With the current state of the Commando, what are some of your best strategies for combat?

Many have mentioned: intimidate/warcry/flamesingle2

What are yours?

If you have any macros, please post here.

Works pretty well I mean, unless youre using a prefession that works there is no point in PvP as a commando. With stacking defenses we dont have a chance...

lol. Good one.

OK, we know we are not that great in PvP, but besides that little nuisance, what strategies do you have to keep you alive longer and more effective. And the strategy does not have to be for PvP, it can be PvE.

And although your probably thinking, well you can just avoid PvP altogehter, since that will keep you alive longer, that's not what I meant, lol.

Well, I use my launcher pistol as my main PvP weapon. The flamethrower is nice but until we can actually hit our opponents at least 60% of the time...there is no point. Grab smuggler for the knockdown......and combo that with the flame.

If you really want to go Commando, ONLY take the flame branch. Buy a crate of flamers, find a Master Smuggler, get all the flamers sliced, keep the best ones, dump the rest.

Thanks for your comments, but what I'm looking for is more in the lines of STRATEGY. Lets say you are already a Master Commando, then what steps do you take in combat to make you better in combat.

Use all your tools. It's amazing how many smugglers use only an FWG5 because it's what they heard was the "best gun". I have commandos in my PA that use ONLY flamethrowers, because they believe they have just that one weapon that's good.

It's been my experience across multiple games over the last 30 years that flexibility and adaptability == strength. Figure out how to use the acid rifle. Figure out how to use grenades. Figure out how to blend Pistoleer and Smuggler into your mix, and use that.

What I have seen that works: Launcher pistols. TKA moves and powerboost. Being able to heal, esp. mind damage (yes, you can heal that now, Blue Milk). Sliced flamethrowers, against Wookies especially. Enjoy that one while it lasts, wooks are getting Light armor next patch.

What doesn't seem to work: Using flame when the target is running away alot, trying to start a fight too close to a TK (seen lots of commandos twitching on the ground while the TK jumpspinkicks them to incap). Not swapping away from the flamethrower after the target is either missed alot or is already on fire. Not getting the most from your old marksman and brawler tree moves. Not having medic, and refusing to hybridize into other professions that help your combat style.

When I first became a Master Commando I would refer to it as my primary profession...any other profession I picked up is my secondary, only to be used to enhance my Commando capabilities...

But in the state our profession currently exists I use the Commando Profession more like my secondary profession to boost what I can do with TKM...my current strategy is to KD and then Flame Special...

Until we get some fixes, I honestly think the best Commando strategy is to dabble outside the profession...whether it is getting Pistol specials for the LP, Rifleman skills to take care of ranged oppoents, or TKM for close range fighting and melee defenses, dabbling seems to me our best strategy...

I'm still hoping for the best and striving to maintain a postive outlook through it all...we've been acknowleged...our issues have been acknowleged...it may take time, but we will see better days...I'm sure of that...

Great post Garvin.

You are absolutely right. It's important to keep a good attitude. Last night i got pummeled by a TKM and i was fully buffed but didnt keep my distance from knkdwn/dizzy. I got him on fire but it just didnt matter in close quarters. I could have taken it with a bad attitude and cried nerf to the tkm, but thats just silly, there are plenty of powerful templates with their own strengths.

I'm 3 boxes from TKM myself but haventbecome efficient at using commando and tka skills together if i need to. I always forget to use intimidate!! Any advice for the commando/tka combo?

My answer to the template spread is that we shouldnt have to pick up another elite profession just to make ours viable. I agree that there are templates to make us better, but it seems like our only option. It just doesnt seem right.

I love commando, but its pretty much essential to have some other skills to back it up. Which is really not a problem, cause some of the cross-profession combos can be pretty sweet. For instance, one of my favorites is to LowBlow with my LP (Man, this has got to be THE coolest weapon in the game) from long range and then /aim, and fire a rocket. If the rocket actually hits, it is incredibly devastating, and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Anyways, thats one way I compensate for the Flame Throwers inability at long range.

Also, I've been using proton grenades when fighting NPC's (For style mostly) using the same LowBlow, /aim strategy, except standing about 10m away, I was very surprised at how effective they were, and getting 3k combat XP is pretty sweet as well. The only down side to this is the 100+ HAM cost for each throw, but when I'm buffed its not a problem. Protons just look so awesome when they explode, ahh... despite all of our troubles, you have to admit commandos rule!
