It seem like when i first started Commando some months ago, Flamecone1 was the best special I had. Now that I'm master Commando< after being delayedby holo grinding,it seems like the "Cone" Specials rarely hit. Has anyone else had problems with these specials.

The cone attacks are touchy. They wont work if mobs are right on top of you surrounding you. One of my favorite tricks is to send in a pet, like a tank droid,on a social gorup of mobs. All the mobs will attack the droid, allowing me to stand a couple meters back and light them all up.

They also seem to (sometimes?) hit mobs, but do no damage if they are not already in combat, which causes them to aggro.

The cones will not damage a group of creatures that are not aggroed to you, except for the target of the cone.

It's true that it will only hit a beyond your initial target if they are all aggro'd on you...
The trick I do is to get more then one NPC aggro'd on me, then run backwards and hit a FlameConewhile having one of the more healthy one's targetted...I've had pretty good sucess at getting them all in the right positions to get hit while they are chasing me (they tend to run in single file or right next to each other)...
One thing I have also noticed lately, with all our flame specials, is that we often seem to put a Flame Dot and a Bleed Dot on the target at the same time using our FTs...I've heard report of this from other professions as well with their more powerful weapons/specials...not sure if it's intended or a bug...

I think the bleed has to do with our wound chance. When I did a particularly damaging attack as a Pikeman, I'd get a mini-bleed.
But, what I do with Jantas is, let them all aggro me, then run about 15m north (they're all running towards me in a group now), flamecone, run 30m south (they've reclumped behind me), flame cone. Rinse and repeat. The cone usually hits everyone but the ones on the edge.

I have no problems flameconing a group of mobs who are attacking my droid, though, so I assumed they just had to be in combat with something. Maybe it just has to be attacking your group.

Thank for the info, It's nice to know I'm not crazy. I'll try the tricks tonight and see if they improve my preformance.

They better not say that this is working as intended... I'm sure that they'll fix it... Some day. Combat Balance? We can't wait that long!

Yea flamecone is screwy for sure. The only way it works with a mob is if there all in front of you by 12m or so and you blast them which will hurt your target and maybe two others but it sets everything on fire in front of you just about. Oh yea and I've been able to use Flamesingle2 and stuff at like 18m. As a commando the key is to move, stop, fire. Do this and you'll be all set. And while your waiting to recover from the delay move so the NPCs might not hit you so much then when it's over stop and fire. Kinda of annoying we always got to move around, but it does make things intrestin.

Ok, Itried several ofyour suggestion and results are mixed,
You do hit more Mobs within a very Limited area due to the special range of 16m.
Doesn't work well with NPCs with range attack since they won't group. (thus the social animals work best)
Your pet works better than a battle droid due to the ranged attack from the droid.
The Running works well but i feel like a coward (run away you coward runn away, MP), my idea of a Commando it in you face fighting.
Thanks again for the advise.
PS, If you flame an animal and harvest the meat is it Barbque?

i've noticed that running increases the chance of them being hit unless the mobs are too big to line up(like humbabaa's and such). I also have had a great deal of success with hitting with cone1 on groups that are right on top of me usually on the second shot(if i am buffed and such). Also if you have a 5000 negative faction it seems to hit the mobs evenif they aren't aggroed, though it might be because you get into range and then they aggro you before the shot goes off.just a few observations.
