I'm new to becoming a Master Combat Medic, and am curious about several things.
Resources wise I really have no clue as to how to begin getting the right (quality) resources to be able to make effective medicines.
I also see a lot of talk on these forums about using extractors, and "shifts" in resources... could someone explain exactly what you mean by that?
How can I begin to accumulate the resources needed, for example that Tatooinian Berry Fruit i've never even seen for sale on the market, and I don't have a clue as to how to begin collecting stuff like that.
Thanks

The Generics should have as high stats as possible. The specifics will have to do with what you can find. (high stats are allways good of course, but if the only Liq Pet 2 that exists have OQ 2 it will still be better than not making advanced components.

Extractors are bought from architects. They are structures that take up one slot and are specific to each of the main groups of resources you want to have. You will need:
Flora Farm (Organic, floral)
Mineral extractor (Inorganic, Mineral (metals and radioactives))
Gas Extractor (Inorganic, Gas)
Chemical Extractor (Inorganic, Chemical)
Moisture Extractor (Inorganic, Water)
Some sort of energy extractor (Wind, Solar, Fusion)
The places you put these down are found by means of the survey skill. Either you need it yourself or you need a friend that can find spots for you. Extractors need clear ground to place and might give you some trouble in forests (planting an extractor on Yavin IV is one of the most painfull things that can be done)
Each extractor (except the energy ones) comes in three sizes You want to buy extractors with maximum Base Extraction Rate (BER) for each specific type: Personal (BER 4), Medium (BER 10), Heavy (BER 13 - BER 14 in some extremely rare and costly cases)
A good place to look for resources BTW is http://www.swgcraft.com/currentresources.phpcheck your galaxy and see what CM resource is best to extract at the moment. Always put down maximum extractors at a good resource. (Generally I'm using 3 medium extractors, but that's an echonomy thing... you should have 7 free slots after your house and your factory, so you could use 7 slots for extracting if you have the money and the energy needed.)
"Shifts" is when a resource re-spawns. Every resource is in place for aproximately one week... sometimes longer sometimes shorter. When the resource drops from the spot it might be replaced with the same resource (with diffrent stats) or it might dissapear from the spot totally... this is known as "the crafters roulette".
Generally specific resources spawn once every really cold winter in hell, and then with inferior stats. Prepare to be patient.
How can I begin to accumulate the resources needed, for example that Tatooinian Berry Fruit i've never even seen for sale on the market, and I don't have a clue as to how to begin collecting stuff like that.
Toss up a bunch of extractors at good spots. What I'd do (If I was planing on becoming CM from scratch) is skip CM for a few months... go for some money making combat profession and add Survey 4 from the Artisan tree. Check SWG craft daily and set up extractors where needed. Concentrating on putting 7 (or eight you don't need a factory yet)medium to heavvyextractors on high concentration (75% or better) spots of the best CM resource avaiable. Never put up a extractor on a spawn older than 2 days reported unless it is a extremely rare resource, it might dissapear over night leaving you with huge costs and no resources to speak of.
Sell aproximately half of your collected resources, you can make good money selling CM and Doc resources since we usually don't have enought skill points to pick up artisan and therfore are desperate for resources that never spawn anyway.
When you have at leastabout 200k of each resource (with good stats preferably) you're ready to go CM
Now it will be a long long time before you will ever have to worry about resources again.
Another way is to find a good CM-resource dealer. They are rare though. Or just hope to get lucky on the Bazaar. (Allways check "Entire Galaxy")
Good luck...
Thanks
