Thread: Could I get some opinions on CM for a Player with Time Constraints?

Hello Everyone,

I'm currently working my way up towards Master Rifleman/Master CM but after reading some of the posts I'm worried that I may be heading in the wrong direction so to speak. I've got about 2 hours a night on average to play and I don't want to have to spend all my time hunting components. I saw one post where someone mentioned they had been looking for over a week and had not found a necessary resource. Is this just the way it is? I think the class sounds very interesting but I would really like some firsthand knowledge on what it takes to be successful. Please give me your honest opinion.

Thanks!

i spend about 2 hours per night just taking care of my harvesters, getting the money to maintain them, shifting them to get them on the proper spots after resources shifts etc.

unless you have a solid source of money and can afford (and for that issue find someone who sells) to buy poisons, diseases, ranged and area stims, you are probably better of staying at Master Medic.

run far away if you only have 2 hours per night. you CANNOT possibly hope to play this class or any other crafting class for that matter if you have only 2 hours per night. the gathering of resources is impossible under those time constraints.

CM is a really fun class to play if you have the time for it, but 2 hours per night wont cut it. try a combat profession.

Thanks to both of you... I'm a bit disappointed now but I do appreciate the honesty. Maybe I will look into doctor because I do enjoy keeping others alive and the combat professions begin to bore me.

The previous posters forget that this is a social game.Never underestimate the power of money/friendship.

First off, determine why you want to be a Combat Medic. If it's to heal large groups of people, thenyour time constraint doesn't really matter. YouWILL meet large numbers of people. Some of those people will be more than willing to sell/trade/give youthe necessary resources (and/or the final product). You don't have to gather all of those resources yourself (in-game emailswill beyour best friend).

If you want to be a Combat medic just to stack poisons with bleeds, you might just want to stay a master medic (or go doctor) and focus on a combat profession. You'll get more bang for your buck that way.

I don't care so much about the poisons/disease at this point. I interested mainly in keeping myself and other players alive while the guns do the work. I'll keep giving this some thought I guess.

Start a resource ring with other casual medics. Make each medic responsible for a single resource (i.e. Lokian wild wheat or Tatooinian Fiberplast or Fungus). Trade with each other on a weekly basis to gain the other components. Running 5 harvesters in a single spot is much less time consuming than running harvesters on 3 planets simultaneously.

Factories are still a problem, but you can handle them. Place one down only when you need to do factory compoent runs. If you can log on twice a day (in the morning before work, and after work, for example), do 2 runs a day. Stockpile components (particularly those that you need identical factory components). Pick up the factory when you have a decent stockpile so you don't feel pressured to produce all the time. When you do place the factory down, put it down where your harvesters are. They're on Dantooine? So what? Nothing wrong with a factory on Dantooine.

Hand craft stuff that you don't need the factory for. Get a medical droid (with a crafting station) so you can craft in the field.

You *should* be able to get factory maintenance down to 20 minutes a day on days when you are doing factory work. Harvester maintenance is another 30 minutes a day if you only have 1 location.

The key to getting resources cheap without having to get all of them yourself is to trade with other medics. They don't want to have to get everything themselves either.

Happy,

That's great advice! I really appreciate the well thought out response. That plan would work for Doctor or CM so now I just need to see which proff fits my playstyle more closely.

I really appreciate the help everyone!

well, if you're just going for the ranged heals, that doesnt require tooo much in the way of resource gathering... these guys are right, if you can have some friends to help you out, its all good, but if you want to solo it, i'd be wary.

another thing is that if u have 2 hrs to play only...

how much of that time i spend in grp and how much is spent solo...

if u find that u are soloing much more than grping, CM is definately not the way to go...

outside of disease and poisons which are pretty weak in pve, the other skills a CM gets ranged heals and AOE heals is really meant for grps....

It's possible to be a CM and only play two hours a night. Some nights I Play 2 hours, some I don't play at all. Do what others have suggested and make friends with people. Never underestimate the power of being social. You can save time by sharing waypoints to the hot resources, training and even trading resources.

I usually tend harvesters every other night and on the off nights, I sell stims and go about teaming to get even more money. You should also watch www.swgcraft.com for resource shifts and pay attention to the boards. They get posted here sometimes. This will give you a clue if you need to visit your harvesters to change resources/pick them up and what not.

Thanks once again for all the great suggestions. I had never heard of swgcraft.com but I will definitely give it a shot. To be honest I don't find myself grouping all that much but it's not because I don't want to. It's more because I can't seem to meet anyone to group with. I was actually hoping that by being a CM more people would want to take me along on their hunts. We'll see I guess. It seems like the people playing medic type professions are by and large a great group of people and I'll definitely be joining your ranks in one form or another. If any of you play on Kauri and want to hunt or give a fledgling "healer" some tips please look me up! My name is Skorp.
