Thread: 100% Heat Resist
Exactly... The DOT will still tick on Rancors or any other creature/being with 100 % heat resists.

Someone remind me..I always get this mixed up (and I can't log into the game for a few more hours)...does our FT's do heat damage or fire damage?
I ask because I keep seeing posts like this come up in various places and people think that 100% heat resistent is the same as 100% fire resistent. I know there is a difference. I have several mods the fire resistence and I've seen Heat &/or Fireresistent NPCs.
So which type of damage do we do...I ask because in some arguments people are upset that there pet is 100% heat resistent and taking damage from us...while others are upset that their pet is fire resistent and taking damage from us...which is right?
I know the whole resistance thing is bugged, but which type do we actually do?
garvin you know i have seen this to latly on alot of mobs is it new
my gess is that are forst attak is heat and the dot is flame so if i were to hit a 100% heat risiten mob i do no dam but dot would kill it but if i were to attack a flame restient mob my attack do full dam but my dot wouldint do as much
Maddog I think you are right. I havent been paying much attention to resistances as of late and I dont remember seeing any specifically with "fire" resistance. Last I checked our FT's did heat damage. I think Im gonna log in right now and check ![]()

Interesting...I bring it up because lately I have found tons of armor attachments with fire resistance +1 or 2, etc...like poison resistence, but for fire...So I wonder if eventually, when resistances start working properly, if thise "fire resistence" mods will be used against our FTs....
yup just checked... Heat damage.

Yes it's heat dmg that the FT does.
And it is a well known fact in the game... ANY form of "damage over time" effect will completely and utterly ignore ANY AND ALL resists and armor.
This is why killing a Rancor with a flamethrower is possible. I have a buddy that's been hunting rancors with us... using an FT... getting little or 0 xp simply because he's not actually doing it damage lol...Never the less killing it with the DOT.... which doesn't actually count as dmg done per se.
Hands down right now this is what makes TKA/Commando terribly powerfull in PVE... All you have to do is get the DOT laid down, then unarm and just wait for the DOT to kill the creature(s) for you. And the DOT will kill ANYTHING.... except maybe droideka's... for whatever reason these bastards seem unusually resistant to fire dot's. They do land......but it takes a few tries it seems.
TKA weakness is lack of any other dmg type other than kinetic (range doesn't really make a difference in most PVE). Because of that limitation is one of the reasons (other than ham special costs) that really keep the TKA profession in check....
But put a weapon that will do huge amounts of dmg while ignoring armor and resists... Now you've got TKA on crack...
God I loved that combo. I have a good chuckle at the doc/tka's that think they are special..... buffs?? who needs them ![]()
TKA can last in a fight an amazingly long time whenthey're not killingthemselves with specials ![]()
Ya the funny thing with killing rancors with a flamethrower. If you just hit them with flame specials and run away, when the beast finally keels over you get a messege saying " You do not have permission to loot this corpse" hehe pretty funny actually. Seeing that only the DOT did damage and you yourself did not. All you need to do ( If commando was your only combat profession ) after the flame DOT is applied, whip out that trusty LP and go to town.. Rancors are not big fans of blast damage anyway.
And Garvin, interesting fact about the Fire resist mod stuff you have been finding. Maybe the devs have figured out a way to nerf.. err I mean fix our flamethrowers ( not that it needed to be changed in my eyes ) by adding a new type of "damage". Very interesting. I am curious to see how it will flesh out.
