Thread: Being a Combat Medic...
Ok, I've been playing for two weeks now and actually enjoy this game a lot (dispite the apparent, rampant bugs). My first choice to play was a tailor until I found I would be grinding at craft stations my entire life. Now I decided to go the route as a medic and possibly a combat medic.
My questions are:
1) How viable are CM's to normal group settings; such as mission groups, theme parks, etc.
2) Are CM's fun to play in PvP groups in general? I want to know if they tend to get chewed up the moment they heal someone as anyone can see someone throwing a ranged stimpack.
3) Are CM's decent fighters also? I didn't want to go as a pure combat profession, since being anassisting class has also been my fav also.
I am a Master Combat Medic, and also one crafting skill box away from Master Doctor, and to be honest, I find Combat Medic skills to be a lot better in group situations.
Combat Medic Skills:
Ranged Heals for damage - very useful when the group is spread out and somebody is about to incap, a lot quicker to throw a ranged heal than get close enough for a standard medic/doctorstim heal.
Area Heals for damage - again, very useful when a few people in the group are taking heavy damage, just throw one area heal, watch them all feel the benefit, as opposed to running to each one in turn with a standard medic/doctor stim heal, and you will find you can heal a lot more often as well, due to less mind damage taken.
The only useI find really for Doctor skills in a group situation is if someone dies, thenI can revive them, or when in a camp,I can heal wounds, in actual combat, the combat medic skills are much more useful.
As far as getting agro for healing, no, I personally dont get any more agro than usual for throwing ranged/area stims around.
Combat wise, I use a carbine, due to not have enough skill points to fillRifle, Pistol or Carbinein marksman (I also have novice artisan so I can survey) and I find that using a Carbine is a lot better than Rifle or Pistol, due to speed and damage.
On the whole, for group settings, Combat Medic is a very good choice for profession.
id have to agree...a CM is a lot better at keeping a group alive during a fight and healing them at the end of one..Area heals can heal everyone at once...whereas a doc needs to do a single charge on each person.
you can also hang back farther since you got that added range on your stims...which for me has meant less aggro. dunno about others.
Docs tho are useful too...they can revive dead players and do some massive heals..and they can also enhance your stats before a fight.
pros and cons in everything ![]()
Honestly in PvE diseases are next to worthless, but while they stack with poisons there is no point in it. And in PvP they have limited uses but mainly just a griefing tool, unless it is a long battle which can happen.
Poisons are a mixed blessing.
-Against a mob in a group you will be lucky if it even starts dealing out damage before it is dead.
-And when fighting multiple mobs and you toss an AE poison well, you just pissed off everything that wasn't fighting something else and well hopefully there is a doctor to revive you... But on the plus side you can get that extra xp from poisoning dead mobs that haven't gone poof.
-Also the chance of your poison being resisted seems to be often, and the mind cost for attempting to apply it is high. (I have a focus of 500 and to apply poison/disease it costs me 101 mind, when I use spices to increase my focus to 1000 the cost is reduced to approx 52.) And this can add up quickly when you fail several times in a row.
-Diffrent poisons do not stack. (I have tested this and only the most recent one will take effect, but apparently you can cause bleeds to every pool.) If I am wrong here please let me know.
-In PvP mind poisons are the way to go, either health or action will just slow the person down. But in PvE use the poison for whatever pool your weapon deals damage in. Which I believe answers your question, you will have to pick up a combat class as well. I recommend pistols since they don't stop you when you fire (You will get enough of that when using any ranged stim or poison/disease).
Fun to play in PvP, well yes, but the tactic that kept me alive the most is run up within 40m of the target, toss poison and then use the tactics of the combat class you have. I do alot of running around and I heal myself, while trying to get a few good shots in.
But that is just how I play, you may just want to be a supporting CM, using more ranged and AE stims and never using any of the poisons. I have met a few like that, but I prefer to offense approach. And while some of the above may sound whiney, all in all I love me combat medic.

I want to be a Master Combat Medic / Master Doc someday,
from my calculations of points its not possible. You need to be a Master Medic (77) and Master Marksman (77) to be a Master Combat Medic (66), right? thats (217)....
it takes (63) to add Master Doc to that ....that would be 270!
I am wrong here?
I have read at least 2 ppl saying they know/are Master Combat Medic/Docs....

"I want the Truth!...." "...you can't handle the Truth!"
Being that I had a huge fan base in the kadaraa cantina with the entertainers (RPing a bouncer) I became especially popular with the ladies when I started complimenting thier light shows with my blue light grenades... someone on another post stated that doctors get all the chicks? I have 3 women(may be men but who cares) harvesting rescources for my advanced components...
I spend alot of time soloing out in the field doing random hunts from say deeja peak to moenia on foot (lots of fun)... I am about half way to pistoleer's stopping shot so Im a force to be reckoned with...
In PVP (I only challenge jerks that harrass my friends) I just put on the follow key and bleed them... in follow mode I can poison (if it sticks)...
outside from some of the annoyances of certain things in this class it is probably the more challenging and entertaining classes... dont expect to be UBER godman you will be a force, but a person of any upper tiered combat class will know how to beat you... (but you arent gonna die in one fail swoop).

they do, i made a macro, i'll toss a mind aoe, then a health aoe, both bars will go down. diseases will also stack fyi. not the same type of disease of course, different ones will stack though.
