Using a launcher pistol, what kind of xp will I get?

Will skills mods obtained from Pistoleer help with launcher pistol?

you will get heavy weapons xp with a launcher pistol although it counts as a pistol when considering specials and modifiers.

basically i dream of a game system that does not need to help NPCs by giving them ungodly amounts hitpoints, resistances and damage, where there is no need for special damage reductions in PvP...

Oh? I'm just beginning my commando quest (in spite of the upcoming changes...I haven't PvP'd at all yet). So the bleed shot from marksman works with a Launcher Pistol? And the pointblank multi-target attack? If so, I'm very happy!

Do the rifle specials from the marksman tree work with the Heavy Acid Rifle? Do the carbine specials from the marksman tree work with anything in the commando tree?

nope, the har only has its specials, no others. the LP is the only weapon that gets specials from other professions.

It is good too that the LP gets those specials, since you don't learn any new specials for it...

I found this funny little thing with the launcher pistol. If you use /pistolmeleedefence on a mob, the damage you do is given in pistol xp. Wierd.

One can use suppression specials from the marksman tree on LP, FT, and the HAR

I used to be a commando, and it always bothered me that a Pistol (read: sidearm) is a commando weapon but not a Carbine (read: Assault Rifle). Why not a Launcher Carbine? now THAT'd be cool.

not only the suppression specials from the ranged support line. you can also use the novice and master marksman specials with those weapons. (though i dont advise to use overcharge2 with a heavy weapon - it will lose several points of durability each shot)
