Thread: Resorces! How does a new Nov Combat Medic do it?!
...my quest led me to Tatooine where I found an NPC to teach me Novice Combat Medic. I'm happy now, life is good.
...here I am. Combat Medic. Sounds cool, looks cool above my head. But wait... What's this? Advanced Biological what? Advanced Liquid who'its? Herbivore meat? Hmm. I can get that... Class 4 Petro Chemical?! mmmm. Oh here's some on at the bazaar. Oh look, it's says I have to travel all the way to Naboo to get it, there goes 700 credits or so. And they want what?! 500 units for 3000 credits and the overall quality is only 125!?!
Well... You all get the idea. Obviously it's been done, I see combat medics perform miracles out on the battle field. I've seen 'em toss their heals from great distances and completely fill the HAM of their patients up to max.
What does a new combat medic do who is struggling for cash? Obviously I can't afford to buy the main ingredients (resorces) needed that are above 900 OQ. I'm a poor SOB. I'm continuing to run faction missions and so forth, making money as best as I can.
Anyone have any suggestions? Better ways of finding resorces? ETc..etc.. In other words, what did the other Novice Combat Medics do when they first started out?
Thanks!

Good Post, I was wondering the same thing. Luckily I have great guild mates and they are helping me, get some of the really hard ones like...Radioactive...etc. I wish I had, had the heads up on the resources we need, as I would been collecting them for the last month.
Any resource Barons on Naritus/Kettemoor, willing to help out new Combat Medic's? ![]()
One resource at a time.
Seriously, if you want to be a casual combat medic, it is doable by only harvesting one resource at a time. The following method does work -
1) Buy a bunch of energy. Most servers have specialized radioactive producers that sell energy very cheaply.
2) Pick 1 advanced resource to harvest. If something obscure is available (class 2 petro, class 4 petro, eleton reactive, tolium reactive for example) choose that. Otherwise, choose whatever "standard" resource you need most (talusian water or dantooine berries are a good start). Use swgcraft.com to help select the resource (so you can get some idea what is available, what the properties are, and potentially how long something has been available). Ideally, choose some combination rare, new, high quality resources. Your own need should factor in as well. There's no need to get more Lokian wild wheat if you have a big pile already unless the current stuff is simply excellent.
3) Buy 5 personal harvesters of the type you need for the main resource. Buy 2 harvesters of different types as well (for example, 5 flora, 1 mineral, and 1 chemical when you want to go get beries). You should be able to purchase these for 500 credits or less on some planets on the bazaar as there are usually artisans looking to recoop grinding costs. This 7 harvesters is assuming that you have 2 lots tied up in a house and 1 with a factory. You could go more or less depending on lot requirements.
4) Go survey for the resource. Place all harvesters down, including the 2 mismatched ones. Set the mismatched ones to harvest whatever the high percentage resource is for the type (or in specific cases, set it to a specific resource if a high quality medical need is met, such as a really nice non-ferrous metal that is a lower, but still reasonable concentration).
5) Put enough maintenance and power to get you through the next time you will check the harvesters.
6) Log out at your harvesters whenever possible. This allows you to pop in and check on them in 15 minutes or less.
7) Sell some of the medical resource and most of the "other" resources to fund the operation. Alternatively, you can fund the operation through Stim-B sales once you are producing ALS's and ABEC's (ACDRMs are nice, but not required for a sellable Stim-B). Note that Stim-B sales will get you more money than raw resource sales, but also take significantly more time. That said, if you aren't master yet, handcrafting stim-Bs for sale is a nice money-making way to get crafting exp without completely grinding.
8) When the main resource you are harvesting shifts, destroy the harvesters (it's cheaper to buy new). Re-deed only when you have too much maintenance or power left on the harvester.
9) Repeat
This method takes 15 minutes on checkup days when the main resource doesn't shift and a couple of hours on days where it does. It will also generate resources at a cost of under 1 credit/resource. You will eventually get all the advanced resources you need, though it may take a few months to have everything in high quality. By dumping 5 harvesters at a time on a resource, you will get plenty of volume, allowing you to ignore a particular resource for a long time. By putting the mismatched harvesters at the same sight, you will pick up the other resources you need as well (generic reactive gas, non-ferrous metal, generic fiberplast, fungus, etc).
If you are well-financed, you can use harvesters larger than personal and re-deed. Costs more, but you also end up with more to sell.
Here is what I do...
1. I have novice artisan. I always get a survey mission before I go to another planet or city. Each survey mission pays 1500-1800 credits. This depends on your combat level and it seems the survey level to a lesser degree. I pick inert pertochemicals everytime. When I get to the city I survey for the chemicals. 9 times out of 10 there are chemicals in the city. That covers my expense for travel and a little more. If I am in a bind I run a number of survey missions. All you have to do is run 1024 meters from the mission terminal. Define a spot with a particular resource and keep going back to it always choosing the same resource. I bought my first laser carbine that way.
2. I do a couple faction missions everyday.
3. My real money maker is that I have 5 lots producing energy. I sell it at 1.5 cpu on the bazaar. I can't produce enough. Cost to produce 1000 units of energy is about 500 credits and I sell at 1500 credits. Thats means I get to take home 1000 credits for every 1000 units of energy I sell. I have just started to upgrade to solar gens and I will be making a lot more money. You can do this with resources if your economy is flooded with energy. Another advantage is that you produce your own energy for the other 4 or 5 harvesters mining wheat on lok or fiberplast on Tatoonie. I bought my chemical factory this way.

My question is, what is the best way to grind out level 4 crafting? Ive been working on this for days and Im not even 1/2 way through - my eyes are bleeding!
