Thread: My thoughts on CM

This is basically cut/paste from a post I made in another forum, so I apologize if you have already read this:

I have recently mastered CM and have come to this conclusion: I feel my only function as a CM is to be a massive griefing tool. There is nothing for me to do except poison/disease people. Healing is unnecessary since almost everyone has novice medic. Mind healing is rarely used since either it is gone in the time it takes to hit the hotkey (due to riflemen), or it heals itself so fast you don't need to heal it (due to mind buffs/food). The profession just doesn't seem to have a place in SWG. The damage is too devastating and yet completely ineffective against docs, although you have to spend somewere around 150 skill points to defend against it. It is simultaneously overpowered (to 90% of players) and underpowered (against 10% of players). However, it is unmistakably a product of SOE who's idea of balancing the system is a huge cycle of overpowering, and then underpowering, and then overpowering again, random professions.

The only other solution is make CM's healing abilities more effective. Make novice medic only able to use stim As. Make caps on constitution/stamina/willpower buffs so they won't regen in the time it takes to fire another shot. Make poisons/diseases more like PvE poisons/diseases by making them less power per tick, but much longer duration, giving CM's healing abilities more emphasis in the profession.

I wish the devs would just come out and explain the purpose for them implementing CM into this game. Is it meant to be a devastating PvP force? or is it meant to heal from afar while reducing oponents' buffs? We have people arguing that it's underpowered (suggesting it is meant to be a powerful PvP force), and people arguing it is overpowered (suggesting it is meant to be a healer/debuffer) EITHER WAY IT'S NOT FULFILLING EITHER FUNCTION PROPERLY. It is an overpowered PvP force and yet and underpowered healer.

and there was much rejoicing...

Im just starting CM, at novice right now, and it seems as if some of the devs really liked the idea of Chemical and Biological Warfare but could not see how to make it a seperate profession. They, instead, stuck it on as an extension of Medic to give the medics more of a combat role. The big problem is that the combat side of CM gets lost in the tons of other combat professions, and the medic side is hardly necessary due to the ease of attaining any medic skills at all.
