Thread: CU Commando No Specials No State effects.. Hmmm

I was planning on going commando after the CU. However, I have some concerns. Commandos get no specials at all with no state changes to targets. I guess you have to use whatever else you can to stun, dizzy, kd, posture change, or blind. After looking at the tree you can pretty much just auto attack commando since there are no specials or state changes you can place on targets.

Looking at the BH tree i see alot of different posture changes and state changing attacks. I dont know how much this is going to help in the new system. Based on the current system I am sure they will make a huge difference in combat. For this reason I am rethinking commando. If someone can please explain why commando are not given any special attack, state change, or posture change I would appreciate it. It just doesnt seem fair.

If you check the stickied weapon thread, you'll see that almost all our weapons have innate state effects and/or DOTs and AOEs. We don't need no stinkin' specials

Although if you wanted to go "shopping" for specials, you could for example take a powerful Carbineer AOE attack, use it with a Heavy Acid Rifle, and have a high-damage AOE Blind attack...

According to a post in this same forum by garvin, our specials and state effects are built into our weapons' attacks.

one thing that does concern me is the lack of the "knockdown recovery," "dizzy recovery," and "stun recovery" skills.

Hmmm, I think you missed the point.

All our specials are built into our weapons. So looking at the commando tree won't show a thing. You need to check the weapon description to get the list of specials and states applied by that weapon

Also, we can pretty much use any special from any profession we have with all our heavy weapons. Did i mention that grenades have states too

Don't judge a book by its cover go and read every page...

You get knockdown recovery at novice marksman, so we're covered there. Stun and dizzy are a problem, but as was said, you can go "shopping" for specials.

Actually, we get KD recovery via Novice Marksman & Novice Brawler (to bad they don't stack)...

And yes, most of our grenades and various weapons have state effects built in...and our FTs (notice it's plural now...yay!) take any ranged special used with them and CONVERT them into flame specials with a DoT and Area of Effect.

Do you mean only our FTs will use the specials from other trees Garvin? I was under the impression that we could use our specials from our other professions with most/all of our commando weapons.

So in order to put multiple states we have to swap weapons back and forth? I guess so far on test center I have not see states applied. I was going to take a line of pistol for the dizzy and stun recovery skill. Once we can pick professions on TC5 I will get a better idea. Grinding up commando is slow as grinding jedi right now with 700-1k xp a kill.

We will be able to us all ranged specials with all of our ranged weapons...and likewise, we will be able to use all Melee specials with our Massassi Knucklers...

What I mean is, certain weapons, like our FT, will add additional effects to the specials we use...in the case of the FT, if you use a special from Pistoleer, it wil do the same thing it's meant to do, but increase the damage to "heavy weapon level", add a Fire DoT to it, and make it an AOE...that's what I mean by taking any special and coverting it to a Flame Special...other weapons we have also have other effects that they might add to the specials but our FTs are the most obvious thanks to the DoT.
