Sure, I have done some PvP, and have had good success and poor success, though mostly as a part of a large group raiding or defending....
I have dueled my friends, but last night I finally decided to duel a stranger to see how effective a master commando in that situation...
Yes, I am sure most of you have had this kind of experience, but in my frustration, I am venting though this post....
ME: master commando and master carbineer, buffed in all 9 stats, yes all 9, plus some brandy to boot, wearing high end composite (80-90%)
OPPONENT: Novice BH, up in some of the trees, not sure how far. Buffed and armor (i think)
I agreed that i would not use any fire DOT's (save wounds).
After he accepted my challenge, he used a couple of specials on me, resulting in my butt being on the ground, dizzied, and unable to get up, my HAM getting hammered....

So, we start again, with one BIG change, this time, I am using my carbine (elite carbine,i think it was, decent gun, nothing special).
In a matter or 20 seconds or less, he has been incapped, and I am hardly damaged......
What is wrong with this story?
Why do i even keep commando? I can be much more effective with just my master carbineer profession, and thats not even close to being as powerful as a master rifleman, or a custom template of various professions....
Ever since about 1 month into the game, I wanted to be a commando, what i thought would be THE profession to be if you wanted to fight/shoot/etc.....
I mastered it months ago and at the time was enjoying the power that went with it......
Then came the bad news....
"how much for a rocket launcher?" "At that price I better get back to hardcore mining to support this profession, but then, i have much less time to actually use a rl, so i guess theres a weapon I wont be using."
"Does this HAR actually work? Don't these things have a DOT?" nada
"Hey!, I just threw a grenade and incapped myself, doh, I must not be doing it right..." heh
"Woohoo, I'm buffed, just bought a few RL's and lookie here, an AT ST"
(30 seconds later)
"whoops, looks like my HAM is gone now, not sure if it is from shooting RL's, or the AT ST blasts on my while im kneeling to shoot this RL" lets look through the combat window, since im dead now......
"Your rocket launcher missed an AT ST"
"Your rocket launcher missed an AT ST"

"Your rocket launcher hits an AT-ST for 5300 point of damage" woohoo, lol

....hmmmm maybe my toon is borked, i thought a master commando didn't miss much.... -known myth
then came thenerf, much lower flame DOT.- well, sure, 1800 points a tick did seem a bit much, I assumed others with dots like CM's will get the same nerf.....another known myth
Oh, you mean if someone attacks me melee, then I get a 2.5 modified what? I dont understand? We have unarmed4, what does this mean?
Ahh a TKM nearby, lets duel him and see what that means....

Oh, that means that if somone comes and melee's me, 2.5 means:
DEAD in 2.5 seconds- ahhhh, I getit now.....
in conclusion, I have learned that a commando is good for some things, like lighting bar-be-cue grills, torching pets for aspiring doctors, and oh yea, being 1 of the 5 meeded professions for a base take down.....
well, since i can help take down a base, there comes my purpose in the SWG realm.....
Commando=easy target for ALL other combat professions, but a must have for base takedown...
Works for me........not.
This combat revamp had BETTER give us the "lovin" we deserve, or I foresee the end of the commando.
Jaek-master commando for 6 months now....how much longer will I last?
FIXING THE HAR WILL NOT REMEDY THIS BROKEN PROFESSION, FIXING MANY THINGS MIGHT.
p.s. dont forget to buy some barking droids to protest in theed or coronet for us, we have to be out making money to support our consumable weapons, no time to protest. Oh wait, will we even get any benefit from Droids rebuilt? The jury is out.....

Sad but so true.
Even the s*%t that comes out of TH's mouth like "No one will take away your blast damage" gets thrown out the window with crap no one asks for.
VVTF is an exploding droid going to do to improve the 2 proffesion it has nothing to do with. As it is , its just shafting commandos. Id LOVE to hear one application a smuggler would use a droid to explode. Or a bouthy hunter at that! I can understand that they could use them on thier marks but that doesnt fix any real problem the BH's have. I dont see a single thing on either boards on thier most desired things, that ask for droids to blow up. If so, link it.
Someone told me a marketin strategy is that making a certain group of people so fed up with something, that eventualy no one is left. To make them do/go elsewhere so they can get rid of the things they dont want. Obviously, with the crap they give us, they dont want commandos. Other wise, they wouldnt give us "wait for combat balance" for every question that has something to do with IMPROVING the actual class. In other words, wait for nothing. If you cancel your account, they wont care because its less people they need to work on and to them, were replaceable. NOTHING TH SAYS can make me change my mind. Im fed up with any one saying something will happen. Go shove it devs, untill a patch is RELEASED, then maybe ill stick around and listen to the crap you have to say.

Use your flamer its your greatest asset. Once you get master commando drop everything except the flame tree and you are pretty decent.

Hey guys, i know im only a newb to commando, and at first i liked it, but now i hate haveing only ONE good weapon i can do ANYTHING with. i already now that some ppl will be sayin "yea well ur only a 1/1/2/1 so u can go shove it, its the master commandos who need to be "wining"(if u wanna call it that)" but im fed up with having other people kick my ass each time im accidently overt in theed (hey it happens to other ppl). in fact just the other day i was at the empire's retreat, and a novice RM (overt reb) ran up to me, and before i even shot, he pulled a headshot3 on me and i was incapped, (the worst part is that he was RUNING THE WHOLE TIME!!! RM DONT HAVE ANY ACC WHILE MOVINGHOW THE HELL DID HE DO THAT?!?!?)i hate gettin my ass kicked my everyone but the total newbs who can barly kill a chuba. ive already planned to master commando, and if by time the devs havent at least fix one or two of the problems we have, im goin to the "dark side" (another profession). im sry if i was ranting, if i pissed anyone off...live with it, and if u find any spelling errors u can keep em.

im 2 skill boxes from mastering commando, i love the power i have in pve but pvp sucks donkey balls for nickles.
the other night i am out with a potential new guild mate showing him around and i run into a friend of mine (thedark crow). i know that crow loves to duel so i challenge him and he accepts. does he don a vibroknuckler??? no, this TKM uses a freakin MUSICAL INSTRUMENT and beats me to death.
i know that the hand held instruments arent weapons but he did the tkm attacks while holding it. my potential guildie was dying laughing at me getting pwned by a guy in no armor but comp boots, gloves, and helm and holding a friggin guitar.

honestly I dont knwo what your guys' problem is
Ive been using my GF's TKA defense/Commando toon a lot the past few days an dim having more success with it as far as PvP and and Rebel missions than i EVER did with my swordsman.
Mys wordsman is probably better for most PvE but not for the reb missions.
witht he TKA and CoB defenses she rarely gets hit, i mean its a HUGE difference......but mroe than that i find her FT to be amazing. With my scythe i can take out a Stormtrooper in 4 swipes or so....about 3-5 seconds. With her FT i can 1 shot killt hem.
Plus as an added bonus i dont have to run to chase them down.....ive completed difficulty 130 Stormtrooper posts 40-60% faster with her commando toon than i do with mys wordsman toon.
And as for PvP.....there snothing liek getting a flame DoT on sum1. Sure mind damage is cool, but when youve got a 2.4 speed 1200 max damage FT..the wounds tend to add up. And we all know wounds are much better in PvP than just damaging peopel and sendign them to the cloner so they can zerg back out.
Anyway...ive been having a lot more funw ith her commando than ive had with my own toon in ages.

btw i won 3 duels in a row one against rifleman, 1 against a melee mix, and one against a pistoleer/fencer/TKA

I was venting.
Like most all of us, I want this profession to work (at least a little better than it does now), and I am impressed with Garva's efforts to get it fixed.
It's that I look at things upcoming, and our profession'sfix seems sooooo far away.

So how do you avoid these bloody "knockdown" blows? I've duelled TK guys before, I get knocked on my ass and next thing I know I'm out of it!

Ok as a defensive stacker, soon to be commando player... I'll give you some advice on how to beat melee professions.
This applies to everyone...
Things all PvPers need in the current state of the game
80% Kinetic armor... 30+% stun layered helmets, and at least 4% in all other pieces to make ap0 stun weapons have 50% decrease in damage (only the jawa ion is ap1)
80+ Defense vs KD food (thakitillo)
Synthsteak (personal preferences on higher damage or longer lasting)
Vasarian Brandy (less than 50 filling, and preferrably 400+)
Accuracy Food (forgot name) VERY VERY important for commandos
Ok some things to remember... as a commando you have access to brawler skills by requirement. Here are some tips.
Intimidate = lowers defenses of enemy... very important vs melee professions
Warcry = Warcry is a great way to put things to your side in a duel. Once you've applyed the flame DOT, warcry, peace, and wait for 10 seconds. This allows 10 seconds for the DOT to begin doing its work.
Last but not least
You have 250 skill points, if you are not using all 250 of these in combat, you are not likely going to be successful in GCW. Mastering no one profession in this game will make you 'ubber.'
Ido not understand people that mastera professionand do not understand why they cannot beat a character that mastered X profession and dabbling in X,X, and X professions. Thats how the game works, its dynamic allowing you to be different from everyone else. If you wish to be soley pvp, expect to haveat least 1 otherprofession to go with commando.
