Thread: Shorter than a Year, but longer than a Mini-Piblish......My Thoughts

Wellin my opinionif its going to take that long, then somethings need to be fixed in the short term. As it currently stands the Commando Profession is useless on most high end content (namely Deathwatch Bunker, the Corvettes and against the Sith during Village Phase 4). Everyone of the Mobs and NPC's in the afore mentioned places are AR 2 or 3 with 75%+ resists to most all damage types. But most other profession have weapons that are either AP2 and some AP3.


While we do have two AP 3 weapons available to us, finding them is another problem. Since most Weaponsmiths won't make them because of the time involved.


So right now we need some short term fixes, personally I would like to see the HAR be made AP2 or AP3and the Flamer at least made AP1 or AP2. At least this would allow commandos to be useful again until the Combat Upgrade is implemented. I know that hints have been dropped that after the CU armor piercing won't be a problem. But that is how far down the road? Our problems are in the here and now. We need some small quick fixes at this point in time not more stealth nerfs.

I like this profession, its the first elite/hybrid profession I've mastered. Its the only profession that I've the most desire to do after seeing the profession list in the manual whenI bought the game. If I pick up a second elite profession I want it to compliment the commando skills, not be better than the commando skills.

Correct me if im wrong but we've sent those things in as issues alrdy, but if yer point is to give us that before CU, hey im down where do I sign haha

This is good...we need some desperate short term fixes. Just a prior warning to all...even though we're getting major loving in the CURB...don't expect commando to become picture perfect. The CURB is about core combat...something we DESPERATELY need fixed...but we won't be seeing broad weapon revamps (which we need) and among other things...


The wait for the CURB is/will be long enough...till we can be fully perfect...we really do need these short term fixes.

OK, although I agree ith you, to be perfectly honest I don't see this happening. Why, well because the sandbox is going live within the next few weeks and the holidays are among us. Since SOE has said that all effort will be put into making the CU a success, they cannot afford to spare one or more people to make temporary fixes.


So if we are not usefull now, the cold hard truth is that we will continue to be so until after the CU, not before, and not during. Sorry, but we must accept this. Its a take it or leave it situation. If you can hamg on until beta or til after the CU, then great. If you cannot wait and need an immediate fix, you'd better leave. Plain and simple.


I like this profession, its the first elite/hybrid profession I've mastered. It sounds like some of the things they have planned will make this game fun once again, at least for me. I hope as many of us Commandos can get into the CU beta to help make it what it needs to be.


Oh, and as far as AP is concerned, pretend it does not exist. It makes it eaiser. That might actually be a great combat upgrade, just get rid of AP completely.

MY T21's and DRX-6B's hate you for this..... My flamethrower loves it, but I was a rifleman first, and have spent millionson them, Most where custom made. I can only have nightmares if ap no longer becomes an issue, if rifleman don't get defense to help them stay alive. We live and die by our ap.

First of all we are in the Commando forum, and I think it would be great for us Commandos.But it could be a benefit to all professions if wethink of it this way: Imagine no weapon has ap, then think Commandos are really made into HEAVY weapons specialists (meaning that our weapons actually do cause tons of damage, more than they do now, and that we are the one profession able to deal out this much damage) then throw in some better defenses and now we are talking about getting somewhere.


Also, wouldn't it be great if you could use your rifleman skills with your commando weapons? Could actually make a great template, and something fun.



Another thing that I think we are completely forgetting about it content. This game as a whole will not get too much funner if we do not incorporate CONTENT. If the CU goes perfectly, lol, we will still be complaining for another year, because there is no content to use our skills on. In general this game needs the CU, GCWU, Smuggler Revamp, other profession revamps, expansion for planets such as Hoth, etc. and a huge push to create a ton of CONTENT.



Anyway, that's what I think.

Just a simple addition of speed in master for the FT or SOMETHING to help us out is all we ask...and I presume they can easily just drop in a few extra speed mods...which has been in discussion between garv and the devs for some time I believe...the CURB testing will be a fairly long haul...the devs need to make concessions to keep players.

oo...I SO want to comment on AP...but due to the NDA I cant...its really a fascinating new system...

Yes, a speed increase at MASTER would be MUCH appreciated.


Can't wait to hear what youhave to say about AP!!!


But until I'm in beta, I have no NDA, haha.

It really doesn't concern me one way or the other to be honest, just pointing out that you could get someone in trouble, depending on the mood of SOE.

Said person did not answer any questions over dinner with concrete answers...only allowed Johbo to speculate about possible answers and re-reviewed hints that have been shared with everyone in this forum, including a very important one which has been said over and over "DO NOT WORRY ABOUT AP"...They mostly talked about possible future directions of how Commandos could go and what they'd like to see out of a Melee/Ranged hybrid profession...


Speculation is a good thing...sometimes the speculations are on track and sometimes they are way off track...to get the answers, people need to get themselves into Beta...


In the meantime I actually encourage speculation...but remember, I'm not the only hinter out there...there is a lot of good hints out there that can easily be found...putting the peices together can help draw a pretty nice picture of the direction the CU is going...the most important details though will need to have the CU docs to figure out...
