I keep seeing people posting "we are tank killers," "we take down heavy installations and turrets," and "we kill droids, battle machines, and AT-STs."

While that is all well and good, and I agree that we need a couple of weapons specialized for these functions...I BEG that you do not center your posts around that thought. Mention it? Sure, great, perfect. But PLEASE DON'T make it all you talk about.

Look at commando from the overall perspective:

How many times do you see turrets and heavy machines in pvp? If you get weapons that are only good against turrets and heavy machines, you are going to be a gimp in pvp.

Personally, I have seen 1 AT-ST in the last 3 weeks...how much fun am I going to have as a commando if that is all I am good at?

What about imperial commandos? Since rebels don't get AT-ST's...what will imperial commandos have to do?

How often do you actually mine or attack installations?

What about neutral commandos? They don't have any heavy weapons or installations to attack...what do they do?

All the posts concentrating on this principle are asking TH to make commandos useful only in the rare event that a group of players decides to raid a factional base. If that is what we get, what about all those commandos who hate raiding and pvp? What will commando have in store for them?

Please....concentrate your posts on the fact that we, as commandos, spend over twice as many skill points and should be devistating forces on the battle field (whether that be against creatures, other players, or factional installations and weapons). We will only get what we ask for, and we are currently asking only to be good at destroying turrets and AT-STs (bad plan).

thats because one of our trees is practically designed for that daker. im sure youre reffering to my post

once they fix the har mods, the grenade accuracy, we will be left with useless shoulder mounted weapons. yeah, firing a rocket at people is cool, but then again a ranged elite can use their own attacks to match and outdamage these weapons. so then what?

we are short-ranged antipersonnel and anyrange antivehicle/structure. our weapons just dont measure up is the problem.

Daker you are only focusing on the NOW and not the purpose of that thread...the WHAT'S TO COME...

Down the road there are suppose to be much more focus on the GCW for both PvE and PvP...this means that the everyday player will run into more and more heavy weapon tank possibilities...More ATST's...ATAT...more Turrents, etc...

We need to focus on us taking down these heavy machine monsters (whether rebel, imperial, or nuetral since all sides will have something) for our future sake...We need to lay claim to these beasts now!!!!

Look at the proposals for Droid Eng especially...an new sub profession of Droid Hander with heavy combat droids...this is our dream...to have heavy metal beasts to attack...more and more will be showing up as the game progresses...

You need to stop looking at the NOW and take a look at what's knocking on our door tomorrow....if you did, you'd be pushing hard to make us Tank Killers...

Actually tac...I didn't even see whose post was whose... (so I wasn't intending to tac bash )

I was just noticing that a BUNCH of the posts on the thread centered around killing AT-ST's and installations, and that scared me.

Really, I kinda like our current setup. We are devistating at close range (flamer and acid rifle when it finally gets fixed), we have good AOE attacks (grenades and cones), and we have good "anti tank" weapons (launcher pistol and launchers). Our weaknesses? We get really beat up in single pvp because we have no resists and have REALLY long delays on specials.

I think this fits what most people envision, it is just that most of our stuff is broken right now.I would hate to see devs mess with a good thing (that just isn't working) and to make things worse in the process.

Yeah but tac thats currently what we have. TH is asking what the community as a whole sees the commando as supposed to be.

This is our chance to say we dont want to "only" be good at big machinery. Saying that makes us all have to be rebel to be valuable unless in the even rarer case, someone is stupid enough to come within 16m.

Dang, you all posted while I was typing. lol

Anyway, we can have a much broader role and still be tank killers, I just dont want to be just that.

Not at all...As a rebel I've noticed a lot more that when flying by certain imp bases I get a TEF and the turrents start firing...With the upcoming GCW upgrades I'm sure they are going to also up the number of Rebel bases that also target Imps...I have a STRONG feeling more imps and rebel NPC's will auto aggro for lower faction standings then they currently do...

And with Droid Handlers coming into being, both sides will need someone good at taking down metal beasts...who does the best blast damage? Who will get by big time on big damage done to these beasts? Think flavor of the month...more people will rush to try out this new profession...and everyone will want a new combat droid of some type...and we'll be there to scrap them...

read garvin's post above techno. thats why im posting the need to have effective stuff vs vehicles, droids and installations.

he asked us what we thought we should be, I answered. I gave the reason why we dont fill that role. Many people just think the commando is the superb short range killer. its not. any melee class will do better than us. we are not ranged killers, for if we were then we'd be just another ranged class. as a hybrid our niche has to be competent in ranged, competent in melee (melee range), excellent against X. That X is the one thing others are not good against. vehicles, droids and installations.

'tac bash' ? oh heck theres even a term now

Garvin, respectfully I hate this idea.

I really don't want to be forced into having nothing to do but search out AT-STs and turrets and kill them...it's boring. What could possibly make you think that (1) there are going to be more in the game to kill, and (2) that this is something everyone wants to do everyday all day. Reality check...it's not.

Besides that, you totally ignored my point about imperial/neutral commandos. "More ATST's...ATAT...more Turrents..." Perfect...what the hell do imperials and neutrals do?

As for the DE stuff...that is crazy. Devs are talking about implementing a Droid Handler profession. Big deal! So we might (as in nothing is certain yet) have an advantage against one of the more than DOZEN other combat classes, all who currently beat us in pvp, and who will continue to do so in the future (especially considering the HUGE nerf our flamer is getting). Additionally, this gives no real world NPC advantage, only an advantage against the small number of players who actually become droid handlers.

Devs have already given us the task of being the "beast killers." Continuing to focus on that is now worthless. We need to concentrate on what will round out our profession now. You are trying to turn us from "one trick ponies" to "one trick ponies that only work against turrets." I think that is wrong.

"Anyway, we can have a much broader role and still be tank killers, I just dont want to be just that."

we already fullfill that 'broader role' with the flamer, grenades and acid rifle. its the tank killer part that is not yet working. 5k rocket launcher damage, what a joke. I do 6 times more damage using a rifleman box1 specialin 2 shots (1 shot per second).

we just need the weapons fixed, our role is already defined in our weapon SET. Just need the set FIXED.

Ok, so what if devs read everyones posts, and say "boy they REALLY want to be good at killing tanks," and scrap some of our current weapons (like the acid rifle) instead of fixing them andreplace them with more anti-tank weapons?

Do you see my issue?

I agree that we do with the HAR (if fixed) FT and grenades(if more efficient) have a broader role. We just need to not forget the need for some ranged capabilities for that broader role.

I didnt take his post as a top 5 issues sort of thing, i took it as where do we think we should be heading, Yes indeed we need some things fixed, and maybe this is going to set the stage for the direction they will go with it and I do agree that we should be the ones that take out the heavy machinery but I just hope that the broader role aspects of our profession dont get forgotten.

I haven't read Tac's post over there...but I for one never said that our whole purpose is to hunt out AT-ST's and turrents...the focus pusing the direction of Tank Killers is to push for high defenses and better Ranged Attacks...or at least more decent close range attacks...How is that a bad thing? How is that something you can't use in every day fights? I don't think a reality check is needed...I just think you need to take a closer look at the bigger picture...Look at the broad perspective...What is a Tank Killer? What makes up the skills of a Tank Killer? Power and Defense!!! These are ideas that can be translated into just about any situation.

Besides that, you totally ignored my point about imperial/neutral commandos. "More ATST's...ATAT...more Turrents..." Perfect...what the hell do imperials and neutrals do?

And apparently you missed my other post...With the upcoming increase in the GCW both sides will be giving more target opportunities...more things to do...do you think that with the Imp Agression rise that only Rebels will have more things to do? That would be pretty one-sided and foolish on the Dev's part (not to say their above doing something like that though)...I'm pretty sure they will add more factors for both sides...

As for the DE stuff...that is crazy. Devs are talking about implementing a Droid Handler profession. Big deal! That's the same kind of thinking that get's folks in the most trouble..."So something big is coming...no worries...we'll just deal with it when it comes..." How about planning and preparing for it before it happens...seems a pretty reasonable idea to me...And how would up'ing our defenses (i.e. we will need more defenses to take on big mechanical tank) and fixing our ranged issues (i.e. so we can shoot the big metal tanks) not fix or at least help our PvE issues as well...

Devs have already given us the task of being the "beast killers." Continuing to focus on that is now worthless. We need to concentrate on what will round out our profession now. You are trying to turn us from "one trick ponies" to "one trick ponies that only work against turrets." I think that is wrong.

The Dev's have giving us the title of "beast killer"...and suggested the task...but they haven't given us the full potential to fulfill this idea...We do great blast damage...but our defenses aren't up to par...A Pistoleer has more defenses then we do...By people pusing for Commandos to be "Tank Killers" they are actually (again looking at the bigger picture) pushing for higher Defenses, better weapons with more damage, ranged attacks, etc...how on Earth does that make us "One-Trick Ponies?" I don't think it's wrong...I think you are in your narrow thinking of the matter...

To make us true Tank Killers what would that mean to you...what do you image a profession titled "Tank Killer" to have as it's skills and defenses...High Defenses and High Damage Attacks...how is that a bad thing? And how does that not translate to everything else we like to do?
