Thread: We should charge for healing
This was from another thread about pet stims:
"they are still expensive due to the fact that for ANY pet stim other than A's, we have to go find offworld ingredients, which means at least one (and often multiple) trips off world to find them, do harvester runs, move harvesters, and so on. In addition, there's the cost of running the necessary factory, since all three other component typeshave to be from factory crates and three of one type have to be absolutely identical."
Every single stim i use is advanced. I spend a lot of time traveling from planet to planet getting resources and operating my factory. For what? So i can heal OTHER people. The healing pet xppatch made me seriously think about why I am still doing this. For every x charges I waste on a pet, that's more time and money I have to spend gathering resources and crafting. I get the occasional "nice heals" or "thanks for healing" but it's pretty rare. I missed out onall of the money making 'bugs' and I'm down to 20k credits. I'm having trouble solo'ing decent mobs with my laser carbine. HAM costs are killing me, literaly. How are you guys making money?
One thing is for sure, I am going to stop healing pets. CH's can buy pet stims so it's not my job anymore.
Hey I loved the xp from healing pets! It was great. But its over and we should be glad! No no I mean it. You see the CH's and faction pet owners where moving up the ranks in Medic and healing their own pets and never giving the Medical class any mind. WELL THAT WAS YESTERDAY!!!
Now that the CH's will have to use 2 crates of stim B's to heal up old fluffy its going to be a different story! They are going to need a professional medical class who is not going to get xp for doing it! Whats that mean? CASH BUDDY COLD HARD CREDITS!! You want me to juice up old fluffy to full in a minute or two its going to cost. And I believe .25cr per points sound like a good start. That mean 1000cr for 4000 pts healed. Hmm maybe a little high but Im sure it will find a good middle of the road somewhere. Because some faction pets have 9200 HAM's that mean a new growing cash crop is on for the Medical classes.
Heh, I've charged for healing anyone/anything since I maxed my CM tree...I'd be surprised to find out most other master CM/Doctors don't do the same. Even in groups for tuskan fort, krayt raids, jedi hunts, etc., etc....want me to heal? Pay me, otherwise I might as well continue to get pistol exp and, hopefully, looting rights.
The command might be called /tip, but it would be better renamed /payment.
As just another random bloke who goes about sitting in med centers or cantinas and healing random people, thatisn't the way to build up a patient clientele.
While doing normal group leveling with my aspiring Doc/CM as well as healing in the various cantinas, I've built up quite a rapport with a wide variety of people. It pays (literally) to be friendly and good at your job--simply being a Medic just isn't good enough anymore. In fact, at the end of one two-hour Fort Tusken raiding party today, I was tipped 6k-c & spice for a "job well done." Granted, I could make more money elsewhere, but considering I made over 80k med xp during that time, that's not too shabby.
Once I Master, I fully intend to charge for my services--with the exception of guildies & friends. In the meantime, things you can do to make money are: sell stims on the bazaar or at a shop, advertise that you will enhance stats (if you are able, these last a long time and can more than double some stats) for a certain fee, charge X-amount upfront for each pet you heal.
The sad fact is healers--entertainers or doctors--are underappreciated and underpaid. And if we went on strike the galaxy would be in a world of hurt (no pun intended).
(I posted this elsewhere before I saw this thread)
I'm a combat medic... I am so sick grouping with people who have a bunch of pets...
Here is what happens...
I spend a lot of time and credits making stimps, etc... at my house in naboo... I spend 700 credits to go to Corellia, then another 2400 credits to get to Dathomir...
I find a group to get med xp and have fun... we go out... they pull their pets we fight like mad... then I start getting yelled at because I don't want to use my expensive medical supplies to heal their dumb pets...
I don't get anything for healing pets... no credits, no xp, nothing... I didn't spend all my time and money to craft a bunch of supplies andtravel a long distance so I can heal pets for free... especially pets with 11k HAM... The way I see it... If you have a pet, YOU are responsible for it.. your own discretion, your own risk...
Quit harrassing the medic types... Go get some med skills yourself and heal your own pets at your own cost. I know some people will have the arguement that they think their pets save the lives of everyone in the group... Like I said, I'm a combat medic... If I get aggroed, I can heal myself enough to get a good /burst to shake the aggro... Without me, you may die. What good are your pets anyway when they stand around all dumbfounded as you wake up in a cloning center unable to issue them new attack commands?
If they wouldn't have nerfed the ability to gain anything from healing pets, I would throw a heal or two their way...
The bottom line is... I'm a combat medic, I heal injured people.... I'mnot a veterinarian...
Maybe SOE should make a new subclass for medics to cover pets...
I will agree that CMs save lives; but, to say that my pet is fully my responsibility when in a group is selfish. In a group, I pull out my pet for the benefit of others just like CMs heal others to keep the group alive. True, CMs get xp for healing people but the overriding concern for everybody in a group is to keep the group alive. If that means healing the pets a bit, then please do and I will likewise pull out my prized pets that I really don't want to risk getting DB'd.
It was this quote that really hit a nerve:
"I know some people will have the arguement that they think their pets save the lives of everyone in the group... Like I said, I'm a combat medic... If I get aggroed, I can heal myself enough to get a good /burst to shake the aggro... Without me, you may die."
The pet serves as an initial tank for high-end encounters because it can soak up a lot of damage and not die; and, even if the pet does go down, it's bought the group some valuable time. You're essentially saying that if you get aggro, you are going to burst run away from the fight to shake agg and leave your teammates to their fate. An equal but opposite mindset would be for CHs to refuse to use pets in fights where the pet might be subjected to any real damage. This would probably result in more panicked teammates running all over the place trying to stay alive while you run around trying to keep them together and keep them alive or you getting agg and leaving a team w/out their healer (assuming you're the primary healer) while you try to shake agg.
However, I do understand that healing pets is a huge resource sink because I do heal my own pets and try to keep others from healing my pets when they're hurt so that they don't waste their stims. I'm high enough in the CH tree that I can have a decent rotation of pets so that I can use a fresh pet while 3-4 others are resting. It sounds to me like you've been teaming with selfish CHs who can't be bothered to rotate their pets or low lvl CHs who don't have the capacity to rotate yet and that might be why you've become so negative towards CH. And, if a CH is going to yell at you for not healing their pet, they're probably not a good teammate anyway.
Well, that's it. I'll probably get flamed for this seeing as how it's the CM board; but, hopefully, I'll have encouraged at least a little more tolerance between the classes. Hehe, that last phrase sounds kind of hokey.
well to get back on topic, yes i think we should be charging. but there is a problem, the only ones who will charge will be the masters. why?we dont need the xp so for us, unlesswe get credits we are using a very resource intensive item and getting nothing in return. now the problem, there will always be up and coming medics and doctors who do need the xp. and these people will heal for free, we all did it when we were growing, why wont they?
i dont heal for free anymore and every time when i tell people i charge they tell me nevermind. they would rather sit around the med center and hope another medic will show up who will do it for free. this happened to me the other night, funny thing is i was the only medic in town. as a matter of fact, us 2 were the only 2 people in the entire town. (it was like 4am EST on chilastra)
we set the tone early when we were all trying to level. everyone was at around the same level so it was accepted that we were just doing it for xp. the fighters weren't all little walking Ft Knoxs yet so 1000 creds was a lot. but now things are different, we dont need the xp anymore. this problem is our own fault Ladies and Gentlemen. and i am afraid i see no end in sight
it will take a huge revolution in the medical classes to channge this.
I think that's what is going to happen.
They didn't have it coded to where you would get xp for healing other peoples pets, but not your own. They had to remove the exploit asap.
Q3PO said they will be working on a way for medics to get xp from healing other peoples pets, but it will take a couple weeks to code/test.
I too usually get tipped pretty good for healing people's pets. And I think the ones that don't tip me are AFK or are not paying attention to me healing their pet.
I know I don't catch all my tips as I get them because sometimes they get lost in all the healing spam.
