Hi folks.
Not a Commando but thinking of becoming one, at least for a short time.
One quick question. I'm curious about the differences in Proton Grenades and Thermal Detonators.
Just curious about the average damages compareatively speaking.
As well as average cost per crate.
Thanks in advance.

I can't really tell you anything about the damage, but for the price per crate it would be best if you asked on your server's forum or trade forum because you would probably get more, better responses.

The average cost per crate is zero if your guild weaponsmith thinks you walk on water. Personaly the only use i find for grenades of anykind is to whitebar the random meatlump just beacause you can.

Wow, where do you find those grenades?
Proton Grenades 1600-2500 unsliced, unpupped
Thermal Detonators 1100-1800 unsliced, unpupped
And not sure about crates of detonators, but I know that crates of proton grenades on Starsider go for anywhere between 75-100k. As having used a friend's account to make some of these I wouldn't charge any less than 100k a crate. They take 5 factory runs to make so its near impossible to find someone who is willing to make them for you.

Damage on both Protons and Thermals is similar.
The difference lies here:
Protons: Heat, Light AP. 2800-3k max damage.
Thermals: Blast, Medium AP. (I'm not sure off-hand, I'll check ingame and edit this later)

Just checked in game, proton grenades are 1600-3200 unsliced and unpupped. Still not sure about thermal detonators, but they are a few hundred points less than the proton grenades, nothing too dramatic, but still less.

Yes, a few hundred points less.
But the Thermal has Medium AP, and the Proton has Light.
Which means that (all things being equal, and non-0% resists) the Thermal will outperform the Proton.
Some numbers (made up, but roughly correct):
Proton, 3200 max damage.
Thermal, 2700 Max damage.
Target has No Armour, but 1% Heat Resist, and 1% Blast Resist.
Proton is at +25% damage (Light AP vs No AR) = 4k Effective Max Damage
Thermal is at +56% damage (Medium AP vs No AR) = 4212 Effective Max Damage.
Target has Medium Armour,and1% Heat Resist, and 1% Blast Resist.
Proton is at -50% damage (Light AP vs. Medium AR) = 1600 Effective Max Damage.
Thermal is at normal Damage = 2700 Effective Max Damage.
All in all, the target will need to have *significantly* higher Blast Resistance than Heat Resistance to make the Proton a more viable option.
Alternatively, against a Target with 0% Blast/Heat Resistance, the AP/AR means nothing, and the Proton will do more damage than the Thermal. This is the case with Lairs.

2700 max dam on Thermals? Really, on Wanderhome I get 1800+, are you sure about that?
Are you sure that AR0 targets with blast resists is counted as it is armored, so you get the AP>AR bonus? When I have tested it looks like there is no AP bonus

Kinda going off topic here, but use guidlines like the ones above for everything. I know it sounds obvious, but it bears repeating. I do have 1 question though. Does the target have to be VULN to a damage type for you to no get any damage bonus? I say this because there are a lot of low level stuff that has stuff like AP0 special 15% blast 15% heat, Vuln to lightsaber and stun.

As Cpl_Fishers weaponsmith, I got factories going day and night for gernade manufacturing....C12's and thermals are the most popular going, and I made a ton of Protons for that water walking comando in my guild, and have decated one factory to Rocket Lainchers.......Blow it up Cpl_Fisher himself....My guildmates are armed and dangerous...I know, I arm them, and I'm dangerous........
