Thread: Don't Nerf ANY class... nerf the dabblers
okay, i'm getting tired of the dabblers that just go into one 'Elite' profession just to dabble and get one skill box. Much like what is going on with the Flame Thrower... there needs to be penalties incurred for going up multiple elite skill tree's.
If you have more boxes in one profession than all others this should count as your primary and any skills used from other professions get the penalty. For all the smart asses who would like to keep all the skill boxes even than all the skills would get penalties for all of the skills... also you would only be able to master ONE elite profession, so no Master Pistoleer/Smugglers.
just some thoughts
And that would totally ruin the whole idea of the game...doesnt the hand book say that the idea of skill points was specifically designed SO that we could dabble..I'm not a dabbler but i dont agree with you at all..
The second poste summed it up, thats the goal of the game. Remove it and you have a bunch of cookie cutter characters with all the same skills making the game dull as hell.
The point I would like to see though is more candy for mastering a profession.
"The point I would like to see though is more candy for mastering a profession."
Now that I will agree with. All the professions need more rewards for reaching master level.
I agree with everyone else here. Skills make for unique characters, classes do not.

I understand where hes coming from, but I dont agree. The problem isnt the dabblers, its the combat system.
The only dabblers that are a problem, are the guys who dabble in medic. Healing in pvp is a bit out of control. The devs go and makea smart move by reducing pvp damage output by 75%, but they dont do any kind a reduction to healing. This means that any bh who dabbles in medic is pretty much unstoppable unless you have 5 people working on him at once, or doing mind damage to him.
Thats the problem, and its not the dabblers fault. They should be allowed to try out a great many things. Its part of the game design. But right now, with the way healing in combat works, anyone who wants to be a powerful force in pvp is pretty much forced to be a medic of some sort. That basically takes away what is supposed to make the combat medic profession special. Combat medics should be the ONLY class doing big healing while in combat.
I don't mind dabbling, most of us do it.
BUT I would like to see more of a reward for being at a master lvl.
this is my first post really on any of the boards, but I'd like to say that when I started playing this game I wanted to be a commando (mainly cause I wanted to be a psycho with a crapload of explosives =D) but then I found out that it was majorly bugged, so I held off a little. I took some artisan cause I wanted to make some of my own stuff, I took entertainer cause my friends needed one from time to time while out in the middle of no where, I took scout and went after my second proffession choice which was creature handler (which I finally got novice on saturday yay!)
My point is that I would have really been mad if I had worked so much to get to a class and then hated it and never been able to do anything with it, sure I'll have to give up some of my random skills later on but for now I still got skill points and probably a long way to go to commando *sigh*
If you're penalized for dabbling then I'm prolly gonna quit the game, cause that would take out one of the only aspects of the game that I really like. but I doubt the devs would but I've heard of some crazy stuff comin from them so ya never know.
