Thread: I'm trying not to complain, so I ask am I missing somthing?
(Please note, I know nothing about the combat medic proffession except for what I have seen, if I am mistaken on somthing it would be helpful to tell me.)
I don't pvp very often, I'm just not that good at it in 2 of 3 characters.(I've only incountered 4 CM btw.)So I really don't care about dieing to often, in fact I almost expect it especially if I win my first two fights or so. However I really hate lying on my back for 200 seconds and being taunted. (sometimes they just leave)Its like really boring, heh.
Its especially bad after a tef from a faction mission. As an example a few days ago I did the first mission without problem, but I aquired a tef from it. I then went to my second mission and while prepareing my attack, suddenly it said whatever it says when you get mind poisoned. (I forget heh) A CM was either camping or passing by (I didn't notice with all the 70 or so Impirials around the area east of Anchorhead.) so I got off5 shots or so (nearly incapped him) then collapsed. Now I wouldn't have cared much if I was just dbed right then but instead the CM just moved on.(either to find his next victem or just because he was passing by)However I'm not sure if they can db or not, without aquiring the poison themselves, since strangely I don't think I have ever been dbed after poison.
This is just another annoying thing in this game. Now I ask, is there any means to stop this besides aquiring medic skills myself. Because from my perspective it looks like not only are Combat Medics incredibly strong, but they are just plain horrible to fight. I can accept one of these things but not both. Now I would be interested to know ifthere are any changes planned to take place to stop the second thing, then maybe I can like do faction missions with my weaker characters without the chance of this happening. (With my stronger character I can somtimes db them and at least get some sort of satisfaction while I wait to die, well as long as there alone, heh
Only Docs can cure poison, not Medics. That being said, this issue actually comes up quite a bit. For a CM not to DB you is, effectively, their way of trying to keep you out of the fight. SOme have gotten used to the tactic because they want to get a possible enemy out of the fight, but don't want to tdeal with them coming back wiht a Revenge TEF to take them out. Of coure RTEFs are not out of the game, so it's not a very good excuse.
Overall I would consider this something of a griefing tactic and there appears to be some level of agreement because currently on Test Center posions will drop an individual to 1 point of damage, but not incap. In this way the poison will not go into the 5 minute haiatus of an incap (unless you get deliverately incapped by some other attack) and it also allows the poison to tick away so that even if you do get incapped once, you can stll get up and run to find a Doc for a heal without having to worry about falling incap to the poison again later (although you do have to worry about not being able to do specials or that you could be incapped quite easily in one hit.) There are no guarantees that this change will make it to Live, but it seems to me to be a statement that the Devs are aware of this issue, if nothing else.
And no, a CM will not poison themselves by delivering a DB. If they didn't do it, they either forgot, got too busy with something else (like someone attacking them) or they just wanted to, effectively, do a form of griefing you by trying to keep you away from entering back into combat. (Note: More than a few CMs will claim this is not a grief, but a valid tactic to keep opposing faction members out of the fight and to provide an atrition of forces. Personallyh I don't think that argument holds much water in a one-on-one fight with the RTEF gone, like it would for a group combat. And besides, disease is much better for that purpose anyways because it causes wounds.)
Oh, I guess I should add on the flip side that a lot of CMs do get a lot of grief just for using a poison at all. I think it';s more of a cultural thing where in our Western society the use of Biological or Chemical warfare is considered a heinous and base act. Such ideals really just don't apply in the Star Wars universe, IMHO. It's not like any of us took sime kind of Hypocratic Oath, and this form of combat is obviously a viable combat for for the "game" anyways. It should be noted that bleeds are, effectively, the same kind of thing, a DoT, but does not get nearly the complaints that poisons seem to.
I believe it's really more of a psychological perception problem than any one of actual balance, but it does put a lot of CMs ont he defensive and some of them feel the need to be retaliatory and take out that aggression from the abuse they have received on just whomever they feel like doing so on. Call it CM venting.
