Thread: READ THIS: What is the best race/starting profession for Commandos POST stat migration?
Hey all,
I was reading Wolvie28's last post and I started to think about an idea of his to lower his health for his Wookie in exchange for more mind points in return and then I got to thinking what would be one the better races with theirstarting profession after modifying it a little for a good commando template.
Now, I will say that I just created a Rodian commando (and a spiffy one at that) but if there was a technically more "efficient" point wise via stat migration for the right race AND starting profession then I would be interested in seeing what that might be.
This is a thread that I would like to see good constructive ideas whether or not you think they are or not. I'm just interested in seeing what the rest of you think. Commando's just seem "cool" and whether or not the class is what we envision it to be one day, the idea of getting ideas on a good race template is intriguing.
Personally, I'm planning on having a Commando / Bounty Hunter one day and Rodians just look a little devious IMO. I chose the Marksmen template and did not change any stats, but being that I've done nothing with him I can easily delete and recreate him anytime.
Let's have fun with this one and who knows.......we may be able to excite someone with some really good ideas and help them create a toon really suited to their liking.
Thanks everyone!
As far as I know all races get an identical "pool" of points? So (within reason, there may be some hard top/bottom caps, I've not significantly looked into it) you can use Stat Migration before you enter the world to set up any race to have any combination of HAM.
Which means the only three factors when choosing your race for a Commando (or any other profession really) are:
1) which one you like the look of most
2) if they have any racial bonuses that are going to make a big impact on your game
3) if you're planning to become Imperial (Humans get a vastly reduced faction point cost on Imperial items compared to the other races)
Plus if you want lots of armour, don't pick a wookie. That's about it really.
I was wondering this myself, which is why I dug up this old thread. What stu0x said about equal pools isn't quite correct:
Bothan 5400
Human 5400
Mon Calamari 5400
Rodian 5400
Trandoshan 5550
Twi'lek 5400
Wookiee 6100
Zabrak 5400
So, just from a pool-wise standpoint, as always, the Wookiees win with 6100 points in their pool. Trandoshans have 5550 points, and the rest of the species have 5400. Now, since the idea of a Wookiee with a flamethrower is a shocking and potentially disastrous one, you should think about the pros/cons of the races. Wookiees cannot wear heavy armor, which limits them as Commandos. Trandoshans can wear some nice armor, but I've heard rumors that they can't wear gloves, so that is a minor limit. Zabrak have some nice innate abilities like Equilibrium and Revitalize, Humans supposedly have a 5% experience bonus, etc. I'm looking to start an alternate character to alleviate the boredom of an Artisan, and I thought the arduous trek to Commando would be bloody enough to entertain, so I'm looking at the various races to see who fits. I'm leaning towards Trandoshan, mainly because I like the idea of a big lizard with an acid rifle. but, if others have comments, please let us know. Thanks!

There are DEFINITELY differences between the species. For instance, the minimum will a Zabrak can have is 700. No other class can have a willpower that high - even the Mon Cal's can only get up to 650. I made a quick and dirty table at http://home.kc.rr.com/dasloth/SpeciesStats.htmlif anyone is interested.
What I don't know is what commando weapons use what stats. For instance, rifle special moves tend to eat a lot of mind. That makes the rifle a good weapon for most Mon Cal's with good mind stats. Zabraks can only have a max mind of 1000 and not all that much focusso they wouldn't be able to use as many special attacks as a Mon Cal but their willpower will allow them to recover after battle faster.
Does anyone know the commando weapon costs off hand? Do they tend toward health, action, or mind?
i made a transhodian.
1)Easiest to get mastered unarmed.
2)The Transhodians in Dark Forces where awsome with their concussion rifle. I wish the CR was in SWG but maybe sometime in the future. the CR would be an awsome commando weapon too.
For those that dont know, by some means thatim not real sure ofthe concussion rifle fires a blast of something that looks very cool and does a lot of damage.. Based on the name id say its compressed energy being blasted at the target..but im no SW geek so i cant really say.
My commando is rodian, well, not commando yet, but will be soon, i was worried about what race will be better and such. When it comes down to it, its not that huge of a difference, granted the min's for my stamina and quickness are higher than i want them to be, they are still within respectable limits. Pick what you want to be, migrated what you think will do best, and stop worrying and kill stuff, if everyone was the same race, it would be quite boring. Thats why they made the stat migration, so you can customize your character.
I can not wear any gloves or boots due to my claws. BUT I get plus's to my unarmed attack. Being in the Empire is painful because instead of 45k for an at-st it's 90k.
The nice thing is with stat migration you can move your stats around. Where commando is concerned there is no "best" race.
Creature handler it's wookie because of the bonuses with taming. But all that does is give them a level head start.
That's what I love about this game. Do what you want. There is no major penalties. Like, oh you're a warrior? Why didn't you play an ogre since they are unstunnable. LOL, you screwed up.
I've given stats and races some thoughts as well and came to the conclusion that human was the most viable option. The minimum stats human can have is 400 which happens to be the lowest I also want to have for any of the abilities. The other races may have extra points given to some abilities but they also have a lower minimum. There is a difference in between 300 and 400 I have found and I don't feel comfortable to be below 400 at all. So it was a human that I chose. His stats, starting from heath, are 1015, 400, 400, 1035, 400, 400, 950, 400, 400.
To me, there is a difference in the race & profession combination. If I were to play a TKA, then I'd go wookie or trando. Easy choice b/c the character wouldn't need to wear armor or much. Artisans I'd go w/the loveable Calamaris etc.. Stat migration is nice but it only gets you so far.
Good topic; I'd be interested to hear more as I've just scratched the surface.
Every race has its advantages. some will perform better at some professions than others. but also consider the surprise factor in pvp of having an apparently predefined race do something totally different =p like a twilek with a beam cannon!. anyone can be anything..it all comes down to skill in the end
Trandoshan= creature handler/tka..innate bonuses aid CN and unarmed combat due to their claws. they also get extra melee toughness. penalties on some pieces of segmented armor(vary per armor type) 3x penalty faction costs with empire
Believe it or not, wookies make good riflemen, they have acess to the bowcaster..which if made with teh right materials can be more powerful than a t21. dont make a melee wookie because armor is a necessity at higher levels and this is a an issue with this race. cant wear armor cept a few wookie specific items, 3x faction penalty with empire.
Mon calamari: many say they make good riflemen..maybe so but its pretty obvious that the squiddies are born weapon crafters of the game. their innate bonuses affect weapon assembly/experimentation. can wear full armor, 3x faction cost penalty with the empire
Humans can be anything...their innate bonuses lean towards crafters or squad leaders (experimentation/leadership). can wear all armor, no penalties on faction perks
tw'lek- entertainers...they have a nice base value for action and stamina which makes them above average candidates for carbineers/ bounty hunters--BUt their innate abilities pertain only to the entertainer profession..in my opinion they should stay in the cantina heheh. can wear full armor, not sure on the high level helmets(lekku?) 2x faction perk penalty with the empire
Rodians- swordsmen/carbineers. they get 1hand bonus to defense speed and damage...and nothing else. they take best advantage of fencing. can wear full armor. 3x faction perk penalty if empire aligned.
Zabrak: the all around combat class of swg. no matter what anyone tells you this class can make a good...anything as long its a combat class. should probably give a second thought to making them riflemen as the focus cap is a bit low. but they make excellent carbineers/bhs/commandoes/TKA/ and all melee specs. Equilibrium is the single most useful innate ability in the game in combat as right now its the only way to effectively heal your mind pool. can wear full set of any armor, no faction perk penalty.
And no, don't think it will have a "larger" impact post-CU compared to now. Allthough health will be somewhat different depending on race, I primarly look towards the other bonuses if I am not choosing becouse of RP reasons.
