Thread: UNLOCK NEW CLASS SOLDIER

My 2 Cr.'s worth.

I'm rather split on the idea.. Overall I think I come down on the nay-sayers side.

The good

  • More classes, content and stuff we (the players in general have to play with) the better

  • A counter to the Jedi 'infestation' we're currently seeing

  • New goals for players to work towards

The bad

  • The concept of a 'super class' is generally a very bad thing for a MMOG in my oppinion. Jedi's illustarte this very well. Having one (or more classes) that are clearly stronger than the alternatives will result in people migrating to that class (or those classes if theres more then one 'super class') Just like people are currently asking what kind of game this will be when everyones a Jedi, It would'nt really be much better if the question was what the game will be like when everyone is either Jedi or Mandalorian Soldier. We already got 10+ combat classes in the game. Making these obsolete is not the answer to the jedi problem. Classes needs to be in some kind of balance with one another.

  • It does'nt fit to well with the timeline and lore of the SWG universe (as i understand it). Thats important to some, others are indiffrent.

  • Creating a full, new class with lots of extras needed would be extremly time consuming. Even if the dev's were to ebark on such a project, they would'nt be realistically able to start working on it untill somewhere around summer next year. Theres PLENTY that needs fixing, the dev's imho have a VERY bad habbit of starting new projects without finishing the ones they've already started.

In my oppinion, what needs to be done is that Jedi needs to be brought down on par with everyone else in power. Clases need balancing and so on. Adding more super classes to the game would only make it worse imho.. even if the idea as such sounds like it could be fun in a lot of ways.

About the self crafted weapons and equipment. Again, bad idea imho. Weapons Smiths, Armor Smiths and so on need stuff to do and people to sell their goods to for thier classes to remain viable. The dev's have already caused a huge potential problem with this when it comes to Jedi (they make thier own weapons.. WS's are usless, Don't wear armor, Armorsmiths out of buisness as the Jedi population rise, Wear robes, thus not tailor made clothes).

Fun idea, but I don't belive it would work well in practice.

I think this would be a great idea.

It has merit.

No one would be forced to grind it out.

But if you want to unlock it. It should be dificult and *listen devs* rewarding.

Not eveyone that plays wants to weild a light saber and like to shoot and blow stuff up more.

I do like the non-faction idea. Mercs would be nice.

Just my thoughts.

i'm not going to agree with either side but i do believe that the jedi need to be put in check. granted the "grinded" the way the dev's had wanted but i do believe that the dev's over looked the determination of jedi craving fanatic's,

i admit i masterd a few profession's to try to get my jedi but mastering a profesion really isnt time consuming when you have a huge guild to help you with it.

i agree, i think there should be a mandolorian "unlockable" profession. maybe not mando, but something better than a regular profession. especially with the hybrids, which ive noticed are some of the weakest prof's...

This is one of the better ideas i've seen resently. I like the whole Mandolarian Soldier, but if this Elite Profession where to come into play the devs would have to make Mandolarian Armor more accsesable.

For example after completing the quests to unlock the Mandolarian Profession they should begranted the optionto create a new Mandolorain character. When thecharacter is made he/she will besent a waypoint to a NPC who would give them a quest to obtain some Mandolarian Armor, similar to the scythe quest, but much harder.

After obtaining the schematic or simply the armor the new Mandolarian should be ready to progress in the Profession and eventualy be and Elite Soldier.

The Mandolarian tree should be similar to the Jedi tree. The soldier should be able to choose if they want to progress in Demolitions, Bounty Hunting, Possibly an andvanced Squad Leader, Several ADVANCED Weapon

what would a commando think if you were to do a quest to unlock a mandalore type soldier class?

nuetral so neither side was too strong also "soldier" would be opposed to reb/imp this soldier would be the gcw wild card

the only combat equal would be jedi knight to balance the JEDI vs NON-JEDI struggle

the mercenary "soldier" could do missions on jedi of any faction reb or imp

with improved skills in combat and a defense line consisting of jet-pack (defensive)or rocket-pack (offensive)

the soldier could craft his own grenades,gadgets,missiles/warheads, but could not trade or sell them like jedi with lightsabers

with an assortment of skills to choose from to be as varied as the player so no two soldiers are alike.

swg should use this quest class to explore the uncharted territory of the mysterious mandalore for those who have no desire to go jedi.

dont just read this post respond as well

No offense, but I say fix what we have first, then worry about new classes/professions. Of course if that were the Devs train of thought then we would have the CR and GCW patches coming in September instead of that damned JTL.
