Last night I was PVPing and having a good time. Then I ran into a guy that must have killed me 20 times. I never even got him 1 time. After the battle I challenged him to a duel. He let me walk up, kneel, /AIM, and Flame single 2, flame cone2. I did that 10 times and hit him once. I could not hit him with a RL or HPBC. All this while he was crawling around on the ground. He then tells me that commando's are great in PVE and needed for taking out turrets. But if I want to PVP, I will be a faction cow (whatever that is).

Then he told me his template "since everyone is going this way" he tells me.

Master Rifle - 4/0/0/4 TKA - 4/0/0/0 Fencer - rest into medic and scout.

Can a commando ever beat one fo these? I am not sure what I did wrong..

Please Help......

im master commando, tka 4.0.0.4, rifleman 4.3.0.4

I think i should have higher ranged defenses than this guy. +122 ranged.

First, you were shooting at him while he was prone. that decreases your accuracy loads. even more if he was using /takecover (rifleman ability).

then if he was moving around while crawling and /takecover (master riflemen can do this), that means you were shooting a moving target that had 2 ranged defense boosting things on top of him. and your flamer suffers a big penalty in accuracy against moving targets (we have zero on-the-move accuracy).

lastly, check the accuracy mods on your flamer. most flamers have only positive mods at 0-11m. if you were shooting beyond that then yeah, you wont hit very much.

when you face people with those templates that you cant hit them, you have to use your brawler skills. Intimidate works out to 30m range, and it not only cuts HIS damage in half, lowers HIS accuracy by HALF, but it also makes him TWICE as easy to hit (which is good for you). Then a warcry if you inside 20m leaves him helpless for 10 seconds. Buy yourself an undershirt and bandolier that has +intimidate/+warcry and it will work most of the times.

Thank you, I will have to try that. I was at like 3 -5 meters by the way. never thought of the prone stuff. Okay will get the cloths like you said and use those idea's. So you think that a commando can take them. Cool. I was getting scared.

U will not be able to hit this guy, He has all the defensese of those profesions i've seen a guy take 8 decent pvp players with a build very similer to this and i don't think anyone was able to land a shot on him. A buffed pistoleer or buffed rifleman has a chance but thats about it, Unfortunatly unless u are extremly lucky as a commando u just simply arn't going to land a shot on him. There is talk with the new combat changes that they will make the defenses only effective when u have the certian weapons of the profession armed, but we'll need to wait and see.

Hope this helps, don't jump ship just wait for the new combat changes and see what happens.

My boy Cheech is a Master in a couple of professions that give very good defensive bonuses (counterattack) and when he activates his Center of Being, he's practically unhittable. We laugh when we look at his combat tab after a fight.

For instance, I watched him go into a faction base last night because this one sucker thought he'd be safe in there with the other NPC's helping him. I think he got hit about 1-2 times with about 3 NPC's and on PC all in one room. Of course, he took them ALL out.

With his melee profession, the guy played right into his hands by going into cramped quarters.

not exactly true. you can hit them, you just have to find a way how to. intimidate is one very effective tool for this. Matter of fact, id strongly suggest you macro intimidate before flamespecial attack, it seriously increases your chances against any template. if he has120 ranged defense, intimidate will practically drop that to 60 ranged defense for 15 seconds. i have a macro that /intimidate twice, kneels character, /aim and overcharge shot 2. Also have my flamespecial macro with 2 intimidates and then the flamespecial attack.

Does the /intimidate skill come from the Unarmed tree?

If you don't have at least TK novice, don't bother with this....

This is how I deal with other mod stackers...

Intimidate first -- Along with what Tac says it does, it also disables their reactive defenses (dodge, block, and counter attack) while in the state.

Blind second -- Makes them easier to hit also.

Warcry until it lands, but don't spam.

Then get as close as you can, /aim, /flamecone2 (or whichever you use).

You might also want to contact a master weaponsmith and have them experiment the accuracy on a flamethrower for you.

tacwraith, good idea on the macroing in intimidate before flame why i havn't done that earlier is beyond me but i deffinatly will as soon as i get ingame thanks for the advice. Quick question though, does intimidate also bring down the targets chance to dodge, because i believe thats what this build relies heavily on. I know that a flame dot will still dot on a dodge as will a bleed but i don't think somebody is going to let u get in close enough to get in flame range. Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

I dont know, the previous poster said it did. ill have to test that. I had been using it because it makes them easier to hit with the flamer, and the dot is the only damage i really trust (composite armor and pvp damage reduction makes the initial damage be not very high).

burst run. its the only thing you can do. when you hit burst run it will take about 5 seconds for the other guy to burst run to get away, and by then its too late.

Does knockdown work to strip defences also? I am dabbling in Smuggler, so will Low Blow work? IE LowBlow followed by panic shot.

no. lowblow only deals knockdown..once they are knocked down they do get a severe penalty in defenses and extra damage. But the problem is getting this player to KD. pistoleer and fencer have real good vs kd mods.

and if you dont have pistoleer accuracy then you will likely not even hit the other guy, for you will be shooting the smuggler attacks with master marksman accuracies.. theres no chance there.

I know exactly what the original poster is talking about. I was with a group of ten and we were all taken out by one guy. We were buff'd and he wasn't. I stayed right next to the guy and just kept spamming flamesingle2 and flamecone2. Not a one of them hit.

I checked the combat log and I missed 12 times in a row. 12 times!

Later in the week, I saw the guy again and just asked him why the hell I couldn't hit him. He said it was because he had +168 Ranged Defense.

I'm just hoping that the suggestions posted in this thread work for the next time I run into him.
