Thread: Hmmm, lots of professions are getting new weapons......

yeah, garvin is right for the most part. the heavy weapons are basically useless except for the rocket launchers. but those are so expensive, very few have a supply of them to use, much less finding a weaponsmith to make them. it takes about 4 hours to make a batch. yup, 4 in game hours. that's a lot of trouble for something that will go poof in 30 uses.

and i did a little research on the weaponsmith forums. seems that the schematic at the end of jabba's palace is a 3 use schematic for a featherweight fwg5. it has skill mods on the gun for dodge, counter attack and accuracy. at the end of the rebel themepark, you get a schematic for a new republican blaster. there's also a schematic to find a new DXR6 carbine. and this is just what's been found out so far.

lots of professions out there are getting new weapons it seems. carbiniers get the slug-thrower, pikemen get the nightsister energy lance. fencers have always been able to get the rantok sword (although its not that good) and now swordsmen are going to be able to get the scythe and pistoleers the geonoshan sonic pulse blaster. and lets not forget that creature handlers get a new pet(s) every publish.

i'm wondering when the commandos will get some lovin'. there's a thread about the new jabba schematics, but i haven't heard anything about them yet. any info on that would be sweet. this class is in need of something new to give us a viable substitute to the flamethrower. it doesn't have to be an uber weapon, just something else to use. heck the pikeman energylance isn't that good and the nym slugthrower carbine is basically a DXR6 with a different skin. give us something, anything.

any thoughts on this?

Well its probly the fact commando's already have more weapons unique to them than any other profession that is keeping them from adding more. Sure the flamethrower is the only one most people use but there are lots of other things available.

You missed what our "new" weapon will be...

It will be the Heavy Acid Rifle.

When its all ready to go, it'll be our "new" weapon, because no commando is foolish enough to have used this excuse for a weapon for anything more than decoration.

Imagine actually toting one of these, burning your opponent with a wash of acid. Sounds new to me!

Ummm...Sifer, are you even familiar with the Commando Profession? We have lots of weapons in the Heavy Weapon Tree, but if you look at them they are ALL Consumable...in essence just like grenades, once they are used up they are done...they don't count...especially thanks to the weak accuracy and the difficulty to make (making them rare and costly)...If you take those out of the equation, our regular weapons are as follows:

  • Flame Thrower (FT) - Our only working weapon with it's own specials...about to receive a big NERF...

  • Launcher Pistol (LP) - A Commando pistol with no accuracy, speed or specials of our own...just a big boom maker unless you dabble in Pistoleer (which we shouldn't have too)...

  • Heavy Acid Rifle (HAR) - Broken and should be replaced entirely rather then fixing...this is where we should see a new weapon...Nobody, besides a Master Commando, is silly enough to even waste any skill points on the HAR tree....

If you try to add Grenades to that list, then trying being a Commando and running out and use them...you'll change your mind on that as well...you'll incap yourself faster then your opponent can incap you...

Well yes I am familiar with the profession. Im going through it right now. And what I said was that it still has alot of weapons unique to it. Even if you dont count them they are still there. Several types of grenades, Rocket launcher, Launcher Pistol, Acid Rifle, Flame Thrower, Heavy particle Beam Cannon, Heavy lightning Cannon.

Thing is those are all weapons. They are unique in thier damage types and thus help the Commando be prepared for facing different types of enemies. Other elites except for Bounty Hunter are stuck with only like one weapon unique to them. Now I will agree that Flame Thrower is the Commando's onlymajor weapon and that the others are bugged and not as useful as they should be. But I see no need to add more weapons when simply fixing all these existing ones would do just fine.

"Now I will agree that Flame Thrower is the Commando's onlymajor weapon and that the others are bugged and not as useful as they should be."

That has to be the biggest understatement of all time. Of all our heavy support weapons (which see limited use anyways, and can't be fired indoors) only two of them are even really used, the HPBC and RL. Don't even get me started on grenades or the HAR in terms of usefulness.

If you look at what we're intended to use, we're about even with the other professions in terms of damage variety, if not behind, as any commando who currently tries to use a conventional weapon (rifle/pistol/carbine)is going to get stomped. Rifleman, pistoleers, and even carbiniers have more variety in weapon options than we do - even if our weapons weren't broken.

So why don't we get a bone thrown to us in the form of a new weapon? I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that whoever developed the commando profession had the genious idea of making two of our skill trees devoted to two specific non-consumable weapons - severly hampering any building space for new ones.

Frankly, I think the reason we aren't seeing any new weapons is due to the fact that we're the victim of horrible planning and implementation of ideas that weren't perfect to begin with. Alas, maybe we'll see some positive results in publish 7.

I'm starting to think that the new "weapon" we'll get is commonly known as:

The shaft.

(And it'll hurt us mightily)

I'd agree, but the Rantok and Scythe were always supposed to be there. Calling them "new" is a bit of a misnomer. Commandos without doubt need a non-consumable armor piercing weapon.

Don't begrudge the swordsman the scythe. The cert for it has been there since the beginning...but the weapon just got added, and requires special drops and whatnot to even make.
