is there anything that drops them? have there been any legendary or exceptional ones?

I dont know of anything that specifically drops them, but there have been legendary and exceptional ones found.

News to me... wonder what kind of stats one would have... anyone confirm this?

Weaponsmiths are the only thing that I think drop Flamethrowers.

There have been numerous pics of them around. Here are some stats on them and pics:
FT number 1:
Speed: 1.9
Min dmg: 73
Max dmg: 857
Wound: 55.4%
with a DOT:
Health Poison
Strength: 359
Duration: 227
Potency: 226%
Uses: 28155

Last I heard Exceptional weapons can randomly drop from about anything, but you have better chances with higher level NPCs...There can be any number of Exceptional weapons of a specific type (like FT's) on any server...
Legendary weapons are a different story...and this is only from what I've heard...they only drop 1 of each weapon type per server and don't drop that weapon type until the previous is no more...Legendary weapons are usually looted from Legendary NPCs (like Legendary Krayt Dragons) although I've heard of people finding them on high level NS's...
I have yet to hear of an Exceptional or Legendary FT dropping on my server...Of course if one does, I more then expect anyone playing on my server to make sure their loyal and faithful Correspondent is gifted it...

*laughs* Join the club. You get used to lusting after weapons like that when you've been a Master Swordsman/Master Pikeman for long enough (have I mentioned how much I love the 3 toons per account deal on TC?) Personally, I'd settle for a bump in AP to my 2 3.1 speed FTs.

ok so they DO drop, thats all i wanted to know, well no, i actually wanted one but knowing that they exist is good enough for now.
i am enjoying commando way more than swordman or any other combat profession ive done so far (pistoleer, smuggler, swordman, some bounty hunter).

Also heh....even tho this is WAY off topic...
On the corvette in an inventory I saw an E11 Carbine that was 2.0 spd and 958-1600 dmg....
The Catch...it was when I did a loot run and was hiding in a room of 8 SBDs and 2 Novas (was on a nova)...I opened one of the nova's and nearly died when I saw that. Apparently its what the NPC or mob has equiped or can use...and not always what he drops. But hell, if he dropped that.... LOL.....(was light ap too...if it said Legendary or exceptional I wouldve tried harder to try and make it drop lol....I got two dot's on him and died 4 times trying to fetch it..)
11-14 times died that loot run....all I got was a chestplate and 2 rebel shirts heh....(last 15 mins I waited with a 100/100 rebel shirt, 45/100 rebel shirt, and 45k/45k rebel chestplate, in a loot container room with 17 SBDs around me....waited them out lol!!) That was my 2nd corvette loot run ever....my first, a few hours before....my VERY first time looting a container on the corvette....I grabbed a power plant!! And shortly after was polishing my brand new AV-21!!
