are the bravest?" The marine core general barked. The USAF general smirked "You damn right I do, watch this" he looked at the airman next to him "Airman, could you get me a cup of coffee from the mess hall?" the airman looked over his sholder and snorted "get your own damn coffee sir". The general smirked "you see, anyone with enough balls to tell a general to get his own coffee is the bravest man I have ever seen."
This is the same air force that there top jag booted low level enlisted out of the service busted them down took there pay, fined them, and when HE gets caught doing it, gets demoted and told to retire with full pay ret pay and bennies.

So? Thats one guy and he was a douche. You mean to tell me no other branch has saved its golden boys and let them out the easy way? I would call you a liar if you said that. In any branch an O before your number means your going to get off easy, its just the aristocracy of the military. Same old game of peons and princes weather you are a seaman, an airman, or a private. Wanna hear another story of officer over enlisted justice? My old squadron had a lot of DUI problems, enlisted folks were getting the book thrown at them, getting article 15's and reduction in rank with a few discharges. A Captain gets a DUI on a saturday night and his punishment? Ride a bike to work for two weeks. He lived on base also so it wasnt that big a deal.
