As far as the other defense abilities, not completely sure...There are RUMORS that defense stacking will be altered with the Combat Rebalance...some have even suggested that stacking will no longer work across any profession for any defenses...this is ONLY a rumor and not confirmed...I've seen it come up and I've fought against that idea (what's the point of dabbling if you can't benefit from it)...
That is pretty narrow minded imo. This is the main reason that MBH are so weak in PvP. Most people with the ability to dabble get stacked bonuses. This only benefits proffesions with low skill point costs.
The benefit of dablingshould be the ability to attack with more damage types and/or increasing your ability to switch from a ranged damage dealer to a melee tanker, NOTbecome a more powerful combatant.ie. Versitilaty is the goal rather than greater combatability. It is also the main reason why a crafter/combatantssuffer at and combat.
Stackable defense is the most unbalancing aspects of SWG imo. It is the same sort of arguement that crafters had against the forcesensitve crafting bonuses. If having two classes increases the ability of both classes you have,it forces people into narrow class templates in order to stay competive, rather than being free form, asSWG is advertized.
Actually, and nothing personal and I don't mean any offense, but I think you are the one who may be thinking a bit to narrowly...
Commandos lack defenses...that's the cost of our power (according to the devs)so it makes sense that our #1 reason for dabbling should be tocoverour weaknesses...So we dabble for defenses...
Some feel our greatest weakness is ranged attacks, so they dabble for ranged attacks...
Dabbling is to "enhance" what is missing from your template (to fix what is weak)...if you NERF the ability to "enhance" your templete by not allowing defenses to work cross professions, then why should "offense" attacks work across professions (that would be the next thing attacked by player protests)? Combat Ability is more then Offense, it's also Defense...Commandos have Offensive power...we need Defense, and thus, we dabble...
When I say you might be looking at this to narrow, I say this because you seem to be taking the idea that because BH's lack, everyone else should be penalized...Instead you should be looking at what is lacking in BH and work towards building up that profession (something I've supported very strongly)...
BH's lack certain PvP abilities, especially when it comes to Defense...their skill point cost should justfy them having as much defenses as someone who dabbles the same amount of points in other various professions...It should be balanced in that way....
It's a very narrow-minded view to say "Everyone should be brought DOWN to our leve"...it would be better to say "Bring usUP to their Level"...
Think about Balance...Imagine a profession that is pure Offense with no defense....would you say that profession is balanced? Now imagine a profession that is pure Defense with no offense...is that one any more balanced? How would each of these professions seek a balance? By dabbling of course...Dabbling is a necessary evil in the game because there should never be 1 perfect profession...if you need defense, you should get it by dabbling...if you need offense, you should get it by dabbling...if you lack the skill pts to get what you need because of the high cost of your profession, then your profession should be better balanced to take that into account...

Garvin, for a while, I thought this was the way to go. But if this keeps happening, I feel a side effect is that we'll just keep getting more and more uber. Right now, people solo Krayts. When I had my PvP template I'd take on NightSisters by the buschel and kill Ancient Rancors while reading a book( for the record I got through half of the Iliad doing this ) Our tendency to be uber has ruined the community aspect of this game in some respects. How do you get cash these days? You get a solo group on dantooine and you solo run Mokk missions. One thing this has done is really hindered support classes like the Squad Leader. When is the last time you popped a camp in the wild and healed up? We're walking these deadly planets as Gods! Perhaps a more suitable way would be to level out the classes. Find a middle ground and either raise or lower the classes to meet that ground? This is just my personal feeling, of course. As a coorespondent, you probably have certain introspective knowledge as to how things are unfolding so I can't say my system is best.
I personally think the DEVs are tired of making MOBs with hundreds of thousands in HAM just to be able to hinder the player base. As it stands right now, I know a friend of mine that litterally goes to the Krayt Dragon Graveyard, finds ANY dragon, agroes it, and then goes to watch TV for about a half an hour. Comes back and loots the corpse. Rinse and repeat.
If you all recall in the begining, 30k in HAM for a Krayt Dragon was huge! Now I am like... 30k? I can solo that.
