Combat Medic Archive
Thread: PvP CM, weapon and race
hi all
i've been playin around wit the diff weapon classes. but i m tired of the downtime so im gonna get a medic proffession. and also get into PvPing.
i decided to get combat medic for the ranged heals, and poison.
but what weapon class (pistol/carbine? not sure bout rifle since it uses mind pool for speical and i cant heal that) and race would is best for the combat medic for PVP?!?!
thanks in advance

pistols are almost as accurate at rifles at 64ms...
fastest DPS of any weapon in game...
some of the most incredible specials in game..
pistol whip, stopping shot, flameshot, eyeshot, AOE ranged KD....
you name it pistols got it
Don't forget stacking with BH, given the reason the current template of the week is BH/Pistoleer
i think the changes to disarming shot making it not a KD and damaging the weapons not the player will be an interesting change...
bet u money when that goes...next flavor of the money is BH/carbineer....
then when KD timers goes it will be BH and rifleman...
jsut think headshots?! then u close and out comes the pistol and eyeshot?!
lol hahahaha and sure u can heal cuz ur not kded....but sorry ur mind pool has just been raped....
we sorta lost the original idea of the thread.
I'm a rifleman. I like it, though the HAM costs are too high, but its not very group friendly. Most of your specials are either in the mind pool or hitting random, so either you aren't using specials and autoattack to help kill the critter or competing to do alot of mind damage. Either way you'll feel cheated out of experience, though its nice to be able to sit about 45 m and be accurate and still be able to heal anyone in melee. Of course currently you can do the same thing with pistol be cause its near 100% accurate at any range.
Also you will have good heals, so being able to heal your specials is an advantage, which is a good reason to go with pistol and carbine.
I'm Zabrak, so i have 1000 mind, 500 focus, 900 willpower. This helps alot when using rifle, though I still have downtime and cannot wear a helment because the encumberance is too high. I have heard that Mon Cal make good medics but I didnt' want to be a fish person. Sorry, just personal preference.
Of course you don't have to look at this at the powergaming point of view. Pick what you want to play. If you want to be a trandoshan, then do it. I personally went rifle because i didn't want a wussy looking pistol as a weapon. It's more of a roleplaying thing than powergaming thing.
Play what you want, it will be fun if you want it to be
With the nerfing of KD, pistoleers, and T21 improvement the best end game elite class is Rifleman. This doesn't mean that you'll be having an easy time before you hit Master Rifle, however. And BHs are still top dog of PvP even with all these nerfs due to their insanespeed bonuses, knockdown shots, mind pool damage, and better weaponry.
But i agree with Myrick the double Mind pool cost is potentially a good reason not to pick rifle, although with a master T21 with master slice and powerups you don't really need to shoot more than once.
Ok, here's how I break it down:
Pistol is the BEST out of the 3 weapons, at specialist (in marksman). There's no debating it. You have enough accuracy to hit fairly well even while moving at 65m, and enough speed to bring a scout down to the speed cap. You have some good choices in weapons for both PvP and PvE, and roughly double the average DPS of the other two weapon types at specialist. Not to mention body shot 2, health shot 1, and supression fire are all great support attacks.
Now, taking an elite profession up to master is another story. The speed and accuracymods in pistoleer are useless for the most part; you're already going to hit 99% of the time, and your speed caps at 1 anyway. You're probably going to take pistoleer solely for the special attacks. That being said, they rock. Body shot 3/health shot 2 aren't huge improvements over their lower level versions, but it's something. Stopping shot is amazing from what I hear. Pistol whip will probably be nerfed, but it's currently a great attack to use. I remember gettingmore twice the weapon exp in Ft Tusken after getting that attack. And at master, disarming shot is an area KD... I don't think that needs explanation.
Rifleman is a solid tree. It's a mixed blessing. Stacking a mind bleed with a mind poison is unnecessary for the most part; the mind poison is good enough. You take a lot more damage from melee combatants, andyour rifle is largely ineffective at close ranges. You do, on the other hand, make much better use of the speed bonuses than the pistoleer does. A master rifleman can fire almost as fast as a pistoleer! You also have to worry about your mind usage of your shots, but at least your stats are focused for maximum mind/focus/willpower already.
You could use rifle at long ranges, and switch to poisons in mid and close ranges, since poisons havea max range of 40-50m. I think it's possibly doable; CMs shine in city PvP, rifleman shine in outdoor long range PvP. You'd cover your weaknesses. But make sure to bring a group. Neither CMs nor rifleman work well solo.
I don't know much about carbines myself, but a lot of my guildmates are switching to carbine from rifle. Could anyone give a more in-depth analysis of carbines?
"And you only hit for about 300 ish "
You have significant issues with your character or equipment. What are your rifle stats? What special are you using? I hit for more than that on my pistol char without specials.
The new max damage on the T21 is 375. It has AR 3, which is a 1.95 damage modifier vs AR 0. So a shot with no special has a ceiling of731 damage. Specials multiply damage all the way to 7.0 or higher, or 5k damage. Even if he achieves 1/2 of the these maximums he's still doing 2500 damage. As for weapon speed, a master rifle has +90 speed which will take any shot that is 10 seconds or shorter down to the cap of 1.0 seconds.
I'm not saying rifleman are overpowered or even the best, but 300 is not indicative of their damage output.
heh welcome to rifle and PvP
Since AP doesn't work in PvP right now and with the damage reduction of 75% you do almost no damage with an insaneHAM cost. If the AP 3 worked on the target the damage would have been around 600. Much better.
This is a pre patch T21 I was using sliced for damage. Max damage is 504.
I am by no means a master, I'm only about 2,1,2,2 But the damage dealt isn't going to change nor is the HAM cost.
