Thread: Garvin, do you still believe this?

You posted this on the 15th of December

*****************************************************************************************

So by all of that, I could see the CU hitting live, at the latest, by the end of April

*****************************************************************************************

Now that we have 3 businessdays (counting today) left in January and the Sandbox STILL has not started, do you think that this is still a reasonable estimate?

When SOETyrant posted this:

****************************************************************************************

More details on the Combat Upgrade will be coming out in January as we enter the alpha testing phase of that development.

****************************************************************************************

I agreed with you, but now that it seems that without an act of god, we will not see the SANDBOX starttill febuary. What ever happened to the SANDBOX starting right after the holidays?

What is SOE's new excuse for this delay?

Last time they blamed the testers, who are they going to blame now?

Themselves.

The second statement so far has remained fairly true...as they did release info when they promised it, the sandbox however did not start...but there is still time for that to be true. To us, Jan 31st is NOT "starting in january"...to the devs, it is...

The first statement could be true...

IF lets say the Sandbox starts Jan 31st....two weeks of alpha testing (or 3 for good measure)...that still leaves 1.5 months of Beta testing until April - much longer than the JTL Beta testing. It really all depends on when the sandbox comes out. And if the sandbox comes out in February, then they can only blame themselves as it would most likely involve a hardware delay in converting the other TC's to CURB testing.

Just let them get on with it and stop moaning. Posts like this achieve nothing except to further the divide between Devs and players.

At least they have rolled out quite a few nice changes and fixes recently. Be grateful for that.

YEAH, they COULD start it in the next 3 days but I frank don't believe that they will.

After 2 months of saying they are about to start , I have become jaded.

TH posted this on 04 NOV 04 in his "What is going on with combat?" post:

****************************************************************************************

Initial alpha testing will start in a few weeks.

*****************************************************************************

What is your defination of a few? Mine is a number alot smaller then 12 for sure, closer to 4-8.

12 being the number of weeks it will be since that post next week.

Maybe he meant it will start in a few months?

WHAT CHANGES HAVE THEY MADE TO COMMANDO?

The changes they have made FAIL to address the CORE problems in SWG. While i like the fact they are making some changes, I want them to get working on the CURB.

That is more important then you having to wait for a shuttle or making politician cost 0 SP.

Agreed nothing has been done to commando and the shuttle and politican changes are nothing major ... however I would say the below fixes / improvements alone warrant giving the devs some slack

Fixed a problem where warcry would stack multiple times.
Fixed faction base vulnerability bug
Force Meditate now clears on all server transitions and login
Imperial crackdown presence has had their firepower DRAMATICALLY increased
Krayt Dragon Population boom!

Also, would you rather they rushed out the CURB to keep people happy or they delayed it and made sure that they do a proper job. The curb will either see the death of SWG or bring it new life. I for one would rather they take longer and do a proper job than rush it out and have it solve nothing.

How long would you give them? A YEAR? 15 MONTHS?

Well we have. Wanting them to get it right doesn't grant them a blank check on time.

I was wrong in my previous post, TH posted that it would start in a few weeks on 28 OCT 04. That makes friday the 12 week mark.

I do like some of the changes but the warcry bug and the bases are them just fixing things they messed up NOT IMPROVEMENTS.

At the end of the day, if your not enjoying the game, dont play it. If you are, then im sure you can wait with the rest of us. I want the CURB as much as you do but i still enjoy the game and will only quit when i stop enjoying the game. Regardless of what the devs do or say.

It's not so much as rushing the Combat Rebalance out to the live servers... it's just getting started on the Sandbox to test things out. The testers will need serious time to find as many issues as possible. The devs then need to make fixes & tweaks based on tester feedback. Repeat cycle.

That process alone will take some time at least if we're concerned about quality.

Another reason for the irritation of the Sandbox delay: How long have we been waiting for the Combat Rebalance/Revamp? How long have we been waiting for the GCW Revamp? IMO, what we received in place of these two crucial and extensive revamps isn't good to go.

You posted a statement that in essence told me to stop whining and be thankful for what the DEV's have given.

That is something i will NOT do until they have fixed combat like they promised to. I never said i didn't enjoy SWG. It is because I enjoy it and see the awesome potential that this game has that I care about them fixing combat and I post about it.

I want my investment in commando to be worth the time and skill points I invested. Right now it is not.

Agreed the testers need time to test things.... but.... the devs need time to make the changes that need to be tested ! You cant sandbox what hasnt been written. And you cant sandbox half of a complete combat system change.

This is what makes it worse... the testers know of some of the upcoming fixes, but due to the NDA, can't put the information out. The devs are nervous about putting out the fabled docs since it will be thought of as a word-for-word promise. Anything straying from that and some players will be asking for a series of crucifixions. Players who have been waiting and waiting (and waiting even more for the SWG Beta/Release players). And as we agree, even when the Sandbox hits, it'll take time before it hits Live.

The devs have gotten themselves into this mess. I hope this game can see redemption. I want to play in another SWG "Golden Age." Right now, it feels like this for me: Rome has fallen, and we're in the Dark Ages.

I think I'll tell SOE/SWG's billing department that my Credit Card Information is under NDA and I cannot disclose it until after the Combat Upgrade!

The whole idea of a NDA for paying customers is pure sh*te.

If I'm paying to play the game now, and I like the game as it is... then I continue to play and invest my time and money into the game.

But, if 60 days or 6 months down the road, they turn the game into something that I hate... I don't have the option to continue to play the game that I liked and that I played for more than a year. I won't get my money back.

The EULA screen each and everytime I log on protects SOE from many lawsuits. Who protects the players rights when SOE changes the game on us?

Not trying to sound like a total prat here, but come'on. I know, if I don't like the game, quit. But, what about those who liked it how it used to be? I signed up under the old rules and the old system... if I don't like the new one, what then?
