Thread: Dream Commando Weapon

So, here's a fun little exercise. If you could make up new dream weapons for Commandos, what would you create? Here's my wishlist:

Generic Giant Laser Rifle - Comparable to the T-21 in size, or the long rifles used by clone troopers in Episode 2, the GGLR would be added into the Acid Rifle tree, which would now become a 'commando rifle' tree. Unlike rifleman, the GGLR would perform as a rapid fire, close range weapon, intended for shock assault duty. I would be delighted to see it replace the Acid Rifle, using the same weapon graphic with laser fire coming from the barrel in place of green mist, but it would be an excellent 'in addition to' weapon as well.

Self-loading Portable rocket propelled grenade launcher - A 4th block heavy weapons certification weapon, the SLPRPG would act as the big brother of the launcher pistol. Resembling a larger version of the existing rocket launcher weapons, the SLPRPG would behave like the launcher pistol in that it can be equiped, used while standing or prone, and non-consumable. Attack speeds would be greatly reduced over the launcher pistol, with scaled up damage to compensate. Consumable weapons would possess faster firing speeds, or greater damage, than this weapon.

Light Repeating Tripod mounted Blaster - Available only at the Master Commando skill box, the LRTMB would be a deeded item that goes to your datapad, like a droid. It could be summoned only when not in combat, and would produce a light repeating blaster mounted on a tripod. The design is as seen in the Hoth sequences of Empire. The weapon must be entered and exited like a vehicle, and is immobile, with excellent long range mods to hit, and severe point blank negatives. Damage and firing speed should be very high, offset by immobility and vulnerability to those able to flank the commando.

Yep, that all would make me pretty happy... So, short of a tank, for which dibs has already been called, what all would you guys like to see?

Chain-fed minigun, like Ol' Painless from Predator. Maximum firepower!


A thermo-nuclear rocket launcher (I believe they had some of these in Starship Troopers).


Something like the Thompson machine gunthat British Commandos favored in WW2, exclusive for commandos. Used for more discreet operations that the minigun.


A commando-issue combat knife, along with the skill mods to actually be decent with it. As commandos, shouldn't webe able to come up behind an enemyand slit their throat?

realisticly? Grenades that are ACCURATE, with State effects. Heavy Weapons that are ACCURATE. a Flamethrower that is ACCURATE.( See a pattern Here? ) oh and a HAR that doesent SUCK.

Non-realisticly? Well besides a Tank(which is adequately covered in the other thread) how about a NERF gun, that fires little foam darts that instantly reduce a target to half there original efffectivness, playability, and fun.

That already exists, but it's part of the uber-secret and hard-as-hell to unlock profession of DEV.

I want the E-Web...Basically I see it as a Mini-Turrent that we can call out like we would a vehicle, use it, then store it before we move on (it would be a stationary weapon with a set up and take down delay)...It would also be targetable buy other players, but because of that, it would be capable of seriously high damage levels (much higher then any of our weapons)...


I figure if the Devs can make turrents player driven, then they can make us mini-turrents.


I also envision a day where we have lines of these E-Webs set up during a GCW battle. Based on that, it would be cool to see a bonus effect given to a Commando operating an E-Web when grouped with a Squad Leader (better accuracy, speed, and maybe a unique special or two).

A line of E-Webs, and a Squad Leader using their Volley Fire command to have all of them target a single target all at once.


Ouch.

Personally my choice for serious commando weapons would be the following

Praxx Blast and Smash - west end games Bounty Hunters Guide for pic's

-- over under combo assult laser rifle and nade launcher, looks cool and would be a "commando" type weapon


Non Disposable Rocket Launcher

--Honestly 70k for 35 rounds that will miss 65% of the time is to much


the "Underslung carbine" thats on the commando web site

--cause its cool!


actuall Mines or timmed detonators

--will make us have to use tatics when planting them to get the best results, ie, nailing a turret or setting a trip wire at a base

What about the weapon from the game Republic Commando that can interchange between blaster rifle, Sniper rifle and anti armor. The DC-17m doing lots of damage. That way we can cover all types of damage with one weapon but it has to change from one to the other faster than changing weapons does now. Not to mention the sniper part would get us out beyond the melee and they should all be very accurate I am thinking around 200+ accuracy. Anti armor could include all the different grenades we now have, unfortunately they would probably be consumable.

Personally when I think of heavy weapons and Commandos, the gun used by Vasquez in the movie Aliens always comes to mind. The side mounted, portable, heavy calibar machine gun would look great. Not to mention be a ton of fun to use.For the movie all they did was put a prop gun on a steady cam. But, you get the idea.

Mmm, an accurate acid rifle would be lovely...haven't used mine yet, but if it's even half as clunky as I've heard...

I'd like a rifle version of the launcher pistol, or at least a version of the 'lag pistol' that we can use our Commando skills for. I kinda like the thing, wouldn't mind seeing it get more love. Okay, so I like pretty explosions, I'm going Commando, what'd you expect?

Really, I'd like more types of weapons that we can use...our deals right now are pretty much acid, fire, blast. The acid rifle never made a lot of sense to me, change 'Flamethrower' skill to 'Stream Weapons' skill, make an 'Acid Streamer' part of that; then change the 'Acid Rifle' tree to just 'Heavy Rifles' or whatever, put in a heavy laser cannon, perhaps something for stun damage (something akin to the electric rifle I've heard of?), other weapons for other damage types. Keep the acid rifle if you want, I still think acid makes more sense as a stream than a bullet. Another possible 'streamer' would be something that does cold damage, and there're sure more types of grenades we could be using--tanglers, concussion, sonic, flare, tear gas...

There's a lot of emphasis in this game on a certain class doing just a certain type of damage (seen that especially with Teras Kasi)...why? All these damage types exist, let's make use of 'em all! That goes for other classes too far's I'm concerned.
