I guess I'm still at a loss to figure out why so many tailors here apparently don't want to be 'bothered' to make a profit.
If you don't want to sell something - it's simple, don't. But I'm here to tell ya - the component trade IS good money - very good money if you get the word out and go after it.
The problem is that if you tell someone that you refuse to make them for them, then they tell all their friends that you aren't a good tailor and you get a bad reputation. I don't know how many times I have been told that I was being unreasonable and stingey for not making a free schematics or selling my cloth for 2K a crate. It has nothing to do with money. If I wanted to make easy money I would just sell my materials.

I do not have TIME to make componants! My overall policy is .. I just don't make them for anyone. Once in a great while I get a request but I **edit** it in the bud quickly.
I spend literally hours with customers, and running my shop. I got through syn cloth like there's no tomorrow.
Just because you have time to make and sell componants does mean we all do. Plus I would hate to see the amount of tells I would get if I suddenly started making componants! I think I would go insane.
I also run a profitable buisness without selling them.
I also like the fact that most componants can be made by novice tailors, giving thema nice market share but the wookiee items are not something a master armorsmith will want from novice tailors, so the burden would fall on mainly master tailors.

I've done similar stuff to Wire3k, which seems to avoid most trouble.
Basically, I *do* end up with surplus Synth Cloth, Trim, and RFPs, so I figure I might as well make some money off them, but I don't want that to turn into "my job is supplying Armorsmiths." So I list my extra crates on my vendor at prices well above the market standard, but not insanely high. And I tell people who inquire "No, I'm not going to make 100 crates of RFP for you, but I usually will have 10-20 on my vendor at any given time." And they can take or leave that as they please.

If I had extra, I might. I guess my reaction is mostly been because some of the people who ask for components have been really rude about it. If we make these armor components, I might make some of the very best I can make, but they are going to be absurdly expensive. When the richer crafting classes can raise the best quality resource prices above 100cpu, they can not expect me to sell things made out of them for less than that. I'm thinking that 100K per crate is going to be the minumum.

It's really easy to NOT make components if you don't want to. Just price them so high no one will want to buy them. Say - yes of course, they are 10k a crate, how many would you like.
That's OUTRAGEOUS.
Sorry - I'm a tailor and I can barely keep up with my own supply, but yes, I do indeed have a few if you need them that badly.
That's exactly what I do with my modded tissues. And I really CAN'T keep up with my own demand. I usually have a few crates back - and if they are willing to pay 500cr a bonus pt exactly like my finished product sells for - they are welcome to them. There is actually quite a bit of wiggle room in profit - many tailors on my server charge 1000cr a bonus pt - so even then, they'd make some money.
Most give it a pass.
I also don't know why so many folks are against selling schematics. I usually only do it for chef tissues - but 10k for about 2 min work - no resources, no factory time - and it's a CONSUMABLE - well - I think that's very fair and equitable and well worth my time. I do NOT do that on tailoring tissues - those are technically consumables - but they go into durable goods which are in direct competition to my own. I occassionally do it on synth cloth, but am not often asked - it goes into a durable item (armor) but it's not in direct competition with my own products.
And as far as someone giving me grief on my prices? Bah - pssst, it's MY shop - if I wanted to charge 1 million credits for a light bustier I am perfectly free to - and they are perfectly free to shop elsewhere. They give me too much of a headache, they'll go on the ignore and ban list and I rather insist they shop elsewhere. I've actually only had this situation develop a couple times since release. If they are that miserly or lazy that is THEIR problem, not mine. My prices are my prices, and trying to convince me YOU have a right to set MY prices is the quickest way to NOT get sympathy from my corner. I value my time, product and skills - if they don't agree - there are other tailors on the server.

I say go for it Momoko
. I know I'd definitely charge a lot with those crates of wookiee components (if they were to stay in the tailoring tree). 100K per crate might just be what I'd charge too, and of course, they'd be crates with awesome stats too

I agree how components are a great way to make money, and even more so with chefs needing trimnow. Personally, I don't like selling crates of synthetic cloths or reinforced fiberplast panels because I feel it is a waste of my time. When others ask me if I sell crates, I say "no, but I would gladly make you a schematic
."
If wookiee armor components were to remain in the tailoring tree, which I very much hope it would, I'd definitely sell those crates. I like the challenge and the experimentation
