Thread: how effective is master doctor/master CM/pistol spec?
I'm playing a much different character right now but haven't really made it into any of the elites yet, so I want to consider other choices now. I ony have very basic medic skills right now, but I do have 3 faction pets and it seems you could get the majority of your xp just healing them. Or what about master CM/master pistoleer?
I'm sure there are plenty of threads on this but I've never read this forum before so I'm still wading through it all. Any advice would be appreciated.
CM/Doc, CM/Pistoleer, and Doc/Pistoleer are all incredibly effective in both PvP and PvE. It all depends on what you want to do, or your particular play style.
Then you'll be very happy with mastering Doc/CM.
I love having every medic ability, and I can still give some decent support fire with a scout or FWG5, along with health shot 1, or suppression fire.
In PvP I use the poisons and buffs extensively, and just use the pistol with suppression fire to keep people from moving around as much.
You'll need:
Organic, inorganic, metal,non-ferrous metal, chemical, fiberplast, reactive gas, inert gas, fungi, seeds, avian meat, water, radioactive, andliquid petrochem fuel. I think that's most of them, off the top of my head. Some overlap obviously. And a lot you won't use often (flowers for cure poison packs, insect meat for disease packs, etc.).
It's definitely a lot of crafting. Where a pistoleer just buys a pistol from a weaponsmith, I feel that CM is more akin to CH, in that you have to do a lot of work for your offense, instead of having someone else do it for you (well, wait, CHs have BEs for that don't they? heh).
You probably won't be using poisons or enhances until you master CM/Doc anyway. So you won't be wearing through them as quickly as you would be if you needed the exp from them. I had my harvesters on resources for poisons up for 2 or 3 days, and I haven't used those up yet. You generally burn through the most organic/inorganic/fiberplast/water/metal just like all the other medics.
Can anyone that is currently a master CM and master doctor chime in? What did you do with your remaining free points? I would imagine that there really isn't time to be using a weapon, so going pistol spec (or whatever weapon) probably isn't needed. I don't need artisan as I have friends that can survey for me. So novice scout with exploration Iseems to make the most sense, allowing me to pull out pets in camps, harvest for organics, and run up hills much faster.
Also, what would be better for just healing myself? Right now I'm several boxes into rifleman and I'm considering going to master rifleman, plus either combat medic or doctor. I assume doctor would work best, allowing me to buff my health and action as well.
I've spent 15 (OW!) to keep novice artisan so I can pretend to survey and find places to plant harvesters, and 2 on intermediate pistol so I can have a fast weapon and a focused pool damage attack. Add in a poison of the same damage type, and I'm fairly effective in PvE combat. I have lots of trouble with money and resources though.
I've soloed all manner of hard red things, squills, bobcatts, dragonets, tusken snipers, dewback lairs, bull rontos...
Not to mention that my hunting groups practically worship my ranged heals. Docs can heal better on paper, but all the extra they can heal is overkill. You get Stim Ds at Master Medic, which are all you'll ever need in case you need a powerful heal, or to heal yourself, and then you kick back and toss ranged heals in fights. You can get Doctor buffs back at base and go hunting merrily on your own. As a Doc, you'll go berserk running between everyone to a 7m distance.
I've actually gone hunting on Lok where I stand in the middle of the group tossing ranged heals while I craft.
I've spent a lot of time agonizing over whether to be a Doctor, a CM, both in some combo... and I'm very happy with Combat Medic now. Just keep in mind that until you start hitting Advanced and Expert level skills you WILL SUCK. And you won't be able to use your stuff until Expert Combat Medic support. But it's worth it.
My intention is to do Master CM/Master Doc/Novice Artisan with 2 of the extra 3 points thrown into either pistol 1 or survey 1.
There shouldn't be much need for pistol skills at that level and I will need/survey to find some of the specialty ingredients for crafting.
Im not a a Master doc nor do i plan to be
I find that with doc all you need as a Cm is
1) wound treatment for revive and buffs
2) med knowledge 3 for access to enhance Health and Action Ds
3) Doc crafting for the best components
Right now my template is Master CM/Master surgeon/Master chemist/ Doc knowledge 3/novice pistoleer/novice artisan...
SO i can buff using Ds, revive, heal huge wounds, have all the best CM abilities and a bit of pistol...if u can get rid of novice artisan and still somehow survey id probably get the line of pistoleer that has stopping shot or maybe pistol whip
