Thread: too many points??

is it realistic that u have to grind all of the marksman tree and 4000 of the brawler just to get novice commando?? i really want to go back to being a commando but i cant seen to find a template that would be worth all the points it consumes. is there any talk about the requirements being dropped?? what is unarmed need for anyways?? i know im just ranting, and ill probably get flamed from here all the way across the rest of the proff forums, but this is irratating me that i cannot combine a template together that i like in which i can have healing and commando. its either one or the other for the templates i have thought about.

As far as I know, there is no talk of reducing our Pre-Reqs. And I hope it stays that way, to tell you the truth.

Well, I am Master commando Master TKA and Novice medic. I think its one of the better ones for us right now. Commando eats up alot o pts , with the unamred 4 and all thats why you see so many tka/commando.

Every template I come up with has at least one tree of commando in it. Usually 0040 or 0440.

Right now, BH 3000, TKM, Commando 0440

You can go master commando, pistoleer 0/0/4/0 medic 4/4/4/0

medic 4/4/4/0, with good stim e's is awesome. I have them follow me around on the corvette, all they do is spam heals, and I never die, even with sbd's on me

Actually I'm sitting with the following template:



  • Master Marksman

  • Brawler Unarmed 4

  • Novice Medic

  • Scout Explore 4

  • Master Commando

  • BH Carbines 4, BH Light Lightning Cannon 4

And This Template leaves me with 3 points left over. It gives me access to all the Heavy Weapons, plus some good carbine skills as well with the Dizzzy/KD Specials(+110 accuracy, +80 Speed). This Combohas worked well for me on most PvE situations, and in some PvP.

Personally, I believe our heavy prerequisites justifies any increased power we get from the Combat Rebalance. We are the only Hybrid profession who's prereqs are ALL combat related. If anything, we should should come off the best. We don't have medic or scout for reqs, but Master Marksman and Unarmed IV: Skills for killing/destroying.

I'm not a Sandbox tester and I of course have never seen the docs, but this is my gut feeling for our profession.

I believe that if our prerequisites are dropped, to say just Master Marksman, then we don't rate much more than say, a regular Master Rifleman.

Take a look at Bounty Hunter. There was talk of seriously beefing up Bounty Hunter way back. But that was in the days of Master Marksman and Master Scout. Very heavy prereqs just from the SPs needed to get to it. And 33 SPs after master. Now, with requirements of M.Marksman and Exploration IV, I don't think they'll get beefed up much compared to the old requirements.

I just wish that unarmed IV req went away. It kills any chance of a 3-master template unless it's TK. Commandos need novice medic to heal 'cause we take such a melee beating. Unarmed 4 does nothing to mitigate that beating. It just sucks down a LOT of skill pts. Even the scout prereqs that a BH needs have some value in terrain negotiation/burst run. But the unarmed 4 just sits there or forces you into the TK/Commando template.

i came up with the following template


Master Marksman

Scout 4000

Brawler 4000

Medic Novice


Pistoleer 4044

BH 3040

Commando 0040



only prob is that i loose alot from not mastering Pistoleer. if by some miracle in the CU they were to do away with brawler necesity ( which i see no reason to have it, we never use our hands, its all about wpns for a Commando ) then i could use the 29 points and Master Pistoleer and get 0040 Medic. so my template would look like


Master Marksman

Scout 4000

Medic 0040


Master Pistoleer

BH 3040

Commando 0040


by far this template would be so much better as i would be able heal myself more efficiently.

You'll like the CU then, as far as we can tell....no one profession will be "forced" to take up another (aside from Meleers having to take up Range to compete in a *real* Star Wars enviroment...but thats another story).


So, even though we'll still have UA IV...that doesn't mean we -have- to take up TKA...quite the opposite. We will have skills that will help us in unarmed, without TKA novice...and therefore an option to go that route.


Of course, that is if everything works out...take this opinion with a grain of salt. Regardless, the new system in terms of templates will be VERY flexible...and all the current ideas for templates will be pretty much antiquited in the very notion of what you can and can't fit in a 250 skill point character build...

Don't under estimate the power of flamecone2. To me it is worth getting master commando for.
