Thread: What Is a Good Damage Ranged Special to Couple with Commando?

I only have a few skill points to throw around. I'm looking for a high damage ranged special from another profession.


It seems that Smuggler's Reckless Shot lacks.


Any help here would be hot!

dispite what alot of people have told me about last ditch not working with commando weapons. It seems to work just fine for me. At least with a flamethrower. Havent tried it with the others as of yet. Only downside is last ditch is only really useful when your almost dead. And after you use it. You likely will be.


Beyond that I've found alot of the commando specials work very well with it. As well as the smuggler's concussion shot for the root.

Hmmm I was thinking of a non-Critical Shot special.


Anyone else notice that Commando weapons do poor damage, and even the fire DOTs that are supposed to stick rarely do. The area damage DOES NOT WORK. Getting states such as Concussion shot to stick in an AoE is a pain in the ass.


I am very dissapointed in Master Commando. I do better damage with my backup pistol coupled with only Master Smuggler than I do in commando.

Was that a regular flamethrower or a plasma? I tried last ditch with a plasma during a friendly duel after my health was almost gone. The damage it did was barely over 200 points. I was very disapointed.


As for good damage specials to use with commando weapons, I find that improved leg shot does rather well.

I was using a 300 base DPS Plasma Flamethrower (430 modified DPS). The actual DPS was pretty bad, even coupled with the general ranged mods from smuggler. I'm not too certain that the Plasma Thrower even HAS a AOE damage zone, but I can tell you from experience that the Lightning Beam Cannon and Rocket Launcher do have them.


If only the damage was upped just a hair and AOE put into place, would I even begin to consider that Commando is rated a 5 for damage output.

Can not say I have found a really good special and weapon to deliver great damge. However, like others have said concussion seems to work well. I do not use it for the damge output, but for the root effect. I have found that whenh in groups and we are being mobbed I use my flamethrower, usualy plasma, and tend to root anywhere from 3 to 6 opponets. Makes it easier, if only for the duration of the special, for my group to take them out. Just my opinion.



For other specials I use them as I see an oppurtunity. Besides concussiob shot I have no favorites. I tend to mix them up.

I like Sniper shot while concealed. Almost triples the damage form my Lightning Cannon.

Bounty Hunter's critical shot is nice with a flamethrower, especially if the hit really is critical.


It's even nicer with Advanced Critical Shot.

Critical or Leg shot is good. I believe regular leg shot has a higher damage multiplyer then advanced mind shot.

i love using legshot from carbineer with plasma FT or lightning canon for damages, rapidfire is nice too.


a fun attack to do with heavy weapon is the stopping shot from pistoleer, thanks to Ae effect you root everything in radius

I've been playin around with different templates matched with M-Commando quite a bit here's what I've found:


master commando/smuggler:


1) Concussion shot is way cool. Very useful if you get group agro 'cause you can root a bunch of stuff at once.

2) Other specials including last ditch didn't work very well for me. Panic shot and improved panic was ok.

3) I was more effective using a pistol with smuggler than using my commando weapons.

4) Overall I'm keeping novice smuggler for concussion shot and dropping the rest.


master commando/pistoleer


1) Body shot gives a nice multiplier. This allowed me to do the most damage out of any other special I tried.

2) Other shots don't seem to do much. They all seem to be either lesser versions of concussion, or I failed to see a difference in the amount of damage I did or the mob did to me.

3) Overall I'm keeping novice pistoleer for body shot.


Master Commando/BH


1) Crtical shot, eye shot, underhand shot, etc. I was not impressed with these specials. Keep in mind this is using commando weapons. Underhand did about the same as my rocket launcher in both damage and kd. Critical and improved crit didn't increase the damage all that much. With a 400dps plasma flamer I was getting about 600 pts a hitor so with improved crit and 800+ with body shot from pistoleer.

2) Duelist stance and improved duelist stance are very nice for damage mitigation.

3) Overall dropped BH


Master commando/Doc

1) This worked out well grouped, sucked solo. I could use concussion from smuggler to root things while the group beat on them, and I could heal and buff the group. I drew less agro healing than I did using AOE commando weapons. Go figure...

2) Rez is nice when ppl die, ppl don't die all that much so overall...eh.


Master commando/CM

1) Works well when grouped. DOTs stack so you can put some massive DOT hurt on something, but it seems to me that DOTs are borked because if you get incapped the DOTs stop. Also you get the night of the living dead effect if a DOT kills something.


My final template is most likely gonna be:


Master Commando/Master CM/Novice smuggler/novice pistoleer. I get concussion shot and body shot along with the roots and DOTS from CM, the ability to heal and rez, and of course....my flamethrower....



On a side note. I've seen various threads talking about how defense mods and mitigation don't seem to work and I must agree. Compared to level variations these skills are so weak as to be meaningless.

I find that odd, because my Plasma FT is a preCU crappy DPS POS and hit's 900 a pop with headshot.


I know for a fact crit is better then head shot, unless you were just using regular crit and not advanced crit?
