What armor do people tend to wear as CM in the field, PvE and PvP?
Composite is great i know, but if I dont get insane buffs theres no point in buying it as it will nearly incap me to wear a full set unbuffed (Mon Cal Medic when I started).
thanks for any input, and if im a noob, well, yeah, i am a noob :-P

If you're gonna PvP, you need the buffs and the composie IMO.
If you're gonna PvE vs NPC mobs and are worried about HAM costs, shell out the big bucks to get some nice enc sliced ubese OR get some UNLAYERED ubese. The kinetic resist won't be uber, but will be better than nothing.
PvE monster types.........I just got 2 suits of 26% kinetic resist mabari armor. Ham costs are 93/59/23 without wearing gloves or a helmet after slicing, and some of the slices were not enc.....best money I ever spent.

In PvP, I wear my suit of "Feather Lite" Comp Armor. The reason I call this armor feather lite is because it requires no buffs to wear. 30% Res to everything (Yes stun too). Don't ask me how the armor smith did it as I have no idea. I sliced it for ALL encum. I have a +17 IT/WT shirt that I wear under. If I am in a large PvP raid I won't wear anything just becuaseI will be on the back lines. In the case I am buffing, I wear my pants that are +25 IT/WT and full feather lite armor. Just my 2 credits.

I primarily fight PvE, and tend to wear only a composite chest plate into combat. I also have a compositehelmet I throw on occasionally when I find myself taking more mind hits than I am comfortable with. I don't take enough hits in the arms, hands, or feet to really warrant the encumberance, and since I'm a carbineer I can use all the quickness and stamina I can get...

In PvP nothing but composite will work due to the various forms of attack.
In PvE full sliced 75% kinetic ubese. Since the jacket covers the chest and shoulders you're already paying less on the HAM cost. Ubese in general is lower in HAM cost than composite and after slicing I'm still not taking a big hit in HAMs in the full ourfit. Look into advanced chitin while you're at it. Can get up to 60% kinetic with bone armor like HAM costs. Ugly as sin though.
In PvE faction missions, lightweight comp chest, legs, bracers boots, and a bone or tantel helmet. Lightweight means non layered so the resists are around 50% or so. Bone helmets can get up to 31% on energy and thats what you frequently take headhits from during faction missions. Never had a tantel helmet since armorsmiths are too lazy to make it. That stuff can get up to 48% in any given category when layered correctly. I once saw a tantel helmet with 46% energy resist while only using 80mind...unsliced.
I want to look into the new interwoven stuff coming out of the geo caves but its hard to see any of that as everyone is on the 80% kinetic comp bandwagon.
