Thread: Heavy Acid Rifle... why?
My best on-line friend uses the FT, so I decided to compliment him by being the HAR user of the pair of us. I quickly figured out that it was pretty useless. I have (a) less damage, (b) less accuracy in general, (c) less speed, and (d) no DOT. The question is why is this weapon here. It's basically the flamethrower's annoying little brother that follows you around but you have to take it along no matter how lame he is because big momma SOE won't let you have your Master status until you've let the HAR play with you and the big boys. I don't really see this as being the weapon to deal as much damage as the FT, but shouldn't it have SOME kind of advantage beyond merely dealing slightly more wounds. Since it is a corrosive weapon, wouldn't it make sense to give it some advantage over armor. Say, a special that reduces the enemies armor level, thus bringing the average armor using person down to AR-0 and halving their armors effectivness for a period of 30-60 seconds. Just a thought, but please, it needs something to make it worth the time to master it.
Have you gotten to Heavy Acid Rile 4 yet?
Try that out and then whine, and if you did. Well wutever lol
I cannot stand the HAR. It is worthless in my opinion and I will never use it in any situation over the flamethrower. The only reason I am holding onto the skills in it is to keep Master Commando and keep FlameCone2.
Because ...some mobs are flame resistant. I remeber when i was novice commando, not doing ANY damage on some mobs on endor up in the desert area. I was told they imune to fire. As I said, this was way back when i was a novice and havent been back to verify. But either way, I expect the devs will further expand on resistance to certain damage types for mobs, players, npc's, pets, structures, ATST's etc...
Another thing I noticed when reading about the HAR, it says something to the effect that it damages armor. Whether this is true, bugged, working, not working...it would make sense that acid damage hits a persons gear durability more than fire. They do have more wound chance, like 3x that of a flamer. Maybe if they make HAR do more wounds to ATST and non organic things ...or rather, if they nerf flamer damage against ATST's, the HAR will be the way to go.
Does Acid Single 2 really do more damage than it's firey counterpart?
Commandos? How can we stop them from kicking our butts?!
your group-mates will like that part more than you doing more damage and thank you.
I don't now what kind of damage Flamesingle 2 does, but I've hit with Acidsingle 2 on a newbie mob for 5800-ish... That said, the main reason I pushed Acid rifle spec first is that it is MUCH more group friendly in terms of graphics. That being said, I seen virtually no use for the HAR after I ding master. I'd really like to use it more, even without the DoT. Here's my short list of what I'd like to see to make it a viable choice:
1) AR 1, like every other acid weapon in the game.
2) Scale "cool down" timers on specials to match the Flamethrower.
3) Keep speed/damage table as they are currently, slower and lower will be more than balanced by making it AP 1.
4) Add decent graphics for normal shot, and Acidcone 1 special (does Acidcone 2 need graphics also?).
I've tested this out on Endor .. I used a Flame thrower with spec 3 .. and HAR with spec 3
vs same type of mob.. .. which had a 100% heat resist on it.. and vuln to acid.
With the dot. The flame thrower.. Still.. out damaged the acid rifle.
I can hit for around 3000-6000 with the flamethrower (on non rifle using targets)
I hit for around 2000-3500 with HAR .. much slower rate.. no dot.
I mean .. ok it's acid damage.. but I'll pass on it. I originally picked it up as I expected a corrosive dot.
Perhaps it does damage armor.. but armor still isn't being widley used as the ham is still far too crippling and it decays too fast as is (nevermind over priced). And damageing armor on an NPC won't get ya anywhere fast.
HAR I think needs a second look at it.. if they don't wanna change it .. give it some range atleast.. I dunno 'any' rifle that hits only at 16m or less
As with the heavy part.. it looks heavy.. the damage.. isn't.
I fully plan to have a HAR for the reason that some mobs may be vulnerable to ACID and very protected from HEAT.
Just my 2¢
