Hey cyrom...
I could do better than the people running SOE.

Oh, by the way, I actually do believe that - I have B.S. in Business Management and more than enough programming and gaming knowledge to at least understand the devs and the community. I also have something called "common sense" and that dictates that when 70%-80% of the people that play this subscription based game (i.e. - my CUSTOMERS) hate the changes that I propose, I at least consisider not making them. I think that the thing missing from SOE's management of SWG is that layer of common sense in the managerial decision making process.
Who knows, I've been told I'm a pretty crazy guy though, maybe that's shining through.

Actually that's not a half bad idea. Since SOE believes the current system is so broken is must be entirely replaced, why don't they just release the code currently on live when the CU hits? It's garbage and totally outdated, in their opinion, and who wants to hold onto outdated garbage? So, give it to us, let those of us with programming, design and admin experience run an emulator server off the "defective" code for our own enjoyment.
Anybody have an opinion on what would be the most popular server around if that ever happened? The current devs understand coding. They understand game design theory as taught by the schools, and they understand marketing.
But they don't understand how to play the game. I be willing to bet not a single Dev has ground a character up to 250 skill points from scratch with no magic, behind the scenes slash commands to ease their suffering in leaps and bounds.
Obviously it's just a pipe dream but it is fun to imagine what it would be like.

its not SOE mandating the changes folks, its Lucas Arts.
these changes come down from on high and SOE cant do ANYTHING about the fact we dont like it.
When Lucas Arts says "JUMP MOFO", you can bet SOE breaks intotheir jack rabbit impression.

I do not for once belive that LA dictated that they put in the colored icons. I do not belive they dictated that they remove crafting from doc/CM. I do not belive they dictated alot of the details that went into the CU. They may have dictated the overall design, but the details are still up to SOE.

Acutally...
That's a REALLY good idea!
Get them to give us the source, heck, raise a fund to BUY the source code. Then we sit in some person's basement, get a really nice server, and set up our own SWG game. Course, we'd probably need a liscence from Lucas Arts, and from SOE, but hey, money goes a long way...
Then again, we could always MAKE an MMORPG, either coding it completely ourselves or using something like Realm Crafter: http://www.realmcrafter.com/pages/user/
