Anyone dip into the TKA profession as a Commando?

After mastering Commando, I decided to acquire novice TKA in hopes of gaining the defense benifits of Teras Kasi Warrior (0-0-0-4). But will this work? Am i actually gaining it's defense benifits while i'm holding and using my commando weapons? or am i just wasting my time.

as of now, im pretty sure that the defense mods do stack no matter what. but that wont last. pretty soon, the skill mods will only apply if your using a weapon from the profession you got the mod (ie. VK's for TKA, pistol for pistoleer ect...)

for now I believe so but soon they are gonna make it where you ONLY get those skills if you have the proper weapon in hand or in TK might be none in hand. You prob gonna switch weapons in and out to live.

I actually think they should stack...the defense mods that is. I mean, what is the point of being able to pick different professions. Without being able to stack modsthen we will all be cookie cutter toons running around with the same abilities ( depending on what weapons we have equiped ). It was one of the nice things SWG did.

As far as the original post.. ya TKM/commando is a great combo of professions. I do well in PvP and in PvE.

Yeah its amazing with having precision striking 4, how many things I can stand and fight in my boxers. I get hit like 1/10 times in PvE. Its fun, like russian roulette. Go stand in front of something that will kill you with one hit if your not in armor and see who dies first. lol

Oops. When I said 1/10 times, I mean more like 1/10 creatures that I kill.

Higher level NPCs you wont be that lucky but never the less quite good.

I also agree they shouldnt take the stacking away, we commandos have low defense ourselves, and if taking more combat professions no longer help me as a commando, I wont take em. maybe they should just give a bigger boost to all masters in accuracy.

Do you guys have a link to where they talk about this? I heard it was for just things like dodge, block and counter that they were going to do this for but not melee/ranged. I would like to find out more.

Yeah were have you heard that stacking may be taken out? Isn't that the point of the whole skill points system? So that you can dabble to create the character you want. Some choose to be masters and some choose jack of all, master of none.

Wow so if you wish to fight and do it decently you have this NICE selection someone makes on this board to optimize your fighting skills cause hell if you don't do this you suck....

ARE YOU NUTS! NOt everyone wants to be some dabbling twit looking to be uber some of might want to GASP do something else other than fight yet if we wish to partisapate in GCW we can't pick one profession we gotta do all that and a bag of chips? we got gods thanks to stacking mods NOW! Man quit the game and leave cause their gonna stop letting mods stack and I will all the more grateful for it... geez what's the point if no one can hit each other after 5 minites of shooting one another?

Sooner they stop letting mods stack the quicker we will get to the real problem. the professions themselves.

Wannabe Jack? dabble in the LOWER tiers not the Elite and Hybrid I mean someone dedicates their ENTIRE LIFE to persue these skills not wake up one day and say hmmm I need more defence here here and oh yeah here let's dabble! it's not a dance people. Limit 1 melee, range, and misc. We saw what happen with Chers the sooner they pull the plugs on all these silly dreams of godhood the better.

ok smart guy,

Your right its not a dance. Its about making your character the way you want it. For instance if you want to be a master commando you are certainly going to be a better "commando" than a dabbler. But maybe some people don't want to spend their "ENTIRE LIFE" to a certian proffesion, just to what interests them.

Ifthe game wasn't designed for the freedom of choice in what you do with your character.Maybeyou can explain to me why there are skill points and skill trees? huh?

This is a role-playing game. Its about evolving "your" character. The choice is yours whether you not you want to be the best at 1 or 2 things or play around with multiple things.

And about your CH'er comment... there are still dabblers in CH'er

I will give you a little insight:

ALL defense Mods stack.

Secondary Defense Mods (Acuity, Block, Counterattack, Dodge) stack as well, but are only usable with a weapon type that utilizes this Mod (e.g. Counterattack only works with 2-H weapons and carbines). State Defense Mods stack as well.

Against the common belief, this will NOT change in the forseeable future. The devs said they would look into it, but after correspondence with the correspondents, they set a change of this model on the backburner.

I hope this was of some help,

Actually that would defeat the Dev's purpose of encouraging dabbling and defeat the logic of the combat system...Non profession spefic combat mods will always stack...only profession specific combat mods should not stack...

If they made it so that a defense mod that is shared by both professions did not stack then how would they filter out other mod enhancers like attachments and tapes...not to mention weapons shared by professions via the marksman level...If I use a pistol that is cert'd in the markman profession and get accuracies from Smuggler and Pistoleer, how would the system know which which profession to lean my mods towards...

The complexities and conflicts this would cause for shared mods are huge...it would be a game breaker...currently they can do that for mods like unarmed toughness since it's an TKA only mod...but not Melee or Ranged Def...it would involve a whole new system in place that would really throw off game mechanics...

So sorry...Shared mods will continue to stack for sometime to come no matter what rumors say...even the dev's wouldn't be that foolish to screw with that and ruin one of the main reasons people dabble (something the dev's are encouraging us to do)...

Instead the dev's may either shift the defense level of some professions in the popular combinations or...which is more likely...stealth nerf the system so that Higher Defenses offer less protection (i.e. +170 melee defense is extermely strong right now...but after patch that could act and feel like +90 does)...This would be less obvious and has been their trend as of late...

I ran tests this week showing the differences between having no TKA skills and 0003 TKA. The results are at http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=commando&message.id=40755

He basically wants a class based game.

To that I say go play EQ.
