Thread: Why do most of the Commandos here claim they can't defeat a Bolle Bol? or 9-12 second delays?
I became Novice commando in 3 days, on fourth day I got up to flame 2 and Novice CH to help me Master Commando (Gonna drop it once Master Commando for Master Pikeman). Today (5th day), I got Flame 3, FieldTactics I (Residual XPanyhows),andTraining I, Empathy I, and Management I,andasked a person to tame a GSP for me.
Personally, when Ihit Novice Commando, I absolutely did not have any idea what to kill, or what I can kill, and lucky for me I chose Bolle Bols. They were a stroke of luck for me, as they were so easy to kill. Im just curious because Im wondering why I found it so easy and other haven't. They spawn 2 at a time, which is ideal. Also if you don't understand the "waves" and pattern they come out of their lairs with then maybe it's hard.
And the 9-12 second delay on Flame Throwers?... A childish Nerf-Fearing Myth.....Maybe at Flame Tech 1 it's possible, but that's with a REALLY crappy Flame Thrower.
Or maybe perhaps the ones that are making those false claims are dabblers? Im really starting to see why people hate these dabblers so much.....If they are dabblers then they should really keep their mouths shut and let the dedicated ones voice their opinions.
Dabblers are alot like hitchikers, they are just thereto enjoythe ride and shouldn't even be given a chance to tell the driver where to go.
Back to the Bolle Bols:
Take Bolle Bol (Colt or Stompers, whichever ones you qualify for)missions, arrive at lair,Health Shot 1(1& 2 if you got it)and Warning shot both Bols with Launcher Pistol. -Not as easy as it sounds, but nothing you haven't handled before.
Ok, for allthe new peopleout there, this technique is called the Bleeding Warning Yo-Yo, it's been around since Day 1 of retail and probably alot longer before that. Took me less than a couple days to come up with that technique on my own, and so have many other average players come up with that same technique on their own.
Now, what most DON'T know is, after a few warning shots (Usually about 2-3), Bolle Bols go intowalk mode........which then you are free to pound on them with your LP, FT, HAR...whatever, and reapply the bleed if necessary, while they walk at you 1Meter a second. - Did I alreadyknow they will go into walk mode before I started slaughtering them continuously? The answer is NO. It's called S-T-R-A-T-E-G-Y, it's a kind of a big word and could be hard for most people to understand. You mastered Marksman, you know the skills you got......What's the problem?
17,500 Combat XP for Novice Commando:
When you first go to lair, you can always risk using these moves:
HealthShot, Throw a C12 Grenade and pray it hits, Warning shot if you're quick enough, which I alwaysdid. Oooor, if you're more patient than meyou can wait till they're in walk mode, then bleed them and immediately hit them with a nade, if you miss keep chuckin em till one hits, then wait them out and repeat till they're dead........about 1.5k Combat Xp, sure beat 10-50 CXP huh?
The Warning Yo-yo works for these guys, and don't give up if you die once or twice or 5 times, im telling you it works.....if you do die, then try doing things differently, start firing from a farther distance, use warning shot as soon as they get to 64m when they're running back at you, move around....Think!!!... I have died a couple times when I just wasn't on the ball, or bad night and Launcher Pistol just wanted to miss every shot, or the first few warning shots were ineffective, keep persistence.
I'm sure I gotNovice Commando after the big patch so the 2.5x melee damage modifier applied to me already...oh! Another myth: Bolle Bols incapping you in 1-2 hits....PURE, BULL(Insert word here). on unlucky nights when warning yo yo fails I get incapped in, a good 5-10 hits......Be smart, if they come up close to you and start hackin at you with their teeth and claws, switch weapons and run, and continue warning shots! Common sense, no? I believe the LP doesn't give me 2.5x melee modifier either...but I may be wrong.
I can write a whole dammn guide on this, lol. Anyhows, im extremely sorry if parts seemed like rants (Except for the dabbler parts, I really do mean what I say, other than that I don't mind dabblers) but im just trying get my voice out in the Commando Forums.......I've been to alot of professions.......Hell I was even bored enough to MASTER Image Designer.....gawd....
FYI, my Commando character of mine I am referring to in entire post:
Commando: 1/0/3/0
Marksman: 4/4/4/4
Brawler:4/0/0/0
Scout: 4/0/4/0 (To be dropped once I need SP for Pikeman)
CH: 0/1/1/1 (To be dropped once I need SP for Pikeman)
Medic: 0/0/0/0 (To be dropped once I need SP for furtherCH)
Entertainer: 0/0/0/0 (To be dropped once I need SP for further CH)
P.S. If ANYONE tells you that Commando is hard to XP, they are completely and utterly lying. Trykilling a Chuba or Gnort with a T-21, then with a Flame Thrower or HAR..... T-21= 1 Rifle XP, Flame Thrower= 100-147 Heavey Weapons XP.......wow......that's a big difference..........So Commando is not hard at all what so ever to XP in.
PS.S. Sorry for long post....Just waiting for the stupid servers to come back up...
maybe I just haven't been paying attention lately, but all the bolle bol nests I saw today between four and 6 wandering around.....spoooooky.
I like pie
yarr.
Man, where's the EDIT button? Anyhows, if anyone is also on Tempest I will be more than glad to take you out to Endor and show you how you can do this too. I have helped a couple people already =0).
Contact is Ryuten, which isalso in my Signature anyway...
For22-23 difficulty missions, take 4200-4300 credit missions for bolle bol Colts. For 24-25 difficulty missions, take 4500-4600 credit missions for Bolle Bol Stompers.......all the lairs assigned to you in this manner will have 2 Bolle Bols only, I guarantee it..........If im wrong you can cut my little wee-wee off... =0)
RyushiYoshi:
I will give you the answers to your questions...
Why do Commandos have no chance against Bolle Bols ?
The answer is rather easy. If you get hit for 400 to 600 damage a hit and you have to wait another 11 seconds for your next shot, thenyou are simply incapped and had the chance to only injure 2 of them (first spawn). After you came up, you do the same thing with the second spawn. You do the same thing with the third spawn - DEAD. Mission s till not done, commando dead. This is of course if all Flamecones hit and only if you have Flamecone at all. Using a launcher pistol your are toast before you get off your second warning shot.
A sidenote: We are talking about Commandos. We are NOT talking about Creature handlers, we are not talking about Pikemen, we are not talking about TKA. We are talking about Commandos and Commandos have no chance against these Beasts.
Where comes the myth of the 8-15 seconds delay from?
Even easier to answer then your former one: from reality. You stated only a crappy Flamethrower has such delays. Okay, now here goes my list:
Stats of a Good Flamer: 450-840 dmg, 4.8 spd
Now we will take the 2 extremes:
35% Damage Slice(FTD): 607-1.134 dmg, 4.8 spd
35% Speed Slice (FTS): 450-840 dmg, 3,2 spd
the damage sliced Flamer (FTD), using Flamesingle 2, Flamecone2 has an 11 second delay at Flamethrower4/Master
the speed slice Flamethrower (FTS)has a 7.2 second delay.
so, given the best slice possible on speed, you would still be stuck at7.2 second delay at master. This is at least 4 hits from an opponent (as you already were in melee range when you used your specials). Averaging 400 to 600 damage a hit, you would have to endure 1.600 to 2.400 damage until you can fire again. You <cannot send in a pet, as the commandi will wait to cycle through the combat queue. This basically means, you have no chance to avoid getting incapped (epecially not with the armor hole atm).
As you can easily see, you have to take CH as a commando to be able to go against any decent MOB. As a lot of people simply do not want to be forced to use creatures, as they think there are already too many creatures in the game and this was not what they wanted to be as a commando (commando, not K-9), Commandos in itselfself are now unfit to go hunting and earn money bt still have the moste expensive equipment of all professions.
And just for your information, i am CH as well and was CH long before the introduction of the melee penalty. But at least i respect those who do not want to be CH.
This is a sign of compassion i missed in your post. Now step back down from your high horse and behave like a human.

This walking after warning shotted 3 times sounds like a bug/exploit and has a high probabliity of being fixed.
I am a commando 3340. I have found thatmy ability to stand in the frey like i use to is nearly impossible when going against any mob that is capable of inflicting anythingmore thanlight to moderate melee damage. I am not a CH. I have done what all commandos have done and become very good at. Adapting. The mobs of choice for me and my friends for xpsare Torturs and Huf Duns on Talus. These are moderately powerful mobs with a Bull of either species giving close to 3000xps. Both species now BaF when they are attacked. Soloing use to be realitively easy to do. Now after the latest nerf soloing is still possible but it is no longer a walkin the park.
I can no longer simply walk up to the beast hit it with Flame 2 and then just tank shooting it with my normal FT shots. I now go out to the 64m range and fire my FT at a targeted beast. At this range i am able to get off at least 2 or 3 shots before they are on me. With the lack of accuracy of the weapon i usually get a hit 50% of the time. This weakens the beast and as it enters the range of my specials i fire Flame 2. I immediately switch to my launcher pistol, go to auto run, and circle the beast. My accuracy suffers some but so does the beast's. I watch my health for the 8-9 second specials cool down. If i am injured (always) i hit peace and heal while on the run. 75-80% of the time a normal Tortur is downed when i hit it with the flame 2 and 40 -50% of the time the Bulls are taken down immediately as well. IF more than one of these attack i concentrate on the lead beast and when the creatures arrive I Flame Cone them and use the same procedure. I am definitely getting incapped about 35% more often...duh....but i am still not dying that often.
I find this is a successful procedure and does not force me to simply be a glorified master marksman nor am i simply a support class chararacter as some have spouted on these threads. I run with my Launcher pistol in hand to keep the AI from going melee on me and to avoid the 2.5xmodifier.I switch to the FT when the opportunity presents itself. I am in no way happy with the changes to my class nor are my friends for whom i use to tank and take the damage but i want to contiue to play a commando and be an effective warrior so i have to adapt and so do my friends.
Like other commandos i have at times let my emotions get the best of me and spouted angry things on this forum for which i apologize. We need to keep a positive attitude and move on. The people in the game is the thing. I hope this helps.
There is two things I agree with you:
1) The Commando profession is the easiest to Master once you are a Novice (to get Master Marksman took forever). You get great experience on anything you kill because of the amount of damage that you can cause, which is what exp is based on.
2) Strategy, very important when fighing solo. You dont pick a fight with something that can kill you at the sound of your first shot.
What I dont agree with:
1) You basicly say I have to use my pistol and probably use skill points in another profession to be proficient at being a Commando. What if I dont want to use my pistol? Oh well sorry you have to in order to play Commando or you die. That makes no sense. Thats like saying you have to be a Creature Handler to survive in this game, which is the direction this game is going. If I wanted to use a pistol I would have become a gunfighter pure and simple.
2)Killing Bolles is all good, but I like to go to different planets and earn real money. And by the way, are you saying I now can only solo mobs that are not pack hunters?I got incapped within three hits on Dath, true hard planet but come on I could solo Endor before the patch now I'm out their with newbs killing Worts. I'm also forced to use my pet for everything. I havent tried Warning shoton humanoid mobs but does iteven work on them? I just fought 3 at once and got d/b inabout 6-8hits. Funny, prepatch if they were light blue I could look at them and they would die. Now I burst run on anything that agros me when I dont have my pet out.
The complaint everyone has is that we should at least be able to stand against a womp rat, I got incapped yesterday by one and it wasn't funny. Commandos are supposed to be elite fighters but have less defense than a novice Medic, that just doesn't make sense. And by the way I am a dabbler, not because I dont have the skill points but because of these nerfs that keep happening to every profession in each patch. I think being a dabbler is best in this enviroment, that way I can go with the flavor of the month everytime I'm nerfed.

Novice Commando (1/4/4/0) / Novice Creature Handler (3,2,1,3) / Novice Medic - Future Politician to veto Nerfs
I have no problem with the post, or with the responses. (Personally, I have an 8 second delay when I use specials with my speed sliced Flamethorwer (and mine is on the high end of what's available on Chilastra), if I use my damage sliced flamethrower, the delay is closer to 12 seconds).
One thing though, the bolle bols walking after a few warning shots is a bug. They actually fixed it once before, asn00b marksmenwith warning shot soloing Fambaa in the early days, and they didn't like that. I didn't realize it was back...or maybe they failed to fix it across the board.Anyway, I don't think the fact that we can use the bug to our advantage is evidence that the melee modifier is okay.Anyone with Ranged Support 3 and a CDEF pistol can presumably use the same bug, and just wait for "walk-mode" to kick in.
I agree that in the face of the melee modifier we have to adapt, though, and yo-yo'ing is a decent fall back...though it would make me feel like a n00b again. That said, since the patch , I'm hardpressed to find a situation where it's ever a good idea to use my Flamethrower. The Flame DoT is nice, but using it seems to run at least a 50% chance of incap against anycreature strong enough to warrant using it. Moreover, even in my quirkiest of moods I have now forever written off the HAR (as pre-patch I liked using an acid special every dozen or so shots, just for variety and to make some use of that skill tree).
It's only been in group situations where I was willing to risk incap/death for the good of the group that I've been using flame specials. As much as I hate to admit it, that makes me an in-game suicide bomber (at least "Suicide-Bomber" is a better title for those who have the tree than "Grenadeer")
So, while the melee damage bug has led to a much greater use of my grenades and limited-use heavy weapons, it's led to a sharp decline in my use of the Flamethrower, and the complete elimination of my ever using the HAR (and I was already in thetiny minority in using that weapon).
On the plus side, I've seen Commandos dropping the profession in droves...so it seems to me that the days of the "dabbler" are over. On the down side,Crazed Durnisnow frighten me unless I have friends around.
Jeren Sehn--Master Commando
Wearing full composite armor with 71% kinetic resists I get incapped before I can fire a special again.
Or dead.
Either way I'm crippled.
The only weapon that works is suicide to use.
LP I have no damage specials to use with.
HAR is broken.
I can't afford to burn through heavy weapons.
Shrug. Guess I'll go visit all the static sites in game.
Lord knows I can't fight anymore.
Ivoni,
Don't be discouraged bro'. We are going to fight through this. I have found that we are still extremely effective with the FT. We have to juke the AI a little more. I run with the launcher in hand to keep the AI off balance and not automatically enter into melee when the mob sees me. I switch to the FT to do ranged attack and specials when they get in range ( either fairly or due to warping ). I then switch to the pistol again and then I get mobile to try to survive the 8-9 second cool down. Peace, Stims, wash and repeat.
It sux that I have to use non commando tactics to survive but.... I know you know this stuff and i do not presume to tell you anything about the class. But pleasedon't get too down 'cuz the Commandos need you watchin' our backs. ![]()
I run around with my LP in hand.
My macro equips the flame, /aim, /flamesingle2, and then unequips it.
Only problem is that for the next 8 seconds I'm still holding the flamethrower to the game.
But at least the NPC does pull out his melee and charge me.
