Commando Archive
Thread: Please read this before you post on TH's concept thread.
Yeah but tac thats currently what we have. TH is asking what the community as a whole sees the commando as supposed to be.
This is our chance to say we dont want to "only" be good at big machinery. Saying that makes us all have to be rebel to be valuable unless in the even rarer case, someone is stupid enough to come within 16m.
Dang, you all posted while I was typing. lol
Anyway, we can have a much broader role and still be tank killers, I just dont want to be just that.
read garvin's post above techno. thats why im posting the need to have effective stuff vs vehicles, droids and installations.
he asked us what we thought we should be, I answered. I gave the reason why we dont fill that role. Many people just think the commando is the superb short range killer. its not. any melee class will do better than us. we are not ranged killers, for if we were then we'd be just another ranged class. as a hybrid our niche has to be competent in ranged, competent in melee (melee range), excellent against X. That X is the one thing others are not good against. vehicles, droids and installations.
'tac bash' ? oh heck theres even a term now ![]()

Daker you are only focusing on the NOW and not the purpose of that thread...the WHAT'S TO COME...
Down the road there are suppose to be much more focus on the GCW for both PvE and PvP...this means that the everyday player will run into more and more heavy weapon tank possibilities...More ATST's...ATAT...more Turrents, etc...
We need to focus on us taking down these heavy machine monsters (whether rebel, imperial, or nuetral since all sides will have something) for our future sake...We need to lay claim to these beasts now!!!!
Look at the proposals for Droid Eng especially...an new sub profession of Droid Hander with heavy combat droids...this is our dream...to have heavy metal beasts to attack...more and more will be showing up as the game progresses...
You need to stop looking at the NOW and take a look at what's knocking on our door tomorrow....if you did, you'd be pushing hard to make us Tank Killers...
Garvin, respectfully I hate this idea.
I really don't want to be forced into having nothing to do but search out AT-STs and turrets and kill them...it's boring. What could possibly make you think that (1) there are going to be more in the game to kill, and (2) that this is something everyone wants to do everyday all day. Reality check...it's not.
Besides that, you totally ignored my point about imperial/neutral commandos. "More ATST's...ATAT...more Turrents..." Perfect...what the hell do imperials and neutrals do?
As for the DE stuff...that is crazy. Devs are talking about implementing a Droid Handler profession. Big deal! So we might (as in nothing is certain yet) have an advantage against one of the more than DOZEN other combat classes, all who currently beat us in pvp, and who will continue to do so in the future (especially considering the HUGE nerf our flamer is getting). Additionally, this gives no real world NPC advantage, only an advantage against the small number of players who actually become droid handlers.
Devs have already given us the task of being the "beast killers." Continuing to focus on that is now worthless. We need to concentrate on what will round out our profession now. You are trying to turn us from "one trick ponies" to "one trick ponies that only work against turrets." I think that is wrong.

we already fullfill that 'broader role' with the flamer, grenades and acid rifle. its the tank killer part that is not yet working. 5k rocket launcher damage, what a joke. I do 6 times more damage using a rifleman box1 specialin 2 shots (1 shot per second).
I agree that we do with the HAR (if fixed) FT and grenades(if more efficient) have a broader role. We just need to not forget the need for some ranged capabilities for that broader role.
I didnt take his post as a top 5 issues sort of thing, i took it as where do we think we should be heading, Yes indeed we need some things fixed, and maybe this is going to set the stage for the direction they will go with it and I do agree that we should be the ones that take out the heavy machinery but I just hope that the broader role aspects of our profession dont get forgotten.

I haven't read Tac's post over there...but I for one never said that our whole purpose is to hunt out AT-ST's and turrents...the focus pusing the direction of Tank Killers is to push for high defenses and better Ranged Attacks...or at least more decent close range attacks...How is that a bad thing? How is that something you can't use in every day fights? I don't think a reality check is needed...I just think you need to take a closer look at the bigger picture...Look at the broad perspective...What is a Tank Killer? What makes up the skills of a Tank Killer? Power and Defense!!! These are ideas that can be translated into just about any situation.
Besides that, you totally ignored my point about imperial/neutral commandos. "More ATST's...ATAT...more Turrents..." Perfect...what the hell do imperials and neutrals do?
And apparently you missed my other post...With the upcoming increase in the GCW both sides will be giving more target opportunities...more things to do...do you think that with the Imp Agression rise that only Rebels will have more things to do? That would be pretty one-sided and foolish on the Dev's part (not to say their above doing something like that though)...I'm pretty sure they will add more factors for both sides...

That's the same kind of thinking that get's folks in the most trouble..."So something big is coming...no worries...we'll just deal with it when it comes..." How about planning and preparing for it before it happens...seems a pretty reasonable idea to me...And how would up'ing our defenses (i.e. we will need more defenses to take on big mechanical tank) and fixing our ranged issues (i.e. so we can shoot the big metal tanks) not fix or at least help our PvE issues as well...

The Dev's have giving us the title of "beast killer"...and suggested the task...but they haven't given us the full potential to fulfill this idea...We do great blast damage...but our defenses aren't up to par...A Pistoleer has more defenses then we do...By people pusing for Commandos to be "Tank Killers" they are actually (again looking at the bigger picture) pushing for higher Defenses, better weapons with more damage, ranged attacks, etc...how on Earth does that make us "One-Trick Ponies?" I don't think it's wrong...I think you are in your narrow thinking of the matter...
To make us true Tank Killers what would that mean to you...what do you image a profession titled "Tank Killer" to have as it's skills and defenses...High Defenses and High Damage Attacks...how is that a bad thing? And how does that not translate to everything else we like to do?
