Anyone have any tips including what critters to hunt, what weapon to use at what time, what trees to get first...

Any information would be great.

no matter what anyone says, the launcher pistol is RUBBISH for leveling. My advice to you; Buy some crispic or citros cake (plus accuracy), then go to talus (if the spawn rate is fixed on your server, i dunno) find giant dalyrakes (or the next best if Talus is a ghost planet on corbantis), get out your flame, attack the lair and use point blank on them lotsas soon as they are allattacking you. A lot of people forget about PBA and PBS as well as the otherrngd support moves but they are very useful. Using this tactic i got level 1 in flamethrower unbuffed in under 2 hours.

Then level up flamethrower. Lots.

My personal method was Launcher pistol with Health Shot 1 to get xp for Flamethrower 1 and 2 (and about 1/2 of 3 before I just got sick of the thing) then grabd my Flamethrower and havn't put it down since, once ya get flame 3 you will be smooth sailing. But if what BRAYNEDRAYNE says is true and the ranged support abilites work for flamethrowers then that may just be a viable alternitive (this is the first time I have heard of those abilites working for the Flamethrower, is this true? I have to find out later). I did max flamethrower, max Heavy Wep, max Acid rifle in that order with the combat xp line thrown in as I got the Xp. But after maxing Flamethrower it dosn't really matter what ya get next (I got heavy weps next just because I love messing with them, they may not be cost effective to use all the time but for the ocational pop shot I still get a kick out of 'em)

As for mobs, I did mostly missions on Dantooine with a bit of on and on factional missions when I got board. Just got buffs and some brandy and was ready to grind. Was slow getting to Flamethrower 3, but once I got it it took almost no time to max the 3 Heavy Weapons trees (the combat tree was a bit harder for obvious reasons but with the now much talked about nade tricks (check the Force Sensitive forums for more info) it's reletivle simple to max that in no time, just be warned that doing this will prove VERY expansive in both nade costs and armor cost as you will be decimating your armor with this trick, it's up to you if it is worth grinding it fast and losing alot of money or at normal pace and gaining money).

You will find what is best/most fun for you real fast, just mess around and try a few things. I loved my trip through commando, hope yours is as fun as mine was.

I agree with Brayne, I didnt use the LP to get my Commando, but i used different tactics as well. If u intend to get something else to compliment yer commando Its my opinoin u get it first, if u havnt alrdy, then goto Dant and hunt Quenkers, or Huurtons, or even Seething Bols (which always give u max XP but they disease so unless u have meditate or can afford to always get the disease resist, or can heal it yerself, u may not like the Bols) I grinded it out with Huurtons and Bols mostly to keep a good change between what i fought so as not to get to bored. With the FT on Bols, u rarely miss, and hit them extremely hard. Thats my opinoin tho. Take it or leave it, Braynes advice is good as well.

For the record, Goal, yes this is true. I have talked to only a couple commandos that knew about it tho. I never use it because I havnt figured out a good tactic to get it to work. Very nice tho when u can change yer opponentsstance with yer FT. Good stuff

yup all the generic ranged attacks work with commando weapons. This means we get an often ignored area attack with a TINY speed modifier (I dont notice any diff between PBA and a regular attack, it is also outstandingly accurate), a posture down attack, an accurate point blank attack and a confuse shot.

I'd have to agree with everyone on this thread who said the launcher pistol is rubbish... even at novice commando i didn't feel it worked better then the FT, when both were using specials...

What you wanna do is take FT or HAR to lvl 4, then bring up the other one (my HAR is EXACTLY like my FT, cept no dot and less lag ) then bring up heavy weaps.. and all the while the tactics will follow.

Thats how i did it purly because of the lag issue, when i was racin' up FT i had friends who i would lag out with a coule shot... and i couldn't hunt with them

The heavy weaps are good when they hit... because they expand your choices of damage type

And recentlly people are going absolutly crazy over grenades... They have no specific classification, so niether does their xp, so when ever you kill somthing with it you get combat xp, + your regular combat xp that you usually get. Poeple LOVE this because it makes lvling in combat xp 5x easier, and now during the jedi Trials, you can trade combat xp for force xp with a ratio of 3:1 instead of a certain weapon xp e.g. pistol, for 30:1.

Hmmm... the HAR is really rubbish... the ONLY good thing about it is no lag, but ive never, ever gotten FT or LP lag and my computer is not all that great. Never underestimate the flamer DOTs. they do almost as much damage as your actual attacks.

I ground through Commando at the Narglatch cave on Naboo. That was a long time ago though, before solo groups and buffs.

My personal grinding slaves were the squills on tatooine. If I was lucky, I would catch it when few people were there, and I just ran the continuous circuit killing all in my path. They supposedly had reasonably high heat tolerance, but I had little to no difficulty dispatching them quickly with the flamethrower, especially once I picked up Flame 2 and Cone 2. I mastered the entire profession in this way, in a reasonably short time frame. They don't always give max xp, but they make up for it in ease of killing and sheer numbers. Plus, its always fun to end a fight and have 15 dead squills in a circle around you. BTW... if you are a faction farmer, nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to a good flamethrower (at least at master commando!) I spent an entire buff a few weeks back running a constant triangle between 3 rebel bases and never once found myself in any trouble. In fact, anything less than the generals would usually die in the first flamecone2 salvo. This also leaves a nice screenshot opportunity.I lovethe smell of 30 burnt Rebels in the morning!

Burn them Rebs! Ha ha ha. Always good for kicks I like to get 30 or more chasing me flame cone em, get knocked down all that good stuff. It's always fun and that's what keeps me a commando a lot of the times. Rocket Launchers can be fun to use on them too.

If you have at least novice pistoleer, go with the LP until box 2 or so. At that point you can run around and just flamesingle everything.
