I just finished reading a thread posted by the devs about the most popular classes in game.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=732#M732

Most popular advanced professions:

Creature Handler
Pistoleer
Bounty Hunter
Rifleman
Merchant
Most commonly mastered advanced professions:

Creature Handler
Architect
Doctor
Dancer
Weaponsmith

Sure, you might be seeing more Commando's where PvP is concerned, but I might offer that it's only because their weaponry is easy to spot. And if you see one Commando in a group of 5 players, do you consider what those other 4 classes might be? I do see my fair share of Flamethrowers too, but I would argue I see just as many people who might be Creature Handlers or Bounty Hunters or Riflemen that are harder to spot.

My point being, not everyone is a Commando. But they are somewhat common. And shouldn't they be now that they work in some manner?

Just as an exersize, I challenge you to find a Master Carbineer or a Master Squad Leader in game. You'll see what I mean.

Ejected I'll bet good money they based that list off of stale info. The huge influx of commando I think is fairly recent. Which is why it needs to be tweeked. They overdid it when the hit it with the unnerf bat. I cannot quote numbers and it might only need to be tweeked a little, but the most sure fire way of telling if a class is too strong is by how many people are flocking to it. It might be just as simple as a nerf on the flamethrower itself. I'm a master WS and what i don't understand is the the Heavy Acid Rifle does significantly less damage at more ham cost than the flamethrower. Schematically speaking they are almost identical weapons. The only difference is a few units of a flame source which isn't even named and stat wise shouldn't contribute to the effectiveness.

CH used to say the same thing. Because their pets stood out, it made it look like they were the most popular class. There goes that myth.

The world accoring to Garva:

"Also to be bluntly honest, everyone keeps saying "there are this and that many people leaving the game" when its just plain not true. There are no fewer people playing at peak time now than there were 5 months ago. (thats not even saying how many active accounts their are which has also infact Increased over the past 6 months steadily) while I know you will probably just see this as smoke it really is the truth."

Yeah I have to agree. Unfortunately I am a casual player and only have 4 boxes in commando so I feel like the bandwagoners that are going Flame 4 and moving to other elites. I started my commando blocks before the patch and see guys who used to have the "master CH" tag running around with grenedier tag now. Makes me depressed to see 20 people who laughed at me about being commando now be further along than I am.

Well there aren't many master bh's,it seems that all they want is eyeshot. It's the same thing for commando now: everyone wants flamesingle2 so they can one shot in pvp. Now the dev's are moving eyeshot to master which i think is a good thing. If they moved flamesingle2 to master commando i think that would lower the amount of dabblers and give people more of a reason to go master.

I also think the reason you see more people running around with flamethrowers now is that they actually work. I chose commando from day one, i got flamethrower 1 and shot a gorg expecting to see decent damage. I missed the gorg then waited 10 secs to shoot it again, doing a disappointing 800 damage. I used the launcher pistol after that, and i just felt stupid running around with a flamethrower knowing how worthless it was.

Oh, and about people toting flamethrowers hehe, I had a guy toting his when I went into PvP the other night, I healed a fellow rebel, and this guy decided to flamesingle me in the back.

He shoulda got more than flamesingle one b4 trying it... in the 15 seconds he stood there, I jumped in the water, put out the flames, got out of the water, and scorched his a$$ with a flamesingle2.... He didnt seem to notice that I was wearing a full set of comp armor, and he was in reg clothes...

That said I died a bunch of times in that fight, never to a flameshot though hehe, BH with his eyeshot got me, go dragged down by a graul mauler, stuff happens hehe.

Let the dabblers have their flamethrowers, it doesn't make them masters of combat. A brain will take out a flamethrower anyday

Easy fix, move flame single 2 and acid single 2 to master. That ought to cut out a good portion of the bandwagoners.

An even better idea is to actually balance the classes. Why do you think you see so many commandos now? Because they are the PvP class. It was originally CH, with their 3 pets, but then everyone whined about that and it got nerfed... they're too powerful. Then it bounced to the Bounty Hunter with his spam knockdowns, but then everyone whined about that and it got nerfed... they're too powerful they screamed. Now it is the Commando with the one shot kill PvP. People are getting sick of whining and are now just switching jobs. THe developers need to work on getting a balanced game where the classes work as they want them to and then sit back and watch. Commandos ARE overpowered right now... do I think they need a nerf? No not at all, but I wish they would unnerf some of the other classes so people like me who are still holding on to them, and getting smoked in PvP (no pun intended) have a chance again.

I think it has more to do with the weapons than the power. The weapons a commando has in his arsenel are pretty **edit** cool in concept compared to the rest of the classes. Now in reality they are less cool, which is why you will see lots of FlameIV's running around.

Who wouldn't want to shoot a rocket launcher at an AT-ST? Who wouldn't want to hurl a proton grenade at a crowd of enemies and watch them all drop? Who wouldn't want to flameCone2 a room full of tuskens and watch them all burn to death?

We are powerful sure, I am not disputing that, but from long distance we are still comparatively weak. Besides, for all the points we have to invest to get here, it makes sense for us to be a little more powerful than let's say a Pistoleer or any other specialist combat class.

I think the influx is largely due to people who would have been commandos before, but realized that they were broken, opted for some other profession. Now that it's fixed, they come out of the woodwork.

Well i dont consider myself a bandwagoner. I've been playing for about 6 weeks and made commando my goal from day 1. I just made Novice Commando 0/0/0/0 w00t!

I do agree that the best shot should be attained when you reach master.
