Thread: Wookies and commandoes don't mix?

I read that being a wookie and going for commando isn't the best idea because wooks can't wear armor. Any truth to this? If so, that sucks. I've been working towards Commando since my first day playing (maxed out unarmed before any other skill got one block) but I never considered how my race would affect my profession. I'm currently working on my 40k combat exp, would suck to have to give up my commando goal...

Don't let that stop you. I am a Trando commando and i don't wear armor at all. I prefer to go with the jungle Cammo look. I find that armor really doesn't make that much of a difference anyway. So go with what you wanted to be and don't worry, you'll do fine.

You don't wear armor? Don't ever face me in PvP then.

I walked into the Imp Recuiter base near Bestine and flamesingle1'd a guy for 1k damage. No armor = One dead Imp. The ones that had armor actually were a challenge, ESPECIALLY if I missed my fs1 shot. (Had that happen more than once!)

Armor is a bigger deal than you think. W/o armor you will drop fast in PvP and in high lvl PvE. Also our specials are not HAM intensive to use your specials as other professions (TKA for example). I wear a full suit of unsliced Ubese and don't any trouble fighting in groups. If you can keep yourself from getting hit have no armor is nice because your regen can keep up with your HAM usage making downtime nonexistant. Commando's have the luxery of using armor because of non-intensive HAM usage with specials. They do kind of need it since their main weapons are mostly effective at close range. As a wookie you should invest heavily in spice and food... probably a good idea to make friends with a Doctor for buffs because you will be taking FULL damage from everything. Otherwise don't expect to last longer than 10 seconds in PvP.

I think that not being able to wear armor is a huge disadvantage for commandos. Commandos cant spam specials so encumbrance for armor doesn't really effect you that much. With the long delays after specials all you can really do is run around and when you counting down the 10-15 secs waiting to fire off another round every extra bit of protection helps.

I think wookiee commandos should receive the title of berserker.

Thanks for all the excellent posts regarding the use of armor. I am still thinking like a TKA, which i am first and foremost (2 boxes from master), where the use of armor was a killer due to high HAM costs on specials. After these posts i am thinking about getting a nice set and putting it up on the toolbar for that special occasion.

Well this sucks. Thanks for the info guys, now I'm not sure what to do anymore. Maybe the life of a creature handler is the life for me after all. *grumbles*

Don't be frustrated. I'm a wookie commando - just 3 boxes from master and I haven't had any problems playing PvE. In fact, I seem to have better look then all of my friends do surviving encounters. It all depends on the type of character you play. Other than the occasional IMP base destruction, I don't play much PvP. I'm more concerned with seeing the sights and hearing the sounds of the SWG universe., so I wander from planet to planet. If you want the ultimate death dealing killing player character, then yes, wookie probably isn't they best choice.

As far as I'm concerned the majority of players are one dimensional, all they want to do is PvP, so they buff up on 1 to 2 professions that can kill quickly. To me that is boring, the game offers so much more than that, otherwise the developers would have given us one planet with one city on it.

Dogblack,

I'm a Wookie Commando and I make up for the lack of armor by using a Shield Generator. I have a guy who can make up to 50% Resists on them for a MK 3. He can also experiment so that the Resists are higher vs the secondary attack forms instead of Energy. I've survived direct hits from an AT-St wearing a shield and it hitting my weakest HAMS pool. We are viable but we have to be a little more careful.

Don't forget the PSG's. They have numerous bugs (shifting resists, cutting off when crossing server boundries, etc.) but when they work they're marvelous. Low resists (15-20) on everything with energy being around 30-40, AR Light, and wearable by everyone.

Okay, I guess with shields and some smarts I can do all right after all. I'll continue along my hard path towards master commando; I can always change into something else if need be...
