Thread: 2.5X dmg work-a-round (macro included)...

So you say you take 2.5X dmg when holding your Flame Thrower...well the long ass delay we have can be used to your advantage...only use the FT when it is able to fire....

Equip your launcher pistol and put your launcher pistol in the first slot of your toolbar and your FT in the second slot...make this macro

/healthshot2;
/attack;
/pause 3;
/ui action toolbarSlot01;
/flamesingle2;
/pause 2;
/ui action toolbarSlot00;

what this does is bleed shot your target...then goes into normal attack...switches to your FT does your fire dot...then switches back to your launcher pistol....when your launcher pistol starts to fire again...fire off the macro again...map the macro to a key stroke for easy access... by using this macro you take very little 2.5X dmg cause you very seldom have the FT equipped...

anybody have a better way of doing this? this is just me making this up last night...have not tested it very much...

I have done something like this... For a standard fight against a mob in PVE:

/ui action toolbarSlot20; (Equip Launcher Pistol)
/healtShot2;
/ui action toolbarSlot21; (Equip FT)
/flameSingle2;
/ui action toolbarSlot20; (Return to LP)

Now... there are issues with this type of macro. First, if you have someone else tanking (say a group buddy, non-CH pet or a regular CH pet), then you can modify the macro to do a flamesingle2 and a flamecone2, with their ensuing delays, and be safe from the damage modifier (as long as the mob is not hitting you, if he is you are toast).

Also, since combat can, at times, be very dynamic, I would also suggest that you keep your specials accessible from the toolbar, that way allowing you to have more control over the battle.

It wont work because you take the 2.5x damage from the time you equip the Ft til the time the "cool down" period ends, so even if unequipped you take 2.5x damage for 8-11 seconds no matter what, the onlt thing thats subjective is the 8-11 seconds, that depends on your skill and FT.

Indeed that is true. I guess the point is to remember to switch to the LP as soon as possible, once you see the mob is about to get in melee range.

Not trying to knock it, I know its just someone trying to help, but I feel I should point out that if you are using a special with the FT on a MOB you already are in melee range.

The "you cannot do anything during the cooldown" is a misconception. Switching to the LP. or unarmed even, during the cooldown eliminates the 2.5x modifier 99% of the time. Message me if you want about 200,000 characters of logs that I have demonstrating that I am telling the truth. Or search for my thread where I posted about soloing pikets.

Bikebum has shown his numbers. We know he can back up his statements. If you think somthing else is going on then show the numbers to support your position. Posting what "you think" is happening or what "seems to be happening" is not helping anyone.

It may be that there is some bug that doesnt allow people to switch. I have never had a problem and have been doing the switch since the patch. Day 1 of the patch I was commando 0440 with no TKA and I didn't have a problem. Now I am further up the TKA trees and I pretty much am back to being able to do anything I was able to do pre-patch. The only catch I run into is when I have more than 1 high HAM mob on me and no pet. I am basically forced to melee and use PL since it is hard to get a good /flamesingle off without getting killed. I used to be able to just flamecone and grunt my way through the damage.

Back to the 2.5x mod... if you just can't get around it, maybe try and /bug with some logs attached. There is a bug tool in your swg folder on your HD that can send the /bug with attachments (the in game one is just typed text). You could also email bugs to them. As far as seeing when someone changed weapons, well for my logs it is obvious... i go from being hit for 500 (FT equipped), to 200 (PL equipped), or 100 (unarmed). You can also tell by the combat messages you get since your FT is going to be hitting for 800+ and your PL in the 200's.

If you want to run tests, I would suggest getting some stims and finding a blue con mob (to FT) that does not deathblow and is melee only. Go out and turn /log on, walk up to a mob, /flamesingle it and unequip to unarmed before you get hit (make sure you are standing with armor on!), wait out the dot to kill it and watch your damage. Test #2 on same type mob: autofire with FT on mob until it closes with you, /flamesingle, after 1 hit with FT equipped switch to unarmed and wait out dot till mob is dead. You should be able to track where your damage goes down from unequipping the FT. The reason I say go unarmed is because it shows a distinctive "you swing at" message for when you start attacking which will make it evident that you switched.

One last comment. My success rate on landing my flamesingles went up a ton once I got Flame 3. If you are compairing my data to a novice commando, well, that may be a bad example. I could see a serious problem arising if my first /flamesingle2 on each mob did not land. Having to attempt to fire off another special once a mob is mad at you would be suicide. All I can say is keep trying. Heck, I used my PL almost exclusively until I got to flame 3 since my FT was so inaccurate. I did have some pistoleer skills back then though.

LOL let your bro suffer instead of you. I see your point as I would hate for them to hotfix it so you truely could do nothing until the cooldown was over. Knowing the way things are, they would prob hotfix so that as soon as you do a commando special you get the same effects on you as KD and dizzy. Can't run, can't hide, can just lay down and die.
