Thread: CM Ethics for guild neeed advice
Hi All,
I'm writting some rules of engagement for our guild (Mainly to protect reputation of the guild and attract players who make the game fun and not just a series of taking advantage of game issues)
I'm a Doc/CM, and have the ability to poison and heal. I don't typically poision mind in PVP as I feel that it get's missused by many CM's that get caught up in the revenge Tef issue, and feel anything Health and Action poison is OK.
Last week I was put down alot by a small group employing mainly Flamethrowers and eys shots. They didn't DB so there was alot of down time. The revenge Teff issue I feel is a legitimate reason to play differently and not DB, (Which is what they were doing) or you just get the same people in the same futile charges for hours so I had no problem with that. BUT I did feel that it was appropriate when fighting this group that I use my mind poisons. (Flamethrowers & eyeshot = ok to use mind poison)
I'm haveing a really hard time comming up with an honorable code of conduct for my guild mates around the CM's, BH, and commandos that have these powerful weapons, that when used correctly can make the game hysterically fun. But when used in a griefing manner, make it such a poor experience for the players we see on the boards saying Nerf Nerf Nerf.
I was thinking if in combat you have any of the elite abilities you should use them against enemies using elite abilities (Flame throwers, mind Poisons, eys shots, etc) But to try to give the little guys a break. (how we could all just wear our novice tags, and not know till we are on fire, ... (my delima)
Perhaps I should come up with examples of griefing behaviors and and discourage those, instead of being too specific.
Anyone else in a guild that may be able to share some of your experiences to help guide me.
stuck,
Doc Pepa
It's my med center I don't have eto wear pants if I dont want to!
well, you're gonna get lots of differing views on this most likely, but here's my own:
with regard to pvp in general, the state of the game with revenge TEFs being what they are almoast REQUIRES the use of wounds and no DBing tactics... downtime and wounds are the only ways to end fights at cities, plain and simple, therefore they are valid tactics to emply. some people will say to empoly them from the start, while others will say wait until such things are used against you first... its up to you to decide which way to go, but you cant argue the point that the only way to stop a city fight is to end it with wounds or a no db.
however, with regards to fights more than say 1.5-2km away from a clone facility, i'd say that wounding tactics and no-DB's should not be employed as the revenge TEF will most likely wear off by trying to organize attacks that far from a city. again, my oppinion.
for CM specific: First off, mind damage is viable and if you guys are not using it, you're gimping yourselves, cause others WILL use it against you. if your opponent doesnt bring a doctor with them, its their fault for dying to mind poisons. however, one thing you should have in your policies (cm specific) is that no member shal disease or poison a corpse before it manages to clone. doing so causes the person to wake in the clone with the poison/disease on them and is a very large bug that can be used for greifing.
its kind of annoying that downtime must be implimented with revenge TEFs the way they are, cause many see it as a greif tool, but alas, thats the state of the game right now. the day revenge TEF is eliminated will be wonderful and glorious for we will finally have objectives in pvp instead of clone wars....
If you wish to create an honor code, I'll just reference you to Samurai and the invention of guns...
Gimp yourself if you wish by deciding that that it's bad to make the guy who's trying to kill you unhappy. It will render your guild completely ineffective in combat andopen the door for lots of bad feelings.
When you impose a gimped honor code, you impose a feeling of "everyone cheats!" on your guildmates. They will feel that they are being griefed, when in actuality, they are tying their own hands and responsible for their own ineffectiveness or situation.
Use the weapons in your arsenal where appropriate, use them to the best tactical/strategic advantage, and DO NOT CHEAT. That is the the only code you should feel bound to.
General rule of thumb: If you're doing it to be an **edit**, you're probably wrong.
Honor is out the window. Flamethrowers and eyeshots and poisions, oh my! Rancors and herds of pets, yes, yes, yes!
You'd be hard searching to find an ideal, honorable, fight with the weapons and ablities that are out there. As a CM I'd say that you have to use poision..unless you've got some weapon trained up to compete with other classes and you have no problem with pets attacking you then maybe you could use some descresion. As for myself, with DR buffs (mine; self-buffing) and poision I can hold my own in combat and I don't just play a sucicide kamakazi with a nuclear DoT.
I do see a purpose for disease and that is in town fights. If you meet on the open range, km's from town, then a DB will do, but after experiencing hours of constant fighting due to cloning and revenge TEF I know that the only way to end an in town fight is by wounding your opponents into submission.
Like the dancers in Vegas will tell you, "If you got it, shake it."
Excellent Advice, and thank you all for being constructive in helping me.
Thanks all. I lean away from the mind poisons, as I want to have as much fun killing my enemy as they have with me. I need not make that imposition in my guild mates. Thanks for reminding me it not just about how I play! I was heading down a path to be a great disservice to my brothers in arms.
I think the don't be a "jerk" kind of player may be what we go with and just keep the common sense thing. Play unto others as you'd have them play to you. The gloves come off , when the gloves come off etc.
I am feeling much better thanks,
Doc Pepa
If I protect life? Yes. I am the last one to run and I heal my guildmates till I drop or get mind incapped.
If I follow Hippocrates oath guidelines? No. If someone doesnt highlight purple to me I am not going to heal her/him, regardless of tips offered, for a simple reason that any person who highlights blue can be potentially an Imperial spy
When it comes to pvp combat .. I show no mercy becouse none is given
Mind damage? Poisons? I have no scrouples whatsoever, besides that I am a rifleman

First off your dealing with self honor here. Its a shady thing. Not everyone has the same sence of Honor. So try not to force your view on others you may find yourself in a position where your Honor hinders what needs to be done. So just make a rule like this "do unto others what you would have them do unto you. " Yeah its from the bible but it holds true or you can give them the ol Karma thing. Essentially, when everyone figures out so and so is a griefer everyone is going to grief them so essentially it will come back to haunt them.
Just let your guildies know that there is a time and a place for wounding the snot out of people ( ie cities ) and a place not to grief ( ie outside of seeing range of a city ) but in the end its really up to you to decide how your going to deal with the situations. Some call for harsher measures than others. If you get rid of wound damageing every where you will find that you will greatly hinder your group when your in pvp. But if you say wound the most stats in every situation you will get a bad name. So you have to find a happy medium that will give the most benefits to the most amount of situations and also consider that either a lack of action or to much action will have dire consiquences. ( in the end i wouldnt listen to a leader that says tie one hand behind your back and fight cause in a real war those that make there own rules will win while those that follow the rules will set them selves up to surely fail )
