I'm still having fun and, to be honest, I don't notice a difference after the DoT nerf. Of course, it came only about a week after I started the profession, so maybe I'd not played long enough notice. What I did notice right away is that our initial damage with the specials has been increased quite a bit, resulting in lots of one-shots on NPCs, and the heat resist on a MOB only works against the actual hits. (100% heat resistant mobs can still be set on fire.)

As for what you want to kill, no one should be able to solo them, (and everyone does, I know.) If you're only a commando, then no way. That said, I was a creature handler since September, and I dropped it once I decided to try out commando, as I discovered that I could take most things without my creature tank.

Pick up some defense lines from rifleman or tk, and you'll be happy I think. Just don't expect to be Arnold Schwarzenegger or anything.

My best solos so far:

Fort Tusken. (Managed to show up when there were only 2 other people there. One got pissed off at me and left, the other died.) ((No, just the first wave. The second wave hasn't spawned on our server for months ))

Almost all of the Warren, until my buffs ran out, followed shortly by my muon...

And I made it through exactly 11 NPCs at the Crystal Caves before they finally got me with some nasty force choke thing.

Commando is great fun, it just needs a LOT of fixing.

I pretty much own in PvE, unless it's against a creature with high heat resists (virtually every really tough creature including Rancors, Night Sisters, Kimos, ect, ect).

So, if you want to be effective against any of the above, you'll probably need to pick up another profession in addition to commando (unless the Acid Rifle becomes effective after Publish 8).

Thanks to Heat resists I would say no...

We can still take out the lower creatures pretty quick, but then again so can many other professions...plus many other professions who don't deal as powerful an initial shot as we do (via our special) still out power us when you look at DPS...

Saying we were Kings before is misleading...our DoTs and such made it appear we were very powerful, but when you weigh in our restrictions, delay, speed and accuracy, we weren't much better then Rifleman or other ranged professions, plus they had many advantages over us...it all depends on the situation.

PvE and PVP king.....

Dueled a master he killed me in 1 hit with that so called nerfed dot shot, he hit me for over 2000.

Dueled another master he did the same thing, 1 shot 1 kill.

dueled another he also did the same thing, PVP kingindeed. IM a Bounty Hunter and I got 1 eye shot off to blind, but not one of them missed even when blinded, and still 1 hit killed me.

You all can say your not to powerfull, but you can only lie to yourselfs for so long. With that 1 flame shot any player will die, maybe even with buffs and armor.

Youshouldredo this duel with the same master commando from 30+ meters away and start off with Fire Knockdown followed by Confusion Shot,youcan replace confusion with spray shot if you're aMBH,it'll be a very different story. The commando will be on his/her back while you finish him/her off. The carbine line of BH is a very powerful line, thatand the LLC specials and I never had an NPC mark last more than 3 or 4 attacks. I'm sure its the samein PvP, being a wookiee I rarely engaged in it whenI wasa BH.
