Thread: Advice on a template

Hi gang,

I'm still fairly new but I'm looking for a good ranged combat template, and I'd like to focus on Pistols. Here's what I was considering, please let me know if this would be appropriate for PvE and occasional PvP:

Master Pistoleer
Master Scout
Master Marksman
Bounty Hunter Pistols 1-4

(13 points remaining, not sure what to do with).

Anyhow, let me know if this is a good idea, a terrible idea, or somewhere in between. Thanks!

Speaking of - what is the best way to increase ranged/melee defenses, respectively?

Hello


I'm bowing out of the hologrind and going back to creating my character the way I want her to be. I'm thinking Dancer/Teras Kasi Artist/Fencer. The problem is I'll only be able to master 2 of these three professions.


Now, I'm thinking that Fencer will be the one I don't master, and I'm wondering what the best use is of the skill points I'll have left to distrubute. Teras Kasi takes 92, Dancer takes 106, leaving me with just36 points (once I go up the fencing tree in brawler).


Any thoughts on which trees would be most useful, and why? Or reasons I should master Fencer instead of Teras Kasi? I'm just looking for some fun friendly advice.

I'd say get into TK and Fencer and then see which you prefer

I need some help deciding on a template for commando. The first one I'm thinking is master commando/TKM/ and novice medic...I heard that commando lacks good defensives so I thought TKM would work well with it. The other one is master commando/master pistoleer/novice medic, I thought master pistoleer would be good for the launcher pistol because of the specials and speed mods.


Another question I have is that I was wondering if commandos are good against Jedi...I think that fire is the only state that Jedi cant heal so I thought it might work well. Any advice from the experienced commandos out there? Any help or ideas would be great.

I'm a master TK and 4/3/4/0 commando working on master right now. It works pretty well, though I do still have the defenses from Pistoleer (Def v KD, etc)


Master TK / Master commando is good because you get meditate/powerboost.


Master TK / Master pistoleer is good because you get a real way to use the launcher pistol + good dodge (with pistol equipped) and other defenses.


Tough call, but probably Master TK is the way to go so that you get both the ranged and the melee damage mitigations.

My personal opinion is go with pistoleer. Reason being is this is mostly just a little idiosyncracy (sp?) that i have. Why master a professions with skills that don't really help each other. For example, while tka gives defenses, it really had no other thing that it meshes with in the commando tree, whereas pistoleer (giving some defenses) would be a significant boon to your LP as well as give you some pretty sweet weapons with the geonosian blaster etc..


Furthermore..unless they give TKAs fists that make critter explode, i have no interest in doing anything with them really.


Personally, i'm going commando/smuggler with 3 blocks from a tree of pistoleer (haven't really decided which yet)


To answer the last question..i've never fought a jedi before but i hear we miss like crazy because apparently walls of flame can be blocked.

Commando- 3-4-4-0

TKM

Pistoleer- 0-0-4-4


Oh, and I believe that grenades are effective against Jedi since they can't block em......yet they can block a rocket...

I thought of a template, doc 4010, master pikeman, swordsman 0404, brawler 0044, combat prowess 0044. Now I know the defenses arent the best in the world. But it would help heal all the insane DOTs and put those CMs in their places. Plus, if you can't beat em, join em! I got master pikeman for some of my own DOTs and elec damage for DWB runs and vette and the like. Swordsman's speed isnt the best but eventually i'd be able to cap speed and I have head hit 3 for still being able to solo elders and such. Lets hear your thoughts

first of all there is a post by gunman about templates, thats for trying to avoid those 10posts each day about templates. However i will respond here, but next time use the template post please.


First of all, if i where you id change doc to 3.0.2.0 this is because on doc 4.0.0.0 you only get cure disease and thats not as inportant any more, the two "main cures" are poison and fire. You also get your med use up to a decent level so you can use fire blankets and beter poison cures.


Secondly, i would not get swordsman 0.4.0.4 swordsman is slow and inaccurate even at master. With this build it will be horrible, me with a master swordsman alt thats speed caped, it takes me 6mins +- 2 to solo a elder. You will be looking at +25min here, and thats not a efficent way to do it. Swordsman imo is a master it or dont bother profession.


Basicly if you want to dabble in a melee profession TKA or fencer would be the chooise since you will get the defences that comes along with it.
