Test Center Patch Notes 11-3-03

Reworked the dot mechanics so that dots no longer incapacitate the target. If a given dot pulse would reduce the target to less than one, the pool is instead taken down to 1. Because of this change, the dot grace period for being incapacitated has been removed.

Personally I don't think this change is such a bad idea...will definitely put an end to some serious whining...but it's ill-concieved...it only makes sense for PvP...PvE should stay the same...how many of us have been saved from an NPC as they approached to DB us, only to have the dot take them out...

In PvP, players would get incapped even after they won the battle...by taking them down to one, this will be prevented...and if the Commando is still alive, they should easily be able to hit for 1 damage...so not a huge worry...The dot still does it's work for drainage...

what sucks about this is the time it takes for our flame specials to reload. Sometims incapping from my DOT is the only thing that saves me(like i get incapped and they incap before i get deathblowed). I cant use my dot then get another shot off. We all know how long our specials take to reload.
If were like Combat Medics where we could immediately quickfire a pistol for the 1 dmg after our tick wrecked a target this would be ok.

Our DOTS at the moment are the only thing that makes our class viable, espically the fact they incap multiple targets.
Make this for Combat medics only since that is were the problem the devs are correcting lies.

Once this goes live, I really don't know how I am going to do some of the things I feel I need to be able to do. Soloing FS npcs for holos is only moderately difficult for me atm since I can FD and let them die. Without them dying from flame dot, it is going to be difficult at best for me to solo them without a pet. With the CH changes coming down the pipe, I won't have enough skillpoints to get a good pet so what do I do? We shall see, it will be interesting.

Keep talkin'. We have to go out and try the change in the field and see how it works. If it works out that this change is not acceptable we have to make our voices heard. However, the devs are not going to listen to us until we give the change a try IMHO.

Personally I think the change is fine for PvE but the dot should be left alone in PvP.

Out of curiousity, why do you feel that way? My opinion is opposite, fine for PvP, but bad for PvE...My reason is that this whole issue came from Whining in PvP...that folks were getting incapped even after they won the battle...or that people would apply a Dot, then just run away and hide until the dot incapp's the other player (then they return to DB)...And in somecases, people would die, the opponent would later get incapp'd by the dot, and before the incapp time wasup, the other player would return from cloning and kill them while they are down...Removing the incapp issue from PvP should end this type of Whining (or at least lose the power behind it)...

In PvE, expecially thanks to our delay issue, the Dot to incapp has saved most of us...although, I am going back and forth on this...many of the arguements above are that our delay is so bad we need the Dot Incap...but the way I play is to try and get a couple of specials off quick in the beginning, then just pound on them with non-flame specials (normal shots) or switch to another weapon...I never usually incapp a tough player (or strong NPC) with the first 2 specials...and if you don't use the specials there is no delay...how slow are your FT's...with the Dot on there initially, I can fire a shot ever 3 seconds or so using my FT...No delay...and a couple shots into that, the opponent is dead. I don't wait or rely on the Dot to take my opponent down...I am just thankful for when I'm already incapp'd that it prevented a Death Blow....Are folks actually depending on the Dot to win the fight?

I think I got enough out of your post to respond...

Ok...this is what Mitigation is going to do for us...BH's will still have powerful weapons, but they won't do us as much damage as before...so no one or possibly 2 shot kills...and the more time in a battle, the better I think our chances are as commandos, especially if we can get close....and even if we can't, if you can land 1 or 2 RL hits, plus a nice bleed (thanks to pistoleer anda fastLauncher Pistol), they'll be so busy trying to stim heal themselves you shouldn't even need to wait for the bleed/dot to get them down to 1 to finish them off...Imagine stacking healthshot1, healthshot2, flamesingle2...flamesingle2 would be the first time you saw any delay...and by then, you could take them out without any specials.

The only time I have ever been dependent on my Flame Dots or Bleeds is when I have been fighting multiple NPC's...to hopefully kill off 1 or 2 and stop the multiple hits all at once...otherwise, this change won't effect me at all...Think of it as a time to come up with a better strategy...you've been to dependent on your Flame Dot to win your battles...They should be used as a way to weaken your opponent, not finish them off...

When you look at what we are getting...Mitigation...No More Melee 2.5x Damage Bonus...More Melee and Ranged Defenses at Master...Better Accuracies at Master...Better side professions to dabble our remaining skill points in...The whole Flame Dot issue is a seriously weak point...Plus, the act of using Flamesingle1 & 2 still do enhanced damage as far as I figure...it's just the dot itself that is getting hacked...you can still hit flamesingle to do more then normal damage to your opponent and send them off to a dirt nap.
